Praetor Fenix

The Champion of Aiur

"Zeratul described Fenix as being "as stalwart a warrior as I have ever known" and Kerrigan acknowledged him as being "uncannily resourceful." He has proven himself to be one of the strongest protoss warriors of all time." - Starcraft Wikia

Loyal, proud, a champion of the protoss ideal, Fenix is the ultimate soldier of the protoss empire.

If there is one single character that I would literally pull out, and I mean PULL OUT, my wallet and purchase his release bundle for, that would be Fenix. The one zealot, the first Protoss hero unit that we ever use in Starcraft, really gave me a feel for what a zealot is. Relentless, stalwart, selfless. His voice, his quotes, the speed at which he talked (he talks really fast), just made me fall in love with his character. Granted, his character did not receive as much development as say Raynor, Kerrigan, Zeratul, and all the characters that appeared in recent games, but that does not take away his sheer awesomeness and power that he showed during his short lived time in the Starcraft franchise.

Every time I see the Legacy of the Void traler cinematic, I just remember Fenix. That is the way of the zealot. Even when facing a huge horde of zerg, a zealot does not hesitate, a zealot does not even FROWN. A zealot unleashes his blades without a second of pause and charges into the fray--For Aiur.

This is personally what I would want Fenix to be. A reckless, all-in, team-wrecker that can manhandle anything that dares to stand in his path to the enemy core. He is a legendary warrior in Protoss history, and that is not easy to achieve.

Combat Trait

1
aiur's champion
A true zealot never rests.
Whenever Fenix is defeated, he can choose to become a Dragoon and continue to fight for his team. Upon activation of his Trait, Fenix becomes a Dragoon, and his death timer is halted. When he is destroyed as a Dragoon, or activates this trait, the death timer resumes.
2
Aiur's Champion
Fenix's secondary bar is Plasma Shields. 75% of all damage done to enemy heroes is turned into Plasma Shields that very rapidly decay after 1.5 seconds of not dealing damage.
Shield cap: 400 at level 1, 1200 at level 20.
3
General Stats at Level 20
Health: ~1300 (below average)
Health Regen: ~6 (very high)
Plasma Shield cap: 1000
Attack Speed: 1.3 (high)
Attack Damage: 108 (above average)

Primary Abilities

1
Burst of Plasma (Q)
Cooldown: 9 seconds
Cost: 30% of maximum Plasma Shields
Burst of Plasma lets Fenix negate 75% of all damage towards him for the next 0.75 seconds. Basic attacks reduce this ability's cooldown by 1 seconds per strike. This cooldown reduction is doubled against enemy heroes.
2
Zealous Charge (W)
Cooldown: 11 seconds
Fenix prepares himself for combat. His next basic attack will allow him to charge towards a target at a medium distance with 100% increased movement speed. This ability resets on enemy hero kills, as well as every basic attack reducing its cooldown by 2.5 seconds.
3
feedback Boost (E)
Cooldown: 0.1 seconds
Cost: 20% of maximum Plasma Shield
Fenix gains 50% attack speed, 10% movement speed and 5% increased attack damage for 5 seconds. Can be cast and stacked infinitely.

Secondary Abilities

1
Dragoon Stance
The Dragoon is a ranged unit with no skills, a low amount of health, but a large amount of shield. If the shields are depleted they cannot be regenerated without creating new shield, meaning the Dragoon is very vulnerable after the first shield is destroyed.
Its damage is average, but it is a way for Fenix to continue contributing to teamfights while "holding off" the death timer for later. The body size is decently large so he can body block as well.

Heroic Abilities

1
Last Stand
Cooldown: 60 seconds
Fenix unleashes his full power by sacrificing his defensive reactions, gaining 100% attack speed and 10% movement speed when moving towards enemy heroes for 4 seconds; and Unstoppable for the first 2 seconds. While this buff is active, Fenix does not regenerate health passively and cannot regenerate new shielding.
2
Plasma Overcharge
Cost: 100% of current shields
Fenix activates his stored shields, gaining a large amount of shielding (2000 at level 20) that lasts up to 3 seconds. However, this shield is unstable, and has to be stabilized by using Fenix's psi-blades. Each basic attack towards enemy heroes increases its duration by 2 seconds until the shield reaches 14 seconds of life--then it automatically disappears. For each 1% of maximum shield that Fenix burned to cast this ability, he gains 1% additional movement speed for 4 seconds.

Special Mount

1
Chrono-Enchanced Armor
Fenix can equip his own special mount, which animation is him running at an increased speed while Chrono Boosted.

tier 1 talents

Tier 1:

| Reactive Energy - Every third basic attack Fenix lands an enemy hero grants him one stack of Block. 2 stacks maximum that wear off 3 seconds after leaving combat.

| Protector of Home - If Fenix is near allied structures, he regains 10% of his maximum Plasma Shield every second, deals 10% additional damage to enemy heroes and moves 15% faster.

| Bound by the Khala - Fenix converts shield 5% faster and receives 1% less damage from basic attacks for each nearby ally.

| Charged Striker - Each basic attack increases Fenix's attack damage by 5%, up to 25%. After 5 seconds of not attacking an enemy hero Fenix loses the stacks.

