Colossus

Protoss War Machine

The Colossus is a ranged assassin that deals high damage to closer targets. Using its trait, Strider, it is able to wade through the chaos of a team fight and position itself freely. The twin Thermal Lances of the Colossus are able to attack two targets at once allowing the player access to a sort of 'ebb and flow' playstyle as they move between their targets, increasing and reducing their damage based on proximity. The Colossus is not especially durable however, and successful play would require knowing when to pursue an enemy deep into their territory and when to fall back.

As an additional note the Colossus' basic attack involves the firing of its lasers to quickly draw an 'X' shape, with the targeted unit being at the point of intersection.

Above: Colossus targets a minion with its basic attack. This unique attack animation strafes the area, damaging nearby targets as well. Note how the reticle is in a fixed position relative to the Colossus. This allows the player to move around their target, rotating the 'X' and ensuring each basic attack hits as many enemies as possible.

Combat Trait

1
Strider
The Colossus' movement is not impeded by walls, gates, or units.

Primary Abilities

1
Thermal Lance
Activate to channel a beam of energy on the target enemy, dealing damage over time. Lasts until canceled or the target leaves range. The damage of Thermal Lance increases based on how close you are to the target, with the highest damage being dealt when you are directly on top of your enemy.

2 charges on a 10 second cooldown.

Can be active on two targets at once, but cannot use both charges on one target at the same time.

Can move while channeling. Can cast other abilities while channeling.
2
Anion Pulse
Blast the ground after a short delay, dealing damage to enemies hit and creating a short line of debris that blocks movement for 2 seconds.

10 second cooldown.
3
Gravitic Drive
Activate to increase your speed by 10% per second, up to 30%. Lasts 1 second after reaching maximum speed.

14 second cooldown.

Heroic Abilities

1
Matrix
Deploy a small ring of plasma "mirrors" around you that block movement. While this ring is active Colossus can target a mirror with Thermal Lance to have it ricochet among the mirrors, filling the interior and damaging any enemies caught inside.

Lasts 4 seconds, 60 second cooldown.
2
Conduit
Mark an enemy hero for 8 seconds, causing your Thermal Lance damage dealt to them to chain to their nearby allied heroes. In addition the beam connecting these heroes damages units and structures that it hits.

80 second cooldown.

Special Mount

1
-
Colossus cannot use mounts.

Talents

Level 1:
Unimpeded: Moving over a unit or obstacle that would normally block movement increases your speed by 10% for 1 second.
Scorched Earth: Your basic attacks burn the area for 2 seconds.
Javelin: (Quest) Every time you deal damage with Thermal Lance, increase the damage it deals by 0.5, up to 50.
(Reward) The range of Thermal Lance is increased by 15%, and it persists on targets for 1 second after they leave range.
Debris Field: Enemies hit by Anion Pulse are slowed by 20% for 3 seconds.

Level 4:
Depleted Core: Using Thermal Lance while below 25% mana instead causes you to gain mana while channeling, up to 10% of your maximum mana.
Divide And Conquer: While Thermal Lance is active on two targets it deals increased damage based on how far apart these targets are, up to 50%.
Pulse Calibration: Increase the range of Anion Pulse by 35%, and its size is increased based on how far away it is cast, up to 35%.

Level 7:
Crosshairs: You can basic attack two targets at once.
Plasma Lash: Increase the damage of Anion Pulse by 100% and remove its casting delay, but it no longer blocks enemy movement.
Target Acquired: Gravitic Drive's duration is paused for 2 seconds after you target an enemy with Thermal Lance.
Relativity: During Gravitic Drive your cooldowns refresh 100% faster, and the cooldowns of enemies within a small radius around you refresh 100% slower.

Level 10:
See above section.

Level 13:
Superiority: You gain 25 Armor while directly above an enemy hero targeted by Thermal Lance.
Overload: Thermal Lance deals an additional burst of damage when it ends equal to 15% of all damage it had dealt to that target.
Gravitational Lensing: Gain unbreakable stealth for 0.75 seconds after Gravitic Drive begins and ends.

Level 16:
Clash Of The Titans: Activate to cause your next Thermal Lance to deal additional damage equal to 1.5% of the target's maximum health each time it deals damage, up to 15%. 60 second cooldown.
Broadside: Both charges of Thermal Lance can be cast on one target at the same time.
Warp Drive: Gravitic Drive can be reactivated to return to the location where you initially activated Gravitic Drive.

Level 20:
Colossal Strides: You cannot be slowed or rooted.
Plasma Bloom: When Matrix expires it sends out a short beam of energy in every direction. Each beam deals damage equal to 50% of all damage Colossus dealt within that Matrix.
Flux Capacitor: Increase the range at which Conduit can chain to enemy heroes by 50%. Enemy heroes killed while under the effect of Conduit reduce its cooldown by 10 seconds.
Phalanx Beams: Each charge of Thermal Lance applies 2 beams to the target. These secondary beams deal 50% less damage.

You've done it again my friend. Great concept. But how far is its attack range?

Thanks! I'm imagining the attack range to be similar to Azmodan's laser, but it's easier for the Colossus to stick to his targets because he doesn't lose movement speed while channeling. The defense against this is to turn on the Colossus and force him to back off. And no I don't play much Starcraft at all. I'm -very- bad at RTS games lol.

Wow, you strike me at the heart with this one, LOVE it, crisp, clean, straightforward, well made :D

TBT - been trying to make this bad boy work for a few attempts beforehand

Frankly I guess I overthought all the special stuff cause I wanted to catch the whole "Protoss theme" of having Shields, being Recharged by Shield Battery, not regain HP or heal but gain fast-loading shields while out of combat, Aand = being repaired by the mule ofc :D. Now = ON TOP OF THAT = I also wanted to make it a Ranged Warrior by role lol

Kinda disappointed that 'wasted' an opportunity for an awesome specialist to become yet another assassin, but it's fine, love the concept, can work on the talent-tree a bit like couple 'weird' talents but overall as said = straightforward and clean, well made, especially like the "courageous touch" of giving the "somewhat" weird/wacky-working heroics as well

Thanks

Thanks! And yea I had the same problem as you; I started this concept like a year ago and kept abandoning it because I kept overthinking it. When I just settled on the basic gameplay of "stick as close to your target as long as possible, with the mobility to do so" it wrote itself.
