Blook

Neutral Follower

The Ogron are a race of giants that once lived on Draenor. They take in their surroundings with a single yellow eye—slow to blink and even slower to comprehend. Too idiotic to disobey orders, ogron serve as expendable muscle for ogre leaders from warlords all the way up to the emperor himself.

Blook is a weak Neutral Hero that switches teams throughout the game. When the game begins, the Blook player spawns in the middle of the top lane. Both teams are hostile to him at this point. When the gates open, any hero that finds him can engage him in combat. Blook will join the team of whichever hero landed the killing blow against him. Blook is meant to be a minor boost to whichever team he is on. It would not be a "5 v 6" match - - more like a "5 v 5.25". After a 1 minute cooldown Blook is eligible to switch teams again if he is killed by the enemy.

Most importantly when the game ends Blook is automatically assigned to the losing team. Things are not hopeless for the poor Ogron however, as he has a chance to be placed on the winning team. The chances of him being assigned a win are increased by actions he did while on the losing team (explained in full at the end of this concept). This is to incentivize the player to work hard for both teams.

In addition:
- Blook does not soak or grant XP
- Is always the same level as the lowest team
- Has relatively weak attacks
- Cannot use mounts

The Blook player would queue up by themselves and be matched with a normal 5v5 game.

Combat Trait

1
Bested In Combat
Blook joins the team of any hero that defeats him.

Upon death, Blook takes a knee for 5 seconds. After this time he is revived with full health, having become a member of the team that killed him. This effect has a 1 minute cooldown. If killed before becoming eligible for a team swap Blook simply remains on the same team after regenerating his health.

Primary Abilities

1
Pummel
Unleash a volley of blows against your target for 3 seconds. 12 second cooldown.

Each blow during Pummel has a chance to miss equal to your current attack speed increase from Recklessness.
2
Vine Lash
(Skillshot) Lasso an enemy hero with a Gorgrond Vine, slowing them by 20% for 3 seconds. 15 second cooldown.

Enemies moving away from Blook while under the effect of Vine Lash pull him with them.
3
Recklessness
(Passive) Blook gains confidence in his combat prowess over time, increasing his attack speed by 5% every 20 seconds, but increasing all damage he takes by 5% every 20 seconds as well.

This bonus is reset when Blook swaps teams.

Heroic Abilities

1
Blook Going Home
Drop from your current team, gaining 20% movement speed and become Neutral once more. If you are able to remain Neutral for 30 seconds you gain 5% towards your chance to win with both teams. 90 second cooldown. Blook is visible on the minimap to both teams during Blook Going Home.

The timer for Blook Going Home does not start until you have hit an enemy hero after activating the ability.

During Blook Going Home you are worth two hero takedowns if you are killed. If you survive for the entire 30 seconds you are placed back on the team you were on when you used Blook Going Home.
2
Blook's Smashers
Gain a set of maces that increase your attack damage by 50% while you wield them. Only one is available at a time, and each Smasher is assigned to a team.

Upon changing teams, drop Blook's Smasher, forcing you to retrieve the other Smasher from wherever you had dropped it. Allied heroes can run over it to pick it up for you.

You will already be wielding a Smasher the first time you change teams after picking this ult.

Special Mount

1
-
Blook is too stupid to use mounts.

Increasing Your Chance To Win

By default, when the game ends Blook is placed on the losing team. He has a chance to be placed on the winning team based upon the actions he performed while on the losing team throughout the game. Blook starts with a 25% chance to swap to the winning team. The factors that increase this chance are as follows:

- +0.5% for each successful Vine Lash while on the losing team
- +2% for each time he used his level 1 talent while on the losing team

These numbers are added together before being multiplied by a fraction of the hero damage dealt while on the losing team (this number cannot be smaller than 1). On average a Blook player would put out roughly 1,500 hero damage for each team. This number is divided by 1,000 before being multiplied by the total above to give us the bonus chance to win.

As an example, let's say at the end of a game a Blook player's stats for the losing team were as follows:

- 18 successful Vine Lashes (x0.5 = 9%)

- Used his level 1 talent 8 times (x2 = 16%)

- 1,836 hero damage

We add up the first two numbers (9 + 16 = 25), multiply it by a fraction of our hero damage (25 x 1.836 = 45.9), and add that total to our base win chance of 25%: This particular Blook player has a 70.9% chance of earning a win.

There is an additional modifier to prevent Blook from being punished by short games where he doesn't have enough time to put out meaningful numbers.

