Zagara - Rework Concept

Broodmother of the Swarm

Zagara, the Broodmother of the Swarm, is a Ranged Assassin Hero from the StarCraft universe. If Kerrigan is the Queen of the Zerg, then Zagara is the mother of the brood. Cunning and tenacious, she commands her vicious children on the field of battle. Encounter her brood and beware: mess with her children, and you'll answer to mama.

Zagara is a powerful global Summoner who provides Vision for her team and uses a variety of Zerg Summons to wreak havoc upon her enemies.

Author's Note:
Zagara has been falling off from the meta lately especially with her outdated kit. I think her problem stems from the fact that she either relies too much on her Creep or too much on her Summons which she can't control. She's been nerfed over and over again due to, in my opinion, her Summons doing "free damage" without her having to risk her life. She is also very mana hungry and has no way of self-sustaining herself before very well into the late mid-game which is weird considering that she is a Solo Laner. The only way for her to have self-sustain is to take Nydus, but then her team fight abilities suffer without Devouring Maw and you can't buff Nydus because of its universal CDR. Also, she relies way too heavily on Corrosive Saliva and Bile Drop to be effective which means those 2 talents would dominate their tiers and won't allow for a lot of builds.

So, in this rework, I plan to change that by introducing new talents for Zagara so that she can be less tied by Bile Drop and Corrosive Saliva. I do this by introducing a baseline quest (I like to introduce baseline quests for heroes lol) that can allow her to ramp up her damage and eventually get additional charges on her Basic Abilities which free her from dependence on Bile Drop. On top of that, I tried to give her more reliable damage by allowing her to fixate her Summons on a specific target as well as restricting her to have to be present near them to empower them to avoid her being a broken "Leave it and be done with it" type of hero. Also, since Nydus Worm is so fun, I thought I would make it her baseline mount and make her a Global Summoner. Of course, the CDR part of it is made to only apply to Nydus Worm and it no longer gives Creep benefits.

I also tried to give her new build pathways, specifically the following 3;
1. W/E-Teamfight Build where she focuses on empowering her Hydralisk and Roaches to help her team fight capabilities. This one I think will be the most similar to the old meta Zagara with Corrosive Saliva eventually being unlocked.
2. Creep/AA Build where she focuses on empowering her own Basic Attacks and Creep spreading to make her less reliant on her Summons. I have also introduced some talents that would make her Creep spreading easier.
3. Q-Split Push Build where Zagara becomes a split push machine with her Q. She can use this in conjunction with her Nydus worms to put global pressure on the map. This build focuses more on PvE.

Combat Trait

D - Creep Tumor
Cooldown: 12 seconds

Lay down a Creep Tumor upon the ground. Creep Tumors spread Creep that gives Vision and lasts for 120 seconds. While on Creep, Zagara and her Summons gains 20% Movement Speed and Attack Speed. Stores up to 2 charges.

Broodmother's Conquest
❢ Quest: Damage enemy Heroes with Zagara's Summons 250 times.
❢ Reward: After damaging enemy Heroes 75 times with Zagara's Summons, gain 20% Attack Speed.
❢ Reward: After damaging enemy Heroes 150 times with Zagara's Summons, gain 30% Attack Damage.
❢ Reward: After damaging enemy Heroes 250 times with Zagara's Summons, gain 1 additional Charge of Baneling Barrage, Hunter Killer, and Infested Drop.

Primary Abilities

Q - Baneling Barrage
Cooldown: 3 seconds
Mana: 15

Launch a single Baneling forward that explodes upon impacting the first enemy it hits and dealing 82 (+4%) damage in an area. Stores up to 4 charges. Banelings deal 25% less damage against Structures.

W - Hunter Killer
Cooldown: 10 seconds
Mana: 75

Summon a Hydralisk that lasts for 6 seconds to attack a target and dealing 69 (+4%) damage to them. If the target is an enemy Hero, Zagara can Basic Attack them to cause nearby Summons to fixate on that Hero until the Hydralisk is killed or expires.

Hydralisk has 350 (+3.5%) Health, an Attack Speed of 1.25, and an Attack Range of 5.5.

Hydralisk will despawn if Zagara moves too far away from it.

E - Infested Drop
Cooldown: 12 seconds
Mana: 80

Call down a sac of reinforcements that impacts the ground after 1 second, dealing 120 (+4%) damage and releasing 2 Roaches. Roaches lasts for 6 seconds and attack nearby enemies, dealing 32 (+4%) damage.

Roaches have 480 (+3.5%) health, an Attack Speed of 0.95, and an Attack Range of 4.5.

Roaches will despawn if Zagara moves too far away from it.

Heroic Abilities

R1 - Devouring Maw
Cooldown: 75 seconds
Mana: 70
Summon a Devouring Maw that, after 1.25 seconds, devours enemies for 4 seconds. Devoured enemies cannot fight and take 85 (+4%) damage per second. Usable on Unstoppable enemies.

