Rohana

Grand Preserver of the Khala

Rohana is a Preserver of the Khala, tasked with protecting the knowledge and wisdom of her people. The Khala is a psychic link between Protoss created to preserve them through calamity. Now, Rohana brings the blessing of the Khala to the Nexus to shield and guide her allies.

Rohana is a high risk, high reward support hero with several abilities that both heal allies and deal damage to enemies. Her trait, Preservation, takes advantage of this duality to prevent damage as well as she can restore health. She pairs well with teams that provide their own shields, set up wombo-combos, protect her while she is vulnerable, and chase down fleeing enemies. She will have a more difficult time dealing with enemy teams with strong single target burst, ability to dive her in the back line, or with long-range or global stuns.

Stats:
Health - 1650
Unit Radius - 0.72
Attack - Ranged: 5.5, Speed: 0.80, Damage: 85
Resource - 500 Mana

Strengths:
- AoE healing and damage
- Flexible vs. burst and sustain
- Trait helps mitigate incoming damage to team
- Good synergy with heroes with shields
- Offensive support with decent damage output

Weaknesses:
- Hard Difficulty
- Low single target healing output
- Abilities require hero targets, poor wave and camp clear
- Little CC
- Self damage and vulnerability baked into abilities

Combat Trait

1
Preservation
Allied heroes gain a shield for 4 seconds that absorbs damage equal to 20% of the overall healing received by Rohana. Whenever Rohana deals damage to an enemy hero, allied heroes near the target gain a shield for 4 seconds that absorbs damage equal to 20% of the damage dealt.

Primary Abilities

1
Intrusive Thought (Q)
Mana: 50
Cooldown: 7 seconds
Range: 5.5 units, Radius: 3 units
Place a growing bomb in another ally or enemy hero's mind that explodes after 1.5 seconds, dealing 115 (+3% per level) damage to all enemies and healing all allied heroes for 195 (+3% per level) in the blast near the target.
2
Perpetuation (W)
Mana: 60
Cooldown: 16 seconds
Range: 5.5 units, Radius: 6 units
Remove the damage absorb shield from target allied hero. Grant a shield that absorbs damage equal to 135% of the removed shield to target and all allied heroes in a large area that rapidly decays over 3 seconds.
3
Occupy (E)
Mana: 80
Cooldown: 30 seconds
Range: 7 units
Rohana leaves her body behind to occupy the mind of a nearby enemy or allied hero, leaving a psionic tether between her body and the target that deals 17 (+4% per level) damage or healing allied heroes for 10 (+4% per level) every 0.25 seconds to those who touch it. The target must be in range to start the channel but can be maintained at any range.

While channeling Occupy, Rohana gains access to new Abilities and reveals the area around the target if it is an enemy. Occupy lasts for 20 seconds and ends if the target or Rohana dies, the channel is interrupted, or Rohana uses an ability that ends Occupy.

Secondary Abilities

1
Agitate (Q - while channeling Occupy)
Mana: 20
Cooldown: 11 seconds
Radius: 3 units
Force a psychic burst from the target of Occupy, healing all nearby allied heroes for 68 (+4% per level) and slowing all nearby enemies by 20% for 2.5 seconds. If an ally has an absorb shield when healed by Agitate, they receive +50% as bonus healing and the cooldown for Agitate is reduced by 2 seconds to a minimum of 3 seconds.
2
Khala Transmission (W - while channeling Occupy)
Cooldown: 2 seconds
Rohana pulls her body with increasing telekinetic force to the location of the target of Occupy, ending the channel. When her body arrives Rohana deals 76 to 322 (+3% damage per level) damage stunning affected targets for 0.25 to 1.25 seconds and heals other allies for 86 to 360 (+3% damage) health in an area around her, increasing in potency and radius the further her body traveled.

Rohana takes a percentage of maximum health as damage if Khala Transmission is cast at long distances indicated by the color of Occupy's tether.

[About 5% of Rohana's maximum health at sight range and up to 99% at very long ranges. The damage dealt to Rohana this way cannot kill her but can leave her with 1% health even at moderate distances if she were not at full health when cast.]
3
Abandon (E - while channeling Occupy)
End Occupy and regain control of Rohana.
4
Maintain Focus (1 - while channeling Occupy)
Cooldown: 8 seconds
Increase the duration of Occupy by 10 seconds but lose 10% of Rohana's maximum health. Maintain focus cannot be cast if Rohana has 10% or less of her maximum health remaining.