Talents

Level 1:
Gorgrond Diplomacy: Upon changing teams, gain a stack of Gorgrond Diplomacy. This can be used to instantly defeat and spawn 1 non-boss mercenary. Stacks can only be used while on the team they were awarded to you. Maximum two stacks.
Fickle Friends: Activate to assign an ally as your Friend. While near your Friend you deal 25% increased damage. Upon swapping teams your Friend deals 25% more damage to you. This bonus is lost if you switch teams once more. Gain 1 charge of Fickle Friends every time you swap teams.

Level 4:
Two For Flinching: If an enemy hero is killed within 3 seconds of being hit by Pummel its cooldown is reset.
Overgrowth: Increase the range of Vine Lash by an amount equal to your highest win % chance.
Blook Beat Tiny Person: A percentage of damage you deal to minions is counted as hero damage towards your chance to win. This percentage is equal to your current attack speed bonus from Recklessness.

Level 7:

Blook Try Again: The cooldown of Vine Lash is reduced by 5 seconds if you miss. Cannot occur twice in a row.
Float Like Butterfly: Recklessness also increases your movement speed at the same rate, to a maximum increase of 15%.
Sting Like Bee: Pummel gains a chance to crit equal to your attack speed increase from Recklessness.

Level 10:
See above section.

Level 13:
Play Time: Pummel allows you to charge a short distance towards your target when its activated.
Big Bully: Consecutive Pummels against the same target increase in duration by 1 second and award you 0.15% towards your chance to win.
Tangled: Consecutive Vine Lashes against the same target increase in duration by 1 second. If it lasts its full duration gain 0.15% towards your chance to win.

Level 16:
And I Helped!: Gain 1% chance to win for your current team if an enemy hero is killed while under the effect of Vine Lash.
Reckless Without A Cause: If the bonus damage you're taking from Recklessness reaches 30% before you swap teams, all actions that increase your chance to win are counted for both teams until Recklessness is reset.
Ogron's Fury: Recklessness can be activated to double its current attack speed bonus for 10 seconds. 30 second cooldown.

Level 20:

Catch Me If You Can: Basic attacks against heroes during Blook Going Home add 0.25% to the potential reward if Blook lasts for 30 seconds, and the bonus speed of Blook Going Home is increased to 30%.
Blook's Breakers:
Consecutive basic attacks against the same target while wielding a Smasher apply a stacking 5% vulnerability to the target. This only increases damage dealt by Blook.
Seal The Deal: Gain an additional 3% chance to win for any killing blow you landed while on either team.

Interesting idea for a Brawl mode (1v4v4) or as a unique Boss Mercenary.

That's a fair concern, but I don't think that would be very effective. Once on the losing team he has to actively do things that help them to increase his win % chance. The longer he remains on one team the easier it becomes to kill him because of Reckless, so he'd end up back on the other team eventually. There's also a 1 minute cooldown on team swapping, so every time he changed teams back to the winning side he'd have to wait a full minute before suiciding. It just wouldn't be worth it. Might as well do work on both teams and hedge your bets so you've got a good chance to win no matter which team ends up victorious.

Interesting idea. However, I don't think it would work, from a player experience. How would the game bend itself to allow a 11th player to join? Unless the presence of Blook made the game a 4x4 plus Blook, which would also be weird from a draft perspective - if the enemy team drafted 4 heroes and I pick Blook, they can't pick their last Hero? Seems broken / has potential for abuse.

Also, Heroes is a very team based game, even moreso than other MOBAs. It's against the spirit of the game having a player that just wants to win, no matter which team he is paired, and is extremely frustrating for a team to have one of their members swapping side.

What happens if the Blook player is in a party with other players, with voice com? What happens if Blook swaps to the opposite side and, instead of playing, keep just relaying information to his friends (the "enemy team"), even though he, as a player, will lose the match, to ensure that his team wins? How would that even work, one team winning and a player losing but they are in the same party?

When I first read this concept, it seems like a good idea, with some potential. However, as it is currently presented, there are too many potential for abuse or weirdness, so I doubt anything like this would be healthy for the game as it is.

To be clear I don't imagine something like this would end up in the game, but it does work the way I've designed it. He does not take up a slot on either team, he's merely an 11th player matched with a regular game. Because of this he's not able to be in a party with anyone, which solves the issues you presented.

Blook is a weak hero. Like I said he'd only be putting out around 3k hero damage total during the game, and that's split across two teams. His goals are aligned with whichever team he's on at the time by default, because positive actions he does while on that team increase the odds of him winning. He's weak enough that it wouldn't be a big issue when he was on the enemy team, but if you see him in your lane you'll throw a few auto attacks his way to convert him to yours because why not.
