This guide is for beginner junglers. I will explain why Sonya works well for players getting started in the jungle, or even for new Heroes of the Storm players.

Pros:

  • Great sustain in the jungle.
  • Easy to move around the map using and
  • Good damage and some crowd control in fights.

Cons:

  • A well timed stun or knockback from an enemy will cancel your and put it on cooldown preventing your damage/sustain in a team fight.
  • If the enemy team does not have a jungler, you will have a teammate in a 1v2 scenario.

The Build / Talents Top

This allows you to start jungling early by giving you sustain right off the bat. Keeping your HP up while in the jungle is important for avoiding counter-jungling and invades, as well as giving you the ability to have a presence in your lanes at any time without the fear of being killed.

Superiority will further the effects of by lowering the damage done to you by the neutral camps. It's here that if your team has an advantage you can two or three man bosses on the map, giving you a huge boost in map pressure and objective control.

Top

Plain and simple this allows you to clear camps faster.

Top

As an alternative to if you find yourself wanting to have more of a presence in lanes trying to get kills or push forward, will allow you to get more damage down as you come into lane.

Top

Option one for your heroic ability. Low cooldown and can be a huge factor in team fights, gathering major objectives, or killing boss camps.

Top

Option two for your heroic ability. Gives you much more presence on the map, and can make ganking lanes much easier. Use to hop over walls and land your .

Top

Once again, adding sustain for clearing camps and at this point in the game also for team fighting/major objective control. The addition of removing movement impairing effects comes in handy against heroes who will look to stun or slow you as you escape.

Top

Again a simple one. All the benefits you've added in to now last longer.

In some situations, you may prioritize ganks at this point of the game. If so, will help to split up the enemy team and secure kills for your team.

Let's get to business! Top

Sonya is a great hero for players looking to get started in the jungle, or prioritize taking neutral camps. Because of her diversity she is able to deal damage, initiate fights, crowd control, as well as sustain her health and move quickly around the map.

Typically to start the game I would recommend getting in lane and trying to create an advantage early. Use your to gain fury right away, and then use your to start a push in at least one lane. It's possible to roam from one lane to another and doing this twice to push two lanes towards your opponents, but be careful and make sure you have support from your team to keep you safe early.

At the 2:00 mark is where you want to start jungling. I would start at a camp that can push into your disadvantaged lane. If the enemy team does not have a jungler, you will have a lane where one team mate is against two enemies. Put mercenaries in this lane first, as it will give your team mate a break and keep things even.

Next, you want to quickly clear all the mercanaries on your side of the map. Use your to initiate camps and quickly max , then use your to do damage while sustaining your health. This will allow you to safely clear your jungle.

If you have no mercenaries left to clear on your side, head to a lane. Personal preference will dictate which lane you want to visit to some extent, but keep in mind that the purpose of ganking is to put map control in your favor.

Always keep an eye on the timers for the jungle camps, as that is where your team support comes from.

Finally, the objective of the game is to destroy the opponents core. This sounds like a no-brainer, and hopefully that's the case. However, it's important to understand the balance between clearing the jungle, ganking, and destroying structures. Structures are the key to victory, so always keep in mind that everything you do to gain advantages for your team should be leading towards the destruction of enemy structures.

Hopefully this guide helps get you started. I would love feedback and opinions as this is the first time I've written a guide to go along with a build in any game I've played.

Important Summary: Top

Some things to remember while playing as a jungler:
  • Keep timers on all jungle mobs.
  • Focus on major objectives. (i.e. the Temples on Sky Temple, or turning in Dubloons on Blackheart's Bay)
  • Gank lanes when you've cleared jungle mobs.

Both of these builds work very similarly, however build number one focuses more on control of jungle and taking down structures while build number two focuses more on killing enemy heroes.
