One of the first five paladins of the Order of the Silver Hand, along with Uther the Lightbringer, Saidan Dathrohan, Tirion Fordring, and Gavinrad the Dire, Turalyon was previously a priest of the Church of the Holy Light rather than a knight. Serving the Alliance of Lordaeron army with distinction, during and immediately after the Second War, he was second in command to Supreme Commander Anduin Lothar. During the siege of Blackrock Spire, after Lothar was struck down in combat against Warchief Orgrim Doomhammer, it was General Turalyon who picked up his mentor's battle standard and broken sword. He then rallied the Alliance army to victory over the Orcish Horde, capturing Orgrim and driving the orcs back to the Dark Portal. As the Lion's lieutenant, Turalyon was named Lothar's successor as Supreme Commander by the monarchs of the Seven Kingdoms.
