Lorewalker Cho

Quest Giver

Lorewalker Cho is the leader of the pandaren Lorewalkers. His kindly demeanor, boundless curiosity and saint-like patience has made him something of an informal ambassador of Pandaren culture to the Horde and Alliance. Lorewalker Cho accompanies the players on numerous adventures throughout Pandaria, usually providing lore and background to current situations.

Lorewalker Cho is a melee Specialist that is able to buff his allies through Quests. Every talent level (except level 10) he is able to select one of two Quests in addition to a regular talent. Once Lorewalker Cho has completed his simplified version of this Quest it becomes unlocked, allowing allied heroes to click him and accept the Quest for themselves. Once they have completed the requirements they can return to Lorewalker Cho to turn it in and receive a permanent bonus. Allies can be on multiple Quests at a time.

Above: Thrall approaches Lorewalker Cho to turn in a quest.

Lorewalker Cho cannot use mounts. This is intended to avoid him moving around the map too easily and making the turn-in portion of questing trivial. To offset this his trait, Lorewalker's Quest, permanently increases his movement speed by 1% for each Quest he and his allies complete. Lorewalker Cho must complete a version of each Quest that is easier than the full Quest before it unlocks for his allies. This is to allow the Lorewalker Cho player to enjoy the experience of Quests instead of just bringing it into the game for others.

Above: Thrall's Quest Log. This Quest Log appears in the upper right corner of the player's screen, and can be minimized at any time.

The rewards from most Quests are, for balance reasons, weaker versions of 'generic talents' like Regeneration Master, Mercenary Lord, Follow Through, etc. Their power lies in the fact that they are small improvements that can be earned by everyone on Lorewalker Cho's team.

As far as gameplay goes, Lorewalker Cho lands somewhere between Specialist and Support. He is able to push lanes well by converting enemy minions to his team, but his damage output isn't especially impressive. The Quest mechanic allows him to provide a more passive boost to everything his team does. Most importantly however is his ability to use enemy's actions against them. Lorewalker Cho has seen it all before, and a skilled Lorewalker Cho player would be able to read his enemies like a book.

Combat Trait

1
Lorewalker's Quest
Lorewalker Cho's movement speed increases by 1% each time he or an allied hero completes a Quest.

Each talent level Lorewalker Cho is able to pick one of two Quests in addition to a regular talent.

Primary Abilities

1
Anecdote
(Skillshot) Shoot out a short-ranged narrow wave of energy that damages enemies and marks enemy heroes it hits for 2 seconds. 2 charges. 8 second recharge.

Enemy heroes that cast an ability while marked with Anecdote take 10% increased damage from Lorewalker Cho and his allies for 2 seconds.
2
Storytime
Tell a tale to nearby enemies, surrounding yourself in a small aura for 5 seconds. 20 second cooldown.

Enemy minions and mercenaries that are affected by this aura for 3 seconds are converted to your team.

Enemy heroes that are affected by Storytime for 3 seconds are stunned for 1 second.
3
Symbolism
Make a copy of the target hero at their current location that will remain in place for 3 seconds. 16 second cooldown. Symbolism copies spawn with full health and have maximum health equal to the hero they were spawned from.

Copies of allied heroes absorb 25% of all damage dealt to the real hero.

Copies of enemies direct 25% of all damage dealt to the copy back to the real hero.

Heroic Abilities

1
Foreshadow
Root yourself in place and surround yourself with a large aura for 6 seconds. While Foreshadow is active Lorewalker Cho does not have access to his other abilities. 60 second cooldown.

During Foreshadow Lorewalker Cho can activate Q,W,E,R to lock out the corresponding ability for all enemies within the aura for 2 seconds. Enemies that attempt to use a locked out ability take damage.

There is a global cooldown of 0.5 seconds so the Lorewalker Cho player cannot simply press every ability rapidly. Each ability slot can only be locked out once per Foreshadow.
2
Poetic Justice
Mark a target allied hero with Poetic Justice for 3 seconds. 40 second cooldown.

While marked, any enemy ability or basic attack used against this ally will instead reflect back to its caster.

Special Mount

1
Leisurely Pace
Lorewalker Cho cannot use mounts.

Quests and Talents

Lorewalker Cho selects one Quest and one talent per tier.

Level 1:

The Healing Of Shen-zin Su: Collect 5 Regeneration Globes.

Damn. Now THIS is a cool concept for a hero. Rewards you for predicting the opponent and gives permament buffs to teammates provided they complete a small 'quest'.

Inspired by legends might be a bit too strong for such an early game talent however.

Thanks! Coming up with the rewards for quests was really hard, and I'm not sure Blizzard would go the same route if they ever added him to the game. I actually finished this concept about a month or so before the idea of Quest talents was added to the actual game, and their addition might have guaranteed that something like this never does appear in HotS.

Thanks! I really appreciate that; I have a lot of fun making these. Some of them are more feasible than others, but I always try to make them interesting at the very least.
