Kil'Jaeden

The Deciever

I've always thought that the legion could use more presence within HOTS and Kil'Jaeden is on the at the top of the list on heroes I would want to see added.

I went for the sort of design that Cho'gall and Deathwing have in that they're a raid boss. Numbers are placeholders that could move up or down, but the general idea is that these abilities are supposed to be extremely dangerous. Haven't added anything like mana costs or health hp regen at the moment as this primarily a concept on how the abilities function and haven't designed them to interact with mana or fel energy in any dynamic way.

I focused more on his fight from Tomb of Sargeras over Sunwell PLateau because his fight in TOS is infamously difficult and is more lore accurate to the Legion and Kil'Jaeden as far as abilities go.

Combat Trait

1
Fel Claws
Passive: Kil'Jaeden's auto attacks ignore armor

Primary Abilities

1
Focused Dreadflame
Kil'Jaeden shoots dreadflame in a straight line skill shot that pierces all enemies hit dealing 200 damage

12 second cooldown
2
Chaos Bolt
Kil'Jaeden fires a slow moving bolt of pure chaos energy in a skill shot line dealing 400 damage. This ability ignores armor and can only hit heroes, mercenaries, and monsters.

15 second cooldown
3
Shadow Reflection
Kil'Jaeden severs the soul of the target player spawning in an area around the target. 30% of the damage the soul takes is transferred to their hero. Last for 5 seconds and can take damage from from Kil'Jeadens allies.

20 Second cooldown

Heroic Abilities

1
Armaggedon
Kil'Jaeden calls down a fel meteor to land on a target location and send out a fel shock wave. Enemies hit directly by the meteor are stunned for one sceond and take 500 damage. Enemies outside the range of the initial impact that are instead hit by the fel shock wave take a damage over time effect for 1000 damage

100 second cooldown
2
Mind Invasion
Kil'Jaeden invades the mind of the enemy hero. Their abilities now effect both allies and enemies. Last for 20 seconds or until Kil'Jaeden is killed.

120 Second cooldown

Special Mount

1
Flight
Kil'Jaeden spreads his wings letting him move at 30% movement speed and travel over terrain. If kil'jaeden drops below 80% health while flying he plummets to the ground being stunned for 1 second.

Level 1 Talents

Bursting Dreadflame (Q) - Each enemy hit by Focused Dreadflame grants a stack of Bursting Dreadflame.
At 20 stacks gain 100 damage
At 50 stacks 2 addition dreadflame beams shoot out at the sides of the main beam

Empowered Chaos Bolt (W) - Chaos bolt moves faster

Nether Sight (Passive) - Kil'Jaeden gains true sight

Demon Claws (Passive) - Increase Kil'Jaedens base auto attack damage by 20

Level 4 Talents

Bursting Dreadflame (Q) - Enemies hit by Focused Dreadflame explode for additional 100 damage 2 seconds afterbeing hit by Focused Dreadflame

Chaos Energy (W) - Increase Chaos bolts damage by 150. Chaos bolt leaves 3 shards of chaos behind in the area around the target hit. If Kil'Jaeden picks up these shards it redueces the cooldown of Chaos bolt by 5 seconds. If an enemy hero picks up these shards that gain increased attack speed and ability power for 5 seconds, however after 5 seconds they take 300 damage per shard grabbed.

Soul Harvester (Passive) - Kil'Jaeden heals for 15% of the damage he deals

Demon Skin (Passive) - Kil'Jaeden Gains 10 armor

Level 7 talents

Shadow Reflection: Wailing (E) - The Shadow Reflection now transfers 50% of the damage it takes

Shadow Reflection: Bursting (E) - The original hero now pulsates the damage the damage they are taking in an area around them

Shadow Reflection: Malignant (E) - The Shadow Reflection no longer deals its damage has it takes it, but instead deals it when it ends.