Heroic Abilities

1
Unity (R)
Mana: 80
Cooldown: 60 seconds
Range: 7 units
Send forward a link to the Khala, creating a binding and healing the first allied hero hit for 136 (+4% per level). For 3 seconds after hitting an ally, Unity can be reactivated to launch to an additional ally from the last bound ally, adding them to the binding and healing them. This can be repeated until Unity is recast and fails to add another ally, which then causes all heroes part of the bindings to instantly redistribute their health to equalize to the same maximum health percentage.

Can be cast while channeling Occupy if the target of Occupy is an ally.
2
Mothership Core (R)
Mana: 80
Cooldown: 100 seconds
Range: 5 units, Radius: 4 units
Summon a Mothership core onto the battlefield with 1250 (+4% per level) health for 5 seconds that moves slowly in the target direction. The Mothership Core pulses every 0.25 seconds granting all allied heroes in range stealth for 1 second.

FAQs

Occupy has a lot of words, how does this ability work?

The description for Occupy is wordy, but if you are familiar of how Abathur's Symbiote ability works it will be familiar. Mechanically, Occupy creates an invisible "Symbiote" above a hero's head, anchors the game camera to that hero, and replaces your basic abilities with new abilities that when activated target the area around that hero. Unlike Symbiote, Occupy can be cast on enemy as well as allied heroes, is a channeled ability (so it will end if Rohana is interrupted), has a limited range to initiate instead of being global baseline, is limited in duration, and a tether is created between Rohana and her Occupy target.

What is the tether?

Simply put, the tether is a beam between Rohana and her Occupy target that deals damage to enemies or heals allies who touch it. It does not heal Rohana or deal damage to her target. It does not slow like Probius's Null Gate, so you will get the most effect from it in teams with a lot of slows, roots, or stuns.

As well as an indicator to allow the enemy team to know roughly where Rohana is channeling, the tether also serves as a visual element to estimate how much damage you can expect to take if you cast Khala Transmission. The tether will change color based on the distance between Rohana and her target, green or blue when close, changing to yellow at moderate distances, and red at very long distances. You can expect to take more damage the further into the warmer color spectrum tether has.

Why does Agitate, the Q ability during Occupy, not deal any damage to enemies? Isn't dealing damage and healing on the same ability sort of her deal?

Yes, most of Rohana's abilities both deal damage and heal, but Agitate does not deal damage out of necessity. I felt that a long duration, pseduo-global non-heroic ability consistently dealing damage, interrupting objective channels, and dismounting a player without reasonable counter-play was not fun. First and foremost, Rohana is a support hero and the fantasy of playing support is to change the tide of team fights with your skillful input. With this in mind, Agitate was created to be effective in team fights and perhaps a slight annoyance outside fights, similar to Leoric's skeletal swing while dead.

The design of Agitate encourages coordination with teammates. The dream is to cast Occupy on a front-line ally or enemy while your team has shields created by you--or they run into the tether to gain shields--and group up to activate Agitate's cooldown reduction, constantly slowing the enemy team while healing your team. The cooldown reduction can be more reliable with the Quick Quips talent. The slow can be very impactful, allowing your ally with Occupy to position herself to maximize the tether's damage, or in combination with setups from Grav-O-Bomb 3000, Mosh Pit or Graviton Surge. You can take talents in order to make Occupy more of an offensive powerhouse, with Press Q to Shame being the cornerstone to that build.

Can Perpetuation be used on other players' shields, like Zarya's Personal Barrier or Fenix's Shield Capacitor?

Yes, but be careful because doing so makes the shield becomes owned by Rohana and affected by her talents when she places the shield back on these heroes. This means Zarya will not gain energy from Rohana removing the shield nor when enemies attack her new shield, and Fenix will lose bonuses from talents like Dampening Field and Photonic Weaponry as well as losing ~40% of his effective health over 3 seconds, or 4 with the reward from Rohana's Barrier Mastery.

No Cleanse?

Rohana offers a lot to the team without a straight-forward Cleanse, including damage prevention with shields. That being said, she has a skillful cleanse-like ability in the talent Inception. The silence and unstoppable effect only get applied to the target of Occupy, and only if they were targeted by Intrusive Thought. Because the delay to the unstoppable is 2 seconds after pressing Q, using Inception as a cleanse will take a fair amount of game sense and planning, or be used for more telegraphed abilities.

I love it. We need a protoss healer and she fits perfectly. Although, one question. Does the unity always cast from Rohana or from the last bound ally?

From the last bound ally, like infinite Kel'Thuzad chains only no pull and you can keep casting until you miss. Cooldown may need to be adjusted to balance the skill requirement.
