Larva

Evolving Zerg

The Larva is the beginning of all Zerg lifeforms. By gaining new biomass (=XP), the Larva can morph into more advanced units. Thanks to its many possible forms, the Larva is an incredibly versatile hero.

The Larva has about the same amount of health as Abathur has, and regenerates life faster than most heroes.

Combat Trait

1
Evolution
By choosing a talent, you will evolve into a new form. Evolving grants you a new trait. Your new form is built upon your old, meaning that you will keep all Passive components of your previous traits. However, you will lose your previous trait's Active components.

Heroic talents remove all previous traits' Passive components.

Primary Abilities

1
Zerg Cocoon
After dying, you will need to select a location to place the Cocoon from which you will respawn. Cocoons can be placed in the vision range of allies. If the Cocoon is destroyed while the gestation is mid-way, your respawn time is reset and you will need to choose a new location for the Cocoon.
2
Rapid Regeneration
Cooldown: 12 seconds

Activate to regenerate 50% of your Health over 4 seconds.
3
Burrow
Burrow underground, becoming Invulnerable and entering Stealth. You can't move, attack or use other abilities while Burrowed. Lasts indefinitely until cancelled by activating this ability again.

Heroic Abilities

1
Acid Pool
Cooldown: 15 seconds

Create a large pool of acid that slows down enemies in it by 20% and deals damage every second.
2
Frenzy
Cooldown: 30 seconds

Become Unstoppable and increase your Basic Attack damage by 50% and Movement Speed by 25% for 5 seconds.
3
Corrosive Bile
Cooldown: 20 seconds

Launch a glob of bile that lands after 2 seconds, dealing massive damage in an area and reducing the Armor of hit foes by 25%, causing them to take 25% more damage.
4
Abduct
Cooldown: 50 seconds

Pull an enemy Hero next to you and root them for 5 seconds. You can attack the Hero during this time, but if you use abilities or move, the Hero is released.

Ultimate evolution for Swarm Queen's evolutions
Ultimate evolution for Broodmother and Broodlord

Notes

  • I've left out the precise numbers, balance is not my thing.
  • Some of these evolutions aren't really lore-accurate: for example, in lore Hydralisks and Mutalisks can't evolve from Zerglings and aren't melee units. I based the Hydralisk on the unit in Starcraft: Ghost. It's not canon, but that was the only way I could fit the Hydralisk into this evolution tree without making the tree way too big.
  • There are also a couple of evolutions I just couldn't figure out, so any ideas are welcome.
  • If people show interest in this concept, I might do the remaining 3 talent tiers as well, but for now I've just done the first 4 as they are the most interesting.