Shadow Reflection: Hopelessness (E) - The hero targeted by shadow reflection takes 30% reduced healing while the reflection is active

Level 13 Talents

Echoing Dreadflame (Q) - An untalented Dreadflame is recast from original position it was cast from two seconds after the original cast

Crashing Chaos (W) - If chaos bolt has hit the same hero twice in a row reset its cool down immeditally

Blazing Claws (Trait - Active) - Active to make your next auto attack instant cast and do 50% increased damage

Demon Lord (Passive) - For each hero hit by Dreadflame increases the damage of your next chaos bolt by 10%
Chaos Bolt causes the target to take 30% increased damage from Dreadflame

Level 16 Talents

Chaotic wound (W) - Chaos bolt applies a 30% healing reduction to the target hit and slows them by 30%

Overwhelming Chaos (W) - Chaos Bolt kills allied and enemy minions when it passes over them.

Massive Claws (D Passive) - Fel Claws now causes Kil'Jaedens auto attacks to cleave

Nether Gale (1) - Active to cause Kil'Jaeden to partial slip in the nether. Gaining 50 armor, but deal 30% less damage for 4 seconds

Level 20 Talents

Armageddon Hail (R1) - Armaggedon now spawns 3 smaller meteors to fall in a random area around the main meteor. These smaller meteors to 300 damage to anyone hit and release a smaller fel shock wave that deals 600 damage to anyone hit by the wave.

Kil'Jaeden's Cunning (R2) - Mind Invasion spreads to all enemy heroes damaged or healed by the original target. Now lasts for 30 seconds or until Kil'Jaeden is killed

Chaos Bolt Volley (W) - When Chaos bolt hits an enemy hero it now bounces to any nearby enemy heroes

Soul Harvester (E) - Kil'Jaeden now fully rips the heroes soul from their body. The soul now transfers 100% of the damage taken back to the hero and if the soul dies, the hero dies. Kil'Jaeden rips the soul with so much force that it pulls the soul over to him. However, because it Kil'Jaeden is now the only one able to damage the soul.

Wings of Destruction (Z) - Kil'Jaeden can now cast abilities while mounted. Adds a 15 second cooldown to mounting

This concept has potential. It needs more information.

[Fel Claws] making the target take 20% more damage for 5 seconds would be overpowered by itself, but it also Slows them, makes your next Basic Attack instant, and doubles its damage. This is just too much value, even for a 20 second cooldown.

[Focused Dreadflame] deals too much damage. Simple as that.

[Chaos Bolt] deals TOO much damage even if it does move slow. It is already diffuclt to block due to it ignoring most enemy units.

[Shadow Reflection] sounds like a cool idea, but is a very broken effect, as it is basically free damage on any target without any counterplay.

[Nether Gale] is simply overpowered. It almost doubles his Health for the duration.

[Armageddon] sounds almost identical to Ragnaros's [Sulfuras Smash]. It is also extremely overtuned in terms of damage.

[Mind Invasion] sounds extremely frustrating to play against for most characters.

Can [Flight] not be interrupted at all? Is there no cooldown?

Tuning can definitely go downward for the abilities. My primary focus was just the concept of the abilities and the kit, numbers were thrown in to show the intent that I want the abilities to be dangerous. If I were actually implementing the hero into the game I would do a lot more tuning.

Fel claws does have a lot of value baked into baseline. Design wise I do think that is a problem the more I've thought about it. A good portion of the power should be baked into talents

Shadow reflection is an interesting one to design weaknesses, consistency, and counter play into it. I believe it would require a lot of play testing to make it healthy, whether those final changes would be number related, spawn logic related, or making it so only KJ can damage it.

Other than number changes, I believe I would make Nether gale a talent at 16 instead of a baseline ability.

I did have a problem with Armageddon when I was making it, with that it was too similar to Sulfuras Smash, which is where I ended up giving it the shockwave. It is the part of the concept that I am the least comfortable with because of that. It was such an infamous ability from his Legion fight that I wanted it included but making it faithful to the fight would be so frustrating to play against and making it more suitable for HOTS makes it so similar to Sulfuras Smash

I get the concern about Mind Invasion. My favorite hero is li-ming and my favorite build is Q, getting hit with that ult would drive me insane. A tweak I would make would be that only the heroes ult is impacted.

I would have flight be interruptible during the cast. I would keep the cooldown the same as other mounts, unless you take the level 20 upgrade where I would add a larger cooldown to it.