R2 - Mass Frenzy
Cooldown: 60 seconds
Mana: 70
Activate to send Zagara and her children into a crazed frenzy, granting Zagara and her nearby Summons 20% Attack Speed and 10% Movement Speed for 8 seconds, but her Summons' take 15% more damage.
Passive: Roaches, Hydralisks, and Mutalisks explode upon dying or expiring, dealing 104 (+4%) damage to nearby enemies

Special Mount

Z - Nydus Network
Cooldown: 120 seconds

Zagara cannot use a regular Mount. Instead, she calls upon a Nydus Worm on Creep anywhere on the Battlefield. Zagara can enter the Nydus Worm after 3 seconds and emerge from other Nydus Worms. This cannot be interrupted by receiving damage. After using a Nydus Worm, Zagara cannot use the same Nydus Worm again for 50 seconds.

Basic Attacks by Zagara and her Summons against enemy Heroes reduce Nydus Network's Cooldown by 1 second. Stores up to 2 charges. Only a maximum of 2 Nydus Worms may be active at a time. Zagara and her enemies can destroy the Nydus Worm by attacking them. Upon reaching Level 10, increase the maximum number of active Nydus Worm to 4.

Level 1

Q - Baneling Massacre
Increase the number of Baneling Barrage's maximum Charge by 2. Banelings deal 30% more damage to Minions and Mercenaries.

E - Birthing Chamber
Increase the impact radius of Infested Drop by 20%.
? Quest: Hit enemy Heroes with the initial impact of Infested Drop 30 times.
? Reward: Upon hitting 15 enemy Heroes, increase Infested Drop's initial drop damage by 25%
? Reward: Upon hitting 30 enemy Heroes, increase Infested Drop's Roaches spawned by 1

AA - Medusa Blades
Zagara's Basic Attacks split to hit 2 additional nearby targets, dealing 50% damage.

Level 4

W/E - Brood Transfusion
Each time Zagara's Summons attacks an enemy, Zagara is healed for 1% of her maximum Health and gains 2 (+4%) Mana.

D/AA - Broodmother Reconstitution
While on Creep, Zagara gains 50% increased Mana Regeneration and her Basic Attacks against enemy Heroes heal her for 30% of the damage dealt.

Passive - Forced Adaptation
Zagara gains 2 Armor for 2 seconds every time she receives damage or every time her Summons deal damage to enemy Heroes, up to a maximum of 20 Armor. If Zagara loses more than 14% of her life within 1 second, heals for 286 (+4%) Health over 4 seconds. This effect has a 30 second cooldown.

Level 7

W/E - Leviathan Strain
Increase the maximum Health of Zagara's Summons by 30%. Roaches' Basic Attacks Slows enemies by 10% for 1 second.

D - Malignant Creep
Basic Attacks against Heroes lower the Cooldown of Creep Tumor by 1 second. Increase the radius of Creep generated by Creep Tumors by 20% and Creep spreads faster.

Active - Baneling Nest
Cooldown: 60 seconds
Plant down a Baneling Nest that periodically spawns a single Baneling every 15 seconds. Banelings spawned this way will travel to the nearest lane. Baneling Nests last indefinitely, but only 1 Baneling Nest may be active at a time. After 15 seconds, this ability can be reactivated to cast an untalented Baneling Barrage from the Baneling Nest, immediately killing it.

Level 10

R1 - Devouring Maw

Level 13

Q - Regenerative Acid
Upon exploding, Banelings heal nearby Minions and Mercenaries for 16 (+4%) Health per second for 4 seconds.

W - Mutalisk Strain
Reduce the Cooldown of Hunter Killer by 4 seconds and now spawns a Mutalisk which can fly over terrains, have attacks that bounce to 2 additional enemies each dealing 33% damage and lasts for an additional 3 seconds.

E/D - Cancerous Growth
Upon impact, Infested Drop plants down a Creep Tumor and a small area of Creep. Additionally, Creep Tumors lasts 100% longer and can regenerate Health upon not taking damage for 2 seconds.

Level 16

Q - Hunter Strain
Banelings can jump over terrains. If these Banelings explode within 1.5 seconds of jumping over a terrain, they deal an additional 98 (+4%) damage.

W/E - Corrosive Saliva
Hydralisk or Mutalisk deals additional damage equal to 1% of enemy Heroes' maximum Health. Roaches deal additional damage equal to 0.5% of enemy Heroes' maximum Health.

AA - Venomous Serration
Every 8 Basic Attacks, Zagara deals an additional 180 (+4%) damage over 4 seconds to enemies.
? Quest: Basic Attack enemy Heroes
? Reward: Every 20 Basic Attacks, increase Venomous Serration's additional damage by 5%.

Level 20

R1 - Tyrant Maw
Casting Devouring Maw resets Zagara's Basic Abilities and it deals 50% more damage. Takedowns reduce its cooldown to 10 seconds.

R2 - Scourge Queen
Zagara's Summons no longer has a duration, but only 4 Roaches and 2 Hydralisks or Mutalisk may be active at a time. While Mass Frenzy is active, Zagara's Summons no longer take additional damage. Additionally, every time her Summons damage an enemy Hero, Mass Frenzy's Cooldown is reduced by 2 seconds.

AA/E - Darken the Skies
Reduces the Cooldown of Infested Drop by 5 seconds and every 12 Basic Attacks, Zagara casts a free Infested Drop at the nearest enemy Hero.

Z/D - Endless Creep
Increase the maximum number of active Nydus Worms by 1 and Nydus Worms no longer have a Usage Cooldown. Additionally, the cast Range of Creep Tumor is increased by 2000% and they last 100% longer. Zagara gains an additional 10% Attack Speed while on Creep.
