Intro Top

I'm 'kimjongboom'. Playing Hots since the alpha. Before that, I played a lot of WC3+TFT and the first DOTA-Mod. After 2 years and 3k+ games, finally Genji came out and I loved the all-around toolkit.

Genji is a high-mobile assassin, with a lot of defensive and offensive abilitys. You can easy distinguish a good Genji from a bad one. When to deflect? When to dash in or out? When do I save my ability for a better situation?

His strength is to kill isolated targets and/or initiate fights with X-Strike and dash quickly out. He can flank enemys (like in Overwatch) and prepare kills.
But often you tower-dive low enemys and finish them in their own base. Using some tower-damage to deflect it and get the kill.

"I need healing" Top

I. 2v1 against enemy Genji and Auriel

II. Diving into tower of doom!

III. Slaying the enemys, saving our Azmodan and killing Tassadar in his own base. I definitely need healing after that!

Abilitys Top

(Active trait) Cyber Agility: You can jump over walls. Realy good for escaping! I never use it to initiate fights. But it depends on your playstyle.

(Q) Shuriken: Skillshot. Genji throws three shuriken. The more projectiles hit the enemy, the more damage will be done. So at close range you doing potentially more damage. Can be used while moving.

(W) Deflect: Genji is not really "deflecting" enemy abilitys, like in Overwatch. He's blocking all damage for 1.25s and throwing "Kunais" back at the next enemy. Very fast attacks like Tracer's AA or Li Ming's Beam are perfect. Both heroes are almost dead after that. Pro tip: at Towers Of Doom, I use deflect at the "death zone" on fleeing enemys.

(E) Swift Strike: Your kill-steal ability. It can be used through walls or buildings. Perfect for tower-dive some low enemys!

(R1) Dragonblade: Perfect for squishy targets and after they blow their cooldowns out. Free kill!

(R2) X-Strike: Great synergy with roots or long stuns. But also an another escape option!

T1 Top

Swift as the Wind: Depends on your playstyle.
Agile Dismount: I'm not a big fan of this one. The cooldown is only reduced, if you're jumping right from your mount. As I said before, I never initiate with this ability.
Pathfinder: My favourite talent in this tier. That extra speed after walljump saved my cyber-*** a lot!

T4 Top

Shuriken Mastery: A must have. You got more sustain DPS and the reset after jumping secures you kills!
Strike At The Heart: Meh. Sounds good, but low damage output.
Dragon Claw: An alternative, but it depends on your deflected damage. So, no good sustain. But great to clear waves.

T7 Top

Augmented Guard: Cool, if your enemy got no great AA. I love shields.
Perfect Defense: Depends on your playstyle. Maybe for a deflect-based build.
Cyber Shield: I tried this and it didn't worked for me. I'm using 'jump' to escape and never took an advantage of this talent.
Dodge: Perfect against AA! Nothing more to say.

T10 (Ultimate) Top

Dragonblade: Ryūjin no ken wo kurae!
X-Strike: Like said before. Combo with roots and/or long stuns. Grav-Surge works fine too! Also good for escaping or dodge damage.

T13 Top

Shingan: Good choice, if your aim ist perfect or you're hitting against big targets. Like Azmodan, Chen, Cho'Gall.
Flow Like Water: Interesting choice for a Swift-Strike build. Depends on your playstyle.
Double Jump: I take this talent all the time. I need it for more resets on my shuriken (T4 Quest!) and for escaping.

T16 Top

Reflect: 33% more damage on Tracer's face!
Final Cut: Meh. Interesting for a Swift-Strike build, but not my playstyle.
Steady Blade: Combined with 'Flow Like Water', it could be really strong. But I prefer reflect.

T20 Top

The Dragon Becomes Me: I choose it, if the enemy got more tanky heroes or heavy heal.
Living Weapon: If you can hit 5 enemys, you get an instant reset of this ability. But it's not worth taking it, while 'Sharpened Stars' doing more damage overall.
Sharpened Stars: Great to clear waves fast or get the enemys low in teamfights.
Zanshin: There are rare situations you can hit 2+ heroes, without get killed afterwards. But it depends on your playstyle.

I hope this guide helped you to understand our little 'Cyber Ninja'. With his mobility tools, you can play more offensive and just escape in the right moment. You can scout the enemy, harassing targets and finish them. Most of the time, you will be that guys, who kills low enemys in their own base - be prepared to swim in salty tears.

Arigatō yo!
