About me: Top

Hi there, Wild Raccoon speaking, member of Comunidad Genesis Heroes of the Storm Squad, EU Server. I am specialized in assassins, both ranged or melee and burst or sustain damage, being Falstad one of my favourite heroes due to his perfect merge of mobility and high bursting damage. I am currently ranked in 3100 mmr playing mostly assassins (almost 90% of the games I have played). So here it is my Falstad Guide, I hope you all enjoy it and find it usefull.

Introduction: Top

Falstad Wildhammer, also known as Falstad Dragonreaver, is the High Thane of the Wildhammer Clan and brother of the gryphon rider Kurdran Wildhammer. He rules the Wildhammer clan from Aerie Peak in the Hinterlands. In Heroes of the Storm, he is a Burst Assassing whoose job is simple: kill as fast as possible, as many enemies as possible without taking lethal damage. Lets see pros and cons:

Pros

- Extraordinary ammount of AoE damage.

- Really nice mobility due to his Tailwind+ Barrel Roll+ Flight

- Fair jungler if considered.

- One of the safer picks in this game.

Cons

- Same tankiness as a little kid.

- Can easily run out of mana if you spam like crazy.

- High cooldowns. That is why we choose as tier 5 talent.

- Two of his three damage abilities are skillshot based. This mean you can miss them.

Ability Overview: Top

Trait: Tailwind - Gain 20% increased Movement Speed after not taking damage for 6 seconds. As we said before, this passive allows Falstad to stay safer in the game. Remember Falstad has no mount properly saying, so this helps to move faster through the map for objectives or gank enemies.

Q: Hammerang - Throw out a Hammer that returns to you, dealing 290 (62 + 12 per level) damage and slowing enemies by 25% for 2 seconds. Your bread and butter skill damage. Just be careful not to miss this skillshot. Hammerang allows Falstad both deal damage or escape from a risky situation due to the 20% slow to enemies. Once you receive BOOMerang talent, the damage increase and depush capacity is just insane.

W: Thunderstorm - Passively deals 240 (50 + 10 per level) damage to a random nearby enemy every 8 seconds.Activate Thunderstorm to deal 240 (50 + 10 per level) damage to up to 4 nearby enemies. Hitting the same enemy multiple times causes the damage to be reduced by 25% each hit. A decent damage skill. Passively helps just with a creepwave, but I think the most OP thing is that you can get enemies down of his mount just for be there. Using it deals really decent damage to targets, filling the lack of damage when you just spend your Hammerang.

E: Barrel Roll - Dashes forward and grants a 375 (90 + 15 per level) point Shield for 2 seconds.Your unique survival tool in TeamFights. This skill must be used VERY CAREFULY. A bad use can put you one step closer to an instantly death. Nevertheless, this skill can be used as a gap-closer and secure a kill, positioning yourself in a right position to fight safer, or as a escape tool, dashing away from risky situations even passing through thick walls. A good Falstad is a Falstad who know how to use his dash properly in every moment.

R: Shock and Awe - After a short delay, deal 900 (311 + 31 per level) damage to enemies within a long line. The Heroic Ability we are going to choose 100% of the times. A super ultra mega death thunder that will turn your enemies in less than dust in a line. This heroic is just amazing and insane, the point here is just not miss it, otherwise your team will loose the 75% of the damage in teamfight. A good Falstads ultimate just make your enemies fight with their 25% HP, meanwhile the squishiest ones will be probably dead.

Talent overview and discussion: Top

Level 1
Bribe is the best option on Falstad. The rest of talents are not bad, but bribe is just OP. You can sololane tanking bribe charges and then fly (Z) to your easy mercenary camp (or theirs if you are 100% sure you wont be caught) and do it instantly, as well as help your team to capture an early hard camp.
Level 4
Gathering Power is your snowball talent. The more kills you get, the more damage you deal with all your skills. Simply. Just take care, your damage will drastically decrease after you die.

Level 7
Although First Aid is not a bad decision, I prefer to trust my positioning and my team peel for keep me alive and choose BOOMerang for a insane icrease AoE damage. That allows Falstad to oneshoot enemies easier as well as depush a creepwave faster.

Level 10
No comments here. Aerial Blitzkrieg can be usefull in a small map as Haunted Mines and if your are free to cast it, but I definitely dont recommend it, you must be in a melee distance to stun and damage enemies and we do not want this. We just want Falstad to be as far as possible from enemies and free to destroy all their team, so shock and awe is your best option.

Level 13
As I said in Cons, Falstad has too damn high Cooldowns, so a tool that allow us to spam twice your skills but your ultimate is hugely welcome. Nevertheless, your Barrel Roll has 16 seconds cooldown, that means you can Hammerang+ Thunderstorm+ Rewind and Hammerang+ Thunderstorm again, but you have to wait 6 seconds after using Rewind to dash away again. Be careful with the timers.

Level 16
Is truth that Stoneskin allows you staying alive for more time, but as I said before, trust a little in your team and in yourself as a good positioner. A talent that increase your ability power by 25%? YES. That means moooooooooore damage, and Falstad loves the damages. Just keep and eye on your mana pool, it will dastically decrease after use your whole death combo ( Rewind included).

Level 20
More super ultra mega death heroic ability with amazing increase of damage and a huge range, of course yes!. Although, I must say if their team is full of sneaky oneshooters assassins such as , you can feel free to pick Bolt of the Storm.

Gameplay: Top

Early game
Strategies vary in each map, but playing as Falstad you may normally focus on stay in a lane (most of the time alone) grabing Bribe charges. Try to harass your enemies if possible without taking damage. Trades are very important in MOBAS, if you can force your enemie to go back to fountain or base, you can make their turrets run out of ammo and your team will gain easily more experience for the team. Once you got at least one Bribe charge (preferably two) you can go to your easy mercenary camps and get it. Try to get their easy camp if you are in a good position to do it safe, dont put yourself in a risky situation when there is no need to. If you are 100% sure you can kill your lane opponent go for him/her, just keep in mind it can be a bait trap. Otherwise try only kills when your teammates gank your lane.

Mid game
I consider Mid game once you get your Heroic Ability. Here is where Falstad starts to shine. Abuse your killing potencial now you have your ultimate and use your amazing mobility Flight to turn an equal 3v3 fight into a favorable 4v3 fight. Taking into account the fact than the damage Falstad can offer is enough to kill anyone, due to the tanks are not tanks enought yet in this phase. Your harvest heroes has started.

Late game
This is when you will see too damn high numbers of damage you can deal in AoE, but the most risky phase for you. Here dead timers are annoyingly endless, and remember you are as tank as butter. Once again, positioning right is your best tool to keep shining in this phase. A good performance in a teamfight can be crucial. Try to quite in you are being permafocused. That will allow your team to deal free damage as long as you keep alive. Nevertheless, if you are free to deal damage, go ahead. Try to focus the squishiest and blow them away in just a second. Here is a tip if you are finding troubles to make free damage: Try to wait a couple of seconds after the fight start. That will probably force enemies cooldowns and your way to make damage and keep alive will be more passable.

Remember the momentous thing here is not to die, otherwise your team will be force to handle a 4v5 situation during 1 minute without you and your damage. Dont let the greed take possession of your body. Keep your mind cold.

Conclusion: Top

Here it is the final of this guide. I want to make sure you understand this is the best way to play Falstad under my point of view. For sure other people has their personal guides and the are as valid as any guide.

If you are looking for some fun and a bursting way of play Falstad, my piece of advide is that you should give this guide a try. All coments are opionions are hugely welcome.

Thanks a lot for reading and see you all in The Nexus!
