Intro Top

Hello!

This is my very first guide and I will try my best here.

Chen is great hero. His talents allow him to choose from many styles.
My personal favourite is utilize his shield and fire breath.

PROS
-Great aoe damage
-Very tanky
-Good pusher
-Excellent in team fights
-Can take down mercenary camp without taking damage
-Short cds
-No mana

CONS
-Bad mobility
-Not good for chasing
-Disrupts are problem
-Thirsty :D have to drink every while

Abilities overview Top

Trait: Fortifying Brew (D) - This ability makes you drink from your keg gaining shield and brew. This is what makes Chen so tanky. You can easily tank 1 or 2 heroes without taking damage or tank forts, towers or anything else. However you can't anything else. Duration is 5 seconds and so is cooldown.

Flying Kick (Q) - This ability makes you fly though target and makes some damage. Good when someone is running away to catch up and body block. Also can to increase dps. I usually save this one for heroes who are trying to run away. Cooldown also 5 seconds

Keg Smash (W) - You will smash your to ground doing little damage. Any enemy hitted will also get soaked and slowed. This ability is small aoe with super small range. However you need to make enemy soaked before you use your Breath of Fire (E) to maximize your damage. Again 5 seconds cooldown.

Breath of Fire (E)- Your main ability to deal damage. With this ability you create cone of fire which obviously damage anyone and soaked targets also start burn. Yeah this one has 5 seconds cooldown too.

Talents Top

We are going to specialize in our aoe damage. Thus I am not going to explain every single talent because it should be obvious we want to maximize effectiveness of our Breath of Fire or alteast of Keg Smash . However I will add some possible alternatives

Level 1

Consuming Flame - This talent increase duration of Breath of Fire brew-soaked burning effect by 2 seconds. Thus it's nice increase damage. This one is highly preferable.

Alternatives:
Keg Toss - Since Keg Smash has really low range, this talent can be quite useful. Especially if you are going to pick some more talents to improve this ability later.

Regeneration Master - This will increase your regeneration by 4hp/s and then every 3 life orbs by 4hp/s. It can increase your sustain. Thus help you with pushing.

Grounding Brew - Reducing ability damage taken by 25% sounds quite good. Especially if you play against Kael'thas and/or Jaina. If you have healer reliable healer this talent should beat regeneration.

Level 4

Deep Breath - This one is obvious. Increase range and cone of your Breath of Fire by 30%. If you don't pick this one then you build something else probably.

Level 7

Ring of Fire - This is kind of Burning Rage however it works only 5 seconds after using Breath of fire however after it's buff it is doing better damage. Your Breath of fire has 5 seconds cooldown and thus your Ring of fire should be active most of time during fights and base pushes.

Alternatives: Level 7 is very interesting for Chen as all talents have something to offer

Combat Stance - This was my favourite pick when this talent was at level 16. Excelent talent which will increase duration of you shield by 2 seconds. Since shield Fortifying Brew is strong but has low duration, the shield usually winds up with end of it's duration, rather being destroyed by damage. This talent maximize this shield effectiveness. I recommend you pick this one if you tank a lot of damage.

Full Keg - Increase damage and radius of Keg Smash by 50%. That can be useful if enemy team is very mobile and you expect more fight in team and less push by yourself.

Brewmaster's Balance - This talent is interesting because it can increase your sustainability or you speed. Now they swapped it's effects it has become even more interesting talent to pick.

Level 10

Storm, Earth, Fire - IMHO this one is better choice as Heroic ability. It's nice increase of damage. Well aimed Q in this form can completly body block enemy hero make him completly unable to move. Also it can help you survive and/or run away with W and Q combo.
It is especially good with Elemental conduit

Alternative:

Wandering Keg - This ability is actually very good too. It has good CC potential as everyone you touch is pushed away. Now imagine you get three enemy heroes into corner and they get pushed again and again until this ability expires almost unable to do anything. It is also good for escape and you can save your allies with this ability. However it's not easy ability to use and if you don't use it properly, then you can do things even worse. I can talk about that because I saved few enemy heroe's lives by myself :D

Level 13

Enough to Share - You should be using your Fortifying Brew all time. Some extra shield for your allies during fight should be helpful.

