Atramedes

The Blind Dragon

Atramedes, also known as Experiment 25463-D, was a black whelp experimented on by Maloriak to be granted "sight beyond sight." This experiment failed, however, and caused Atramedes to become blind. Rather than disposing of him, Nefarian decided to make further use of the blind whelp.

Atramedes is a ranged specialist whose power lies in his unprecedented map awareness. He is blind (the entire map appears to the Atramedes player as though through the fog of war) however his trait, Sonar, works as an augmented vision radius that is three times the size of other heroes' vision. This vision is not shared with his allies, but any unit within it is visible to Atramedes as a "ping"; revealing themselves fully to him every time they cast an ability.

In the image above Atramedes can tell he has an ally behind him. He is also able to tell that there are three enemies nearby. Sylvanas has just used an ability, so she is visible to him. The large circle must be the enemy Azmodan because of its size. Atramedes is even able to tell that there is an enemy hiding in the nearby vent.

The fact that Atramedes is blind is, and should be, a hindrance to the player. He is unable to tell which of his enemies he is encountering until he interacts with them in some way. Even his allies are not visible. Atramedes must remember which heroes, either friend or foe, are nearby. This is essential in capturing the experience of Atramedes. However with his other powerful senses he is more than able to contribute to his team through scouting and map awareness.

Combat Trait

1
Sonar
Atramedes has no vision radius and does not have access to his allies' vision. The entire map appears to Atramedes as though it is under the fog of war.

Atramedes has his own unique vision that is three times larger than other heroes. Units (heroes, minions, etc.) appear as colored nodes while within range of Atramedes' Sonar. Enemies appear red, allies appear blue. Even cloaked heroes are visible to Atramedes this way.

Atramedes cannot differentiate between heroes until they cast an ability within Sonar's radius, in which case Atramedes gains vision of them for 3 seconds. This effect is tripled for allies.

Primary Abilities

1
Roaring Flame
Breathe fire in a narrow line, damaging all enemies hit and dealing low damage every second for 4 seconds. 6 second cooldown.

Enemies taking damage from Roaring Flame are visible to Atramedes.
2
Echolocation
Send out a slow moving circle of sound. Once it reaches its maximum range it will begin to pulse, dealing damage in a large area every two seconds for 8 seconds. Can be reactivated to detonate before reaching its maximum range. 14 second cooldown.

Each pulse from Echolocation reveals the area to Atramedes and his allies for 1.5 seconds.
3
Sonic Boom
Burst forward, knocking back all enemies near your casting point and gaining 60% movement speed, decaying rapidly over 1.5 seconds. 15 second cooldown.

Heroic Abilities

1
Hide & Seek
Causes all enemy heroes to glow (that distinct 'glow-n-the-dark' green color) until they have traveled X distance or for 20 seconds. Glowing enemies are visible to your allies as well. 80 second cooldown.

Glowing enemies are visible in the fog of war but not on the minimap.
2
Cacophony
Unleash a deafening roar that damages and silences nearby enemies. In addition Cacophony will also remove the vision of ALL nearby heroes. 90 second cooldown.

Cacophony lasts 2 seconds on allies and 4 seconds on enemies.

Special Mount

1
Pale White Dragon
After a short channel Atramedes takes flight, increasing his movement speed by 20% and allowing him to fly over obstacles.

Dealing damage or being dealt damage ends Pale White Dragon.

Talent Tree

Level 1:
You Cannot Run: Enemies are slowed by 20% for 2 seconds when they first become visible to Atramedes. This effect has a 15 second cooldown per hero.
You Cannot Hide: Increase the duration of enemy heroes being visible after casting an ability to 6 seconds.
Resonance Frequency: Non-heroic units and structures take 15% increased damage from Atramedes for 4 seconds after taking damage from Echolocation. This effect stacks.
Cruise Control: The decaying effect of Sonic Boom is paused while passing through the radius of Echolocation.

Level 4:

In Sync: Damage you deal to a target is increased by 1% for every second they are visible to you, up to 10%. This effect is lost if you lose sight of them for 1 second.
No Need For Eyes: Damage dealt to you is reduced by 4% for each visible hero.
Searing Flame: Enemies that were already visible before being hit by Roaring Flame take 25% increased damage from Roaring Flame.
Tuned Up: Roaring Flame heals you for 15% of your health if it reveals an enemy hero.

