Quick explanation on team fights Top

This is my first attempt at creating a guide. For now I am going to leave it simple and sweet.

** Work in progress, will add more in depth explanations. Counters, and breakdown of abilities and other variations of talent builds. 5/4/2016

The build I provided is basically what you want to go for, with minor exceptions for a few talents. In order to achieve maximum efficiency with this build you want to be moving constantly, get in the habit of popping onto your mount immediately after all creeps are cleared or the engagement is over. You want to keep your eyes on the mini-map constantly and either soak lanes, harass other specialists, or help your team in fights by flanking key targets with your jail / ulti.

There is one trick I've learned for team fights that not many realize, and that is maintaining tempo. If you are new to MOBA's and do not know what tempo is, it is simply the momentum of a fight. By auto attacking into a fight after you lock down certain key targets with your jail you easily wipe out all creeps in the middle of the fight. This obviously only applies to fights that take place in the middle of a creep wave, and while it might not seem that useful you need to understand the utility here. Xul can wipe out creep waves effortlessly, and create skeletons from slain creeps. Once you have your tier 5 talent, corpse explosion, things will begin to shake up nicely. You'll be placing 5 or so skeletons smack dab in the middle of a fight, and they will explode for a nice chunk of damage. With your bone armor explosion this will spread the fight out nicely and allow your team to target enemy supports or squish assassins.

^^ Remember to immediately lock down key targets with your jail, then auto attack into the middle of a fight with cursed strike active. After you notice a few skeletons appear jump onto the closest available target. You are a utility fighter in team fights and can easily turn an engagement in your favor.

Roaming Siege Top

I will be adding more information later, but for now I just want to briefly cover the main gist of this build. It is absolutely necessary that you constantly be on the move, Xul has the single best wave clear potential in the game. If you place your scythe correctly and follow up with cursed strike, you can clear a wave of creeps in seconds. Then pop on your mount and move to another lane, the reason for this is that you want to use your skeletons to push each lane as much as possible.

In my opinion Xul should not stay in any one lane indefinitely, save that strat for Sylvanus. You want to be on the move controlling the map and contributing much needed experience for your team. If you catch on to this playstyle you should notice that you'll be number 1 in experience EVERY match.

Don't bother with camps, your skeletons will help push a lane nicely. Only stop for a camp if you have a teammate who can help you clear it fast, chances are an enemy will come by and wipe out the camp before it gets any use. What you're doing with this roaming skeleton push is maintaining tempo of the map by forcing the enemy to move around constantly, one step behind you, in order to counter your skeleton push.

Quick note on lvl 20 talent Top

I'm just going to briefly mention the versatility of Xul's talent build. Each talent I selected in the build above is talents that compliment my own playstyle, you may pick and choose as you see fit. Keep in mind if you choose to buff your scythe you may want to consider going the complete build for that playstyle, utilizing slow down utility with bone armor and long range scythe.

This build focuses on leaving your skeletons in lane while you constantly move around and control the map.

The ultimate talent however is going to usually be entirely up to your situation. If you notice your teammates are dying in fights, you may want to grab the 20 version of your ultimate. I generally use my ulti in order to kill specialists who try to push a lane by locking them down with jail, placing the ulti behind them, securing my scythe placement and then diving in head first. But if team fights are frequent and your teammates are dying, you definitely want to upgrade the ulti and focus on helping your team.

Grab the scythe upgrade that reduces enemy healing if they have a moralis or li li.

grab bone spear if your push is not being countered. use it to finish off the second wave of creeps before you leave lane, or just harass with it.

and I only get poison nova on certain maps or when team fights are just the name of the game. If I have it and I see that it's actually getting it's use, I'll usually upgrade it at 20.

Xul 1v1 with ulti Top

Let me just say that Xul can be played like an assassin, though I don't focus on this play style. Here's what I mean, my objective is to control the map. If I notice some pesky specialist clearly has it in their mind to push that top lane constantly, I'll make a note of reminding them whose boss.

Here's the order of abilities to kill.

Run in, cast jailer. Immediately get your mages up behind the enemy. Now place your scythe accurately behind your prey. Once scythe is cast dive in with cursed strikes up, the enemy will be dead if you timed all this right. It's almost a guarantee assuming they don't have good counter abilities or escape / invis.

You'll want to specificially focus this kill style on specialists or assassins who try to push a lane. For some reason it will always be ONE lane that they try to push in a last ditch effort to get to your core. Pull this combo off a few times and they should give it up.

At this point you've pretty much guaranteed your team victory, sit back and watch the finale unfold as you direct your team onward to victory.

Congrats!

** I wrote this very quickly and do plan to expand upon pretty much every chapter. Please don't judge this playstyle until you try it, or at least take it with an open mind. There are obviously limitless counters to every hero / strategy in the game. I'm not saying this is a perfect build but it has been very effective for me. Thank you! **