Alternatives: Unlike level 7, level 13 is rather composed of weaker choices

Relentless - Too many enemy heroes have hard CC? Pick this one. This talent can be very helpful when you suffer from heavy CC. However it doesn't change fact your Fortifying Brew will get disrupted which is big problem.

A Touch of Honey - Since this talent makes your Keg Smash slow even more, it can be useful once again against mobile teams. Especially if you picked Full Keg and/or you plan to pick Keg Toss later.

Level 16

Pressure Point - If you want to be really competive I think you should pick this talent. Since this talent slows target by 90% for 1 second, while cooldown is only 5 secinds, it is very useful talent against very mobile heroes. It also can help you set up enemy for your Breath of Fire and Keg Smash combo. Or you can stop enemy from running from favourable areas. However you should as warrior mainly protect your damage dealers. This talent will help you much more effectively to pick off dangerous enemy from your squishy damage dealers.

Alternatives:

Bolder Flavor - This one increase your shield by 40%. It's very good talent making you even more tanky. It has very good synergy with Combat Stance. If you want to go more tanky, I suggest you pick this one.

Bottomless Mug - Now it reduces cooldown on your trait to 3 seconds it solid alternative if you get interrupted often while drinking

Level 20

Elemental conduit - Have you picked Storm, Earth, Fire before? Pick this one. Spirits are very useful. They can help to slow, do damage and tank non-heroic enemy.

Untapped Potential - Have you picked Wandering Keg before? Simply pick this. It improves effectivness of this heroic ability considerably.

Alternatives:

Hardened Shield - There is no reaon to pick this talent for Chen

Bolt of the Storm - This talent is no bad at all, yet it isn't exactly important talent for Chen and it gets overshadowed by heroics upgrades.

So how do I play? Top

It's quite simple. Although it might take few game before you get used to Chen

When I don't attack I usually use my Fortifying Brew. You can be never too ready for fight. So I use it all time when I wait in a bush or when I am standing behind minions or when I am preparing for fight.

Fights are usually done in cycles. First I drink Fortifying Brew then I throw my Keg Smash at my enemies and then I use my Breath of Fire and repeat.

Of course. If nobody attacks me I keep auto-attack until I need to drink more brew for abilities. If I am being under heavy attack I keep drink as much as I can. It happened me many times I get attacked by 2 or 3 enemy heroes so I keep spamming Fortifying Brew and start ping to help. If enemy doesn't have any disrupt or don't use them I am usually able to endure it for quite a while. When allies arrive you can turn situation in your advantage.

Another great thing is when you get low. Enemy usually tries to finish you. That's great time to spam Fortifying Brew. One or two heroes have hard time to take you down even when you have like 200 hit points and meanwhile your allies are free to attack them. Of course these situations are very dependent on both, your allies and enemies reactions. Sometimes you can tank like god and all your team leaves you anyway. Sometimes 2 enemy guys die at level 1 because they can't take down your last few hit points while your team mate on same line is slowly taking them down.

I usually use heroic ability when I get low. However sometimes it's better use it soon. Storm, Earth, Fire is nice boost of damage and Earth is slowing with every attack. It can help take down enemy down quickly. Also well used Q can completly block enemy from moving. Your W during Storm, Earth, Fire server to split up your pandas. That's very useful when you try to run away as with combinations with Q you have double jump.

For pushing lanes Fortifying Brew is ultimate ability. You can simply go push base without any help by yourself just by repeating the cycle. You can easily take down wall with towers without taking any damage. If your damage is low, then you at least can eat all ammo which makes pushing later much easier. I prefer to push by myself before my minions arrive because more shots they waste on you, less will be left to kill your minions.

Outro Top

Okay that's it :)

I thought I will be much faster. It took me much more time then I expected and same goes for maintaining too.
Anyway I thank you if you read up here :) and I hope you liked it.

English is not my first language nor I am good expressing and explaining in my first my language anyway :)
At least I did my best to use colours to make text easy on eye. I hope it readable.

Leave comments, there is always room to improve something and cya in Nexus ;)