Level 7:
Little Hearts Beating: Any enemy hero with less than 25% health is revealed to you.
Stoke The Flames: Your basic attacks refresh the damage over time portion of Roaring Flame.
Reverberate: Basic attacks against targets that are within the radius of Echolocation will chain to nearby enemies, dealing 50% damage.
The Haunter In The Dark: The radius of Sonar is increased by 20% while Pale White Dragon is active.

Level 10:

See above section.

Level 13:

Blast Of Silence: Echolocation will instead deal all of its damage instantly upon detonation. The area will be revealed every two seconds as normal.
Echo, Echo, Echo: Echolocation releases three circles of sound in an arc, but their size is reduced by 35%.
Gotta Go Fast: Increase the duration of Sonic Boom by 0.5 seconds and reduce the duration of Stuns, Roots, and Slows by 75% while it is active.
Sound Barrier: Pale White Dragon cannot be interrupted by taking damage while within the radius of Echolocation or for 1 second after leaving the radius of Echolocation.

Level 16:

Kindling: Roaring Flame's range and width is increased by 10% for every visible enemy hero.
Mr. Magma-Goo: Enemies taking damage from Roaring Flame will spread it to their nearby allies. Allies that received Roaring Flame this way will not spread it further.
Surround Sound: Echolocation gains a second charge. The damage from two Echolocations does not overlap.
Wing Buffet: Sonic Boom also knocks targets back when the effect ends.

Level 20:
Ready Or Not: Allied heroes receive a 20% movement speed increase while at least 1 enemy hero is glowing from Hide & Seek.
Vertigo: Enemies hit by Cacophony are slowed by 40% for 4 seconds.
Loud And Thunderous: Sonar's radius is increased by 30%, and enemy "pings" in the fog of war are visible to your allies.
Ghost Rider In The Sky: Pale White Dragon grants stealth while it is active.

Atramedes as a Scout

Atramedes, although blind, would likely be one of the best scouts in the game. Any unit within the radius of his Sonar is able to be tracked by him. This information is not shared with his allies however.

In the above image we see Atramedes and Sonya moving in to contest a Garden Terror. Sonya is visible to him because she has recently cast an ability, but the three enemies nearby are not. However, unlike Sonya, Atramedes knows exactly where they are and has pinged the area as dangerous. It would be wise to listen to Atramedes.

In this image we can also see Atramedes flying with Pale White Dragon; he is in the process of passing over a wall. For purposes of targeting Atramedes we can see that half of his hitbox has remained on one side of the wall as he passes over it while the other half appears on the opposite side.

A bad part of this concept is that if blizzard were to make Atramedes a hero, there is not much variety for skins which is usually how people make money from MOBA games unfortunately. It's a good concept though and all of his abilities make sense so good job anyway.

Thanks! Off the top of my head for skins: one that makes him look like a bat, and one called "Synesthesia Atramedes" where he's colorful and all his abilities are rainbow colored.

It made me think about something (a totally different hero) that could be funny : a blind but powerful hero that can only see MOVING ennemy in front of him. So when he his near us, we could stop moving and hopping he didn't "see" us :D

Like in movie ...

Yea that could be interesting. I briefly considered making that occur for Atramedes but I don't think it would work in this kit; just too many issues with how he sees units then.

i was actually just thinking about how he would be rad, i love his look. as for the concept, do you think it would be better to have his trait pulse? a constant vision might be a bit too powerful. but other than that, i love the ideas for his blindness.

This is actually a reworked version of an older Atramedes concept I'd done that functioned in a sort of similar way, and in that concept his Sonar did go out in pulses. I felt it got a little too messy so I reworked it as it is. I tried to balance how large is vision is with a few factors: 1. His team can't see what he sees (until level 20 if he picks Loud And Thunderous), 2. He isn't able to tell which heroes he's seeing until they use an ability or he attacks them, and 3. he isn't even able to tell which allies are near him until they cast an ability as well. So yes, his "vision" is very powerful, but it comes with a lot of drawbacks. I felt this was necessary to really make the feeling of controlling a blind hero unique.

that's understandable, I think I just took the name "sonar" too literally haha. but if they add a dragon this should be the first one, very unique. luckily they can't use the excuse he's too big because the added a siege tank. also i've noticed you're pretty good at these concepts and was wondering if you could give me some constructive criticism on some of my stuff.

A funny intro quote he could have is when he is in the same team as Stitches and he says "MY LORD, what is that smell?"

Thank you! Not sure if it would make him really strong or really weak, but he'd definitely be interesting.
