Niadra

Parasitic Broodmother

Niadra is a Zerg Broodmother specifically created for the purpose of infiltration and wiping out a protoss fleet from the inside. She started her life as a parasite in a protoss body, consuming the host and wildlife on the space fleet to evolve into a Broodmother. From there she collected Biomass to form a brood and kill all Protoss aboard the ship, claiming it and growing her brood until she was called upon again.
Niadra is a primary healer who utilizes both Mana and collects a resource called Biomass to grant her additional talents. Biomass is obtained with the help of her parasites.

Combat Trait

Adaptive Genetics – (Passive)
Whenever Niadra collects X amount of Biomass, she may choose a maximum of (1) bonus talent on an unlocked tier. Higher tiers require more Biomass.
Every time Niadra dies, she loses X amount of Biomass.

Primary Abilities

Transfusion - (Q)
Mana: X

Heal target allied hero for X. Allied heroes around the target are healed for 25% of the amount.

Cooldown: 9 seconds.

Parasitic Larva - (W)
Mana: X

Shoot a Zerglarva, infesting the first non-structure enemy hit. The Larva will deal X amount of damage every second and reveal the target for the duration. If host receives X amount of healing, Niadra's parasite is destroyed.

10 second duration.

Charge Cooldown: 15 seconds. Stores up to 2 charges.

Collect Biomass - (E)
Mana: X

Niadra instantly commands her parasites to burst from their hosts and return, granting her X amount of Biomass for every second spent in a host and healing Niadra for X. Explosion deals X amount of damage to nearby enemies. Non-heroic enemies only grant 20% Biomass.

Cooldown: 6 seconds.

Heroic Abilities

Paralyzing Enzymes - (R)
Mana: X

Larva Hosts are affected by a ramping slow over 5 seconds, increasing by 10% every second. After 5 seconds, targets are rooted for 1.5 seconds.

Cooldown: 45 seconds.

Passive: Larva Hosts deal 20% less damage against targets healed by Transfusion in the last 3 seconds.

Benevolent Infestation
Mana: X

Infests an allied hero with a larva that increases healing received from all sources by 20%, suppresses revealing effects on the target and increases their armor, spellpower and attackspeed by 10. If the host takes X amount of damage Niadra's parasite is destroyed.

Cooldown: 80 seconds.

Talent Ideas

Possible talents:

As suggested, Niadra's role as a healer is having the potential to counter certain overbearing mechanics with her talent choices. Shields, mobilitycreep and others. Thus majority of all talents she has are choices to cripple enemy teamcomps.
These are not sorted in any way for talent levels, just to give ideas what talents may look like


Specialized Acid - (E)

Bursting a parasite from a host, causes X damage to shields and suppresses the re-application of shields for 2 seconds.

Resistant Infestation

Why another Zerg Queen? We have Zagara already?

While they are similiar appearance wise, I do not see an issue as we have Raynor and Tychus:
- Both are Marines
- Both are ranged assassins.
- Both are autoattackers.
And yet they can co-exist without much overlap. Zagara fills the summoner/splitpushing role. Niadra can take the support/utility role that Queens normally hold in StarCraft.

How does she work? TLDR;

- Niadra is a healer who deals damage over time similiar to Lunara, Nazeebo or Malthael. She infects enemies with larva parasites that can be removed with healing.
- Parasites grant her biomass which lets Niadra unlock (1) additional talent on a talent tier for every X amount. (This means she could possibly have 12 talents instead of 6.)
- Her talents will counter certain mechanics such as shields, stealth or mobility.
- Healing is imagined to be around equal to Kharazim or Rehgar.

Author's Notes

I attempted to cover unexplored design space, fill the zerg support role and bring a (hopefully) fun and engaging new support design.

Optimally Niadra has a considerable amount of both playmaking and draft potential aswell as counterplay for the opposing team. Examples include:

- Her parasites and thus biomass collection and damage output becomes less useful against double support and self-healing heroes.

- Killing her prevents snowballing with bonus talents and punished bad Niadra play/rewards opposing ganks.

- Niadra herself is an adaptable soft to hardcounter depending on the enemy teamcomp and her own talent progression.

- There are no powerful singletarget saves, thus she is very impaired against focusfire and dive setups.

- Niadra excels in a poke environment paired, potentially with another support to benefit from her ultimate.

- She also synergizes with a hero like Zeratul, as her infestation allows him to stay cloaked against scouting drones, oracle and similiar reveal mechanics aswell as give him vision of kill targets with larva parasites.

She has no creep related abilities or talents as she operates without creep in StarCraft which is ideal as to not tread into Zagara's kit.

Numbers can make or break a hero on their own so numbers are mostly non-existent here. Numbers that I used are mainly there to showcase the direction of the ability/spell or give a better feel for it so most will simply be X

She is especially powerful against shields because of the still lacking proper shieldcounter and her existance being based around eradicating Protoss. A race utilizing shields for everything.