Tier 2 Talents

| Augmented Charge - Increases Zealous Charge's distance by 33% and increases the first attack's damage by 20%.

| Focused Charge - Increases Zealous Charge's first attack's damage by 80% and gains 10% attack speed for 2 seconds.

| Swift Charge - Zealous Charge becomes a blink and after striking Fenix gains 20% movement speed for 1.5 seconds.

| Feedback Charge - Increases Zealous Charge's distance by 10% and gain 10% of Fenix's maximum health as a shield that lasts up to 3 seconds.

Tier 3 Talents

| Cleaving Blade - Fenix's attacks towards enemy heroes deal 50% of said damage to all nearby enemy heroes.

| Stellar Barrier - Burst of Plasma blinds enemy heroes that are in melee range for 1 second.

| Unbridled Charger - Zealous Charge gains an extra stack.

Tier 4 Talents (heroics)

| Last Stand - Fenix unleashes his full power by sacrificing his defensive reactions, gaining 100% attack speed and 10% movement speed when moving towards enemy heroes for 4 seconds; and Unstoppable for the first 2 seconds. While this buff is active, Fenix does not regenerate health passively and cannot regenerate new shielding.

| Recharge System Overwhelm - Fenix activates his stored shields, gaining a large amount of shielding (2000 at level 20) that lasts up to 3 seconds.

Tier 5 talents

| Sunder Will - Whenever Fenix casts an ability, nearby enemy heroes attack 10% slower for 1 second. Does not stack, but the duration increases.

| Force of Unity - Nearby allied basic attacks towards enemy heroes grant Fenix 1% damage reduction for 1.5 seconds, up to 10% for 1.5 seconds.

| Relentless - Removes blinds and silences from Fenix upon cast.

Tier 6 talents

| Chrono Battery - Activate to increase movement speed by 20% for 5 seconds and remove all slowing and rooting effects. 30 seconds cooldown.

| Disrupting Barrier - Burst of Plasma leaves a small field the moment it's cast that blocks enemy movement for 2 seconds.

| Enchanced Efficency Booster - Reduces Feedback Boost's cost by 5% and while the ability is active Fenix halves the duration of all disabling effects.

| Calibrated Sharpshooter - Dragoon Mode has 30% increased range, moves 5% faster and halves the duration of disabling effects.

Tier 7 talents

| My Life For Aiur - If Fenix perishes during Last Stand, he will enter stasis for 0.5 seconds and return to life in his zealot form with 10% of his maximum health but 100% of his maximum shielding. However, if he exits combat within 7 seconds, he will perish automatically. After the 7 seconds have passed Fenix can leave combat normally.

| We Shall Prevail - Also shields all nearby allied heroes for half the amount, but for double the duration. Increases the rate at which Fenix generates Plasma Shields by 33%.

| Exoskeleton Recall - Activate this ability to immediately turn into Dragoon form and gain 10% damage reduction, 35% attack speed, 10% increased damage and 20% increased basic attack range for the rest of the duration.. If Dragoon form was activated through Exoskeleton Recall, when Fenix perishes in combat he returns to his zealot form, which then turns into the standard Dragoon if he dies. 60 seconds cooldown, resets if Fenix dies in standard Dragoon form.

| True Advantage - If the target is blinded, silenced or stunned, they receive 50% increased damage from Fenix.

Additional Notes

This Fenix is relentless, never stops, and should never stop. He is squishy, does not have a lot of health, and deals a decent amount of damage which is greatly amplified through the many buffs he gets from his slightly overloaded kit. He is completely centered around basic attacks, like a true brawler. He would shine the most from mid game onwards when his talents augment his kit even more.

I personally really liked Artanis since the recent buffs, for the reason that in order to stay alive you have to be smashing enemies with your psiblades. This take on Fenix takes that to the next level where if you don't deal damage to enemy heroes, you are heavily vulnerable. Of course the difference is that Fenix is faster and not as easily kited, which lets him play the assassin role better than Artanis.

His trait is pretty much "LET ME FIGHT". He continues to contribute to the team through bodyblocking and long ranged basic attacks that retain all buffs he had before dying. The Dragoon would very probably end up in the middle of the enemy team, and that's exactly why long ranged attacks would help if the enemy team moved around--you would still be able to snipe down the key squishies AND bodyblock with the dragoon's huge, four legged mechanical body. After he dies in Dragoon form or blows up, he will return to the death timer. This means that Fenix "borrows" time he would spend after the fight and uses it to stay alive longer. He can choose though if we wants to become a Dragoon to contribute more damage and to place another solid body after death, or if he wants to quickly start counting down the death timer in case the fight will last long enough for him to return (for example in Battlefield of Eternity, usually you can respawn and return to the objective contest).

Alright, that's my take on Fenix. Took me more hours than I would have liked, but everything for Aiur and the Khala's champion! I really hope you find it worthy of his name, and more importantly I hope you liked the idea and that this quenched a little bit your urge to see Fenix in action. Maybe a little bit, I know that's something we are still REALLY thirsty for :P

Good luck and most importantly, have fun in the Nexus!
