High Sage of the Arakkoa

Disclaimer: There is absolutely no artwork of High Sage Zelkyr as far as I can tell, so the image used is actually High Sage Viryx. Zelkyr has a different feather color, teal with yellow tips, but otherwise his outfit should be similar, seeing as how both are High Sages of the Adherents of Rukhmar.

High Sage Zelkyr is a ruthless ranged assassin who uses extra vision and mobility to pick only the best fights for himself, dealing more damage and disabling enemies in close range.

Author's Note: This concept is for the CDC#5, a community based design contest organized by the wonderful Bliztron which you can check out over here. The theme is characters who starred exclusively in Blizzard short stories, and High Sage Zelkyr is a character who featured in the Warcraft short story Apocrypha, which you can read here.

For a TL;DR on Zelkyr's character, he is a ruthless and manipulative leader who cares only for the existence of his power structure and society. He has only contempt for any other race, the Outcast arakkoa, or even any high arakkoa who do not conform to his ways. He's kind of like if Alarak was an arakkoa instead.

Combat Trait

Eyes of the Kaliri

Zelkyr commands a Kaliri to watch over a target area for up to 45 seconds, granting his team vision. Kaliri will alternate between flying circles around the target area and perching on any terrain nearby. They also appear inconspicuous to enemies, but 1 basic attack from an enemy hero will cause the Kaliri to retreat and stop watching over the area.

Additionally, Zelkyr can use his mount ability Wings of the Arakkoa to fly to any location currently under watch by a Kaliri from this ability.

Appearing inconspicuous means that Kaliri appear as a non-interactive map element until moused over, which will then highlight them as an enemy that can be attacked.

Primary Abilities

Cruel Lash
Cooldown: 7 seconds
Cost: 30 Mana

Zelkyr dashes to a target location within a short range, then lashes with the ceremonial whip Rukhmar's Tail in a target direction. The first enemy hit takes 222 (+4% per level) damage and has the duration of Wing Clip and Rukhmar's Condemnation extended on them by 1 second.

Zelkyr's basic attacks in melee range reduce the cooldown of Cruel Lash by 1 second.

Cruel Lash is targeted using vector targeting, with the dash location determined by the start of the vector and the attack's direction determined by the vector's direction.

Wing Clip
Cooldown: 14 seconds
Cost: 60 Mana

Zelkyr performs a ritual exile on a target enemy in melee range, channeling for 1 second during which the target is Stunned and Zelkyr's Armor is reduced by 10. When prepared, he performs a vicious strike with the Talon of Rukhmar, dealing 384 (+4% per level) damage and Crippling his target for 2.5 seconds, preventing them from using abilities that move their hero.

Wing Clip's channel can be interrupted by a Stun, Silence, Stasis, Time Stop, or displacement effect, and if this occurs it is placed on a 3 second cooldown.

Rukhmar's Condemnation
Cooldown: 11 seconds
Cost: 50 Mana

Zelkyr unleashes a flash of flame in a narrow cone, dealing 168 (+4% per level) damage to all enemies hit. Additionally, targets are lit on fire for 2.5 seconds, taking 36 (+4% per level) damage every 0.5 seconds (for 180 (+4% per level) total damage plus 72 (+4% per level) when struck by Cruel Lash).

Heroic Abilities

Wrath of the Sun God
Cooldown: 110 seconds
Cost: 80 Mana

After a 1.5 second channel, Zelkyr ascends to the sky for up to 12 seconds, gaining vision of a large area around his casting location. During this time, he gains 3 fire blasts he can target anywhere in this area, dealing 256 (+4% per level) damage to enemies in a medium area after a 0.75 second delay and Blinding them for 1 second.

After casting all shots, Zelkyr can select a landing location within range to land early. Letting the 12 second duration run out causes him to land at the original casting location. Wrath of the Sun God's channel can be interrupted by a Stun, Silence, Stasis, Time Stop, or displacement effect, and if this occurs it is placed on a 10 second cooldown.

The area of effect of each fireball is equal to that of a normal Kael'thas Flamestrike without Verdant Spheres enhancement.

Skyreach's Watch
Cooldown: 40 seconds
Cost: N/A

Zelkyr secretly commands a Kaliri to follow a target enemy hero for up to 20 seconds. The Kaliri acts as one summoned by Eyes of the Kaliri would, and can be flown to using Zelkyr's mount ability Wings of the Arakkoa.

Passive:
Activating Wings of the Arakkoa also summons 2 Bladetalons to Zelkyr's side for up to 10 seconds upon arrival. Bladetalons have 760 (+4% per level) health, deal 28 (+4% per level) damage with 1.88 attacks per second in melee range, and move quickly to keep up with Zelkyr's targets.

Wings of the Arakkoa
Passive:
Zelkyr does not find it fitting to ride a lesser creature into battle. Instead, after not taking or dealing damage for 6 seconds, Zelkyr begins flying low above the ground, receiving 20% increased movement speed. Additionally, he can activate his mount to quickly fly to a target location watched by a Kaliri.

Cooldown: 60 seconds
Cost: N/A

Zelkyr quickly flies to a target location under watch by a Kaliri after a 2 second channel. Zelkyr must be receiving movement speed from this ability's passive to activate.

Talents

Tier 1


Fierce Flames -
Quest: Reduce Cruel Lash's cooldown with basic attacks in melee range.
Reward: After reducing Cruel Lash's cooldown by 35 seconds total, basic attacks in melee range also reduce the cooldown of Rukhmar's Condemnation by 1 second.
Reward: After reducing Cruel Lash's cooldown by 70 seconds total, Zelkyr also pulses with fire while casting Cruel Lash, dealing 38 (+4% per level) damage to all enemies near his casting and dash location (can hit enemies twice).

Glorious Recovery - Rukhmar's Condemnation heals Zelkyr for 30% of the damage it deals to heroes and 5% of the damage it deals to non-heroes.
Swift Judgement - Earning a takedown within 10 seconds of activating Wings of the Arakkoa reduces its cooldown by 40 seconds.
Repeatable Quest: Each time this effect activates, Zelkyr permanently receives 2% increased basic attack damage.

Tier 2


Radiance - While Wings of the Arakkoa's passive is active, non-heroic enemies will not attack Zelkyr and his life regeneration is increased by 200%.
First Strike - While Wings of the Arakkoa's passive is active, Zelkyr's first basic attack that breaks this effect deals 150% more damage.
Shake It Off - While Wings of the Arakkoa's passive is active, the first instance of damage that breaks this effect is completely prevented. Zelkyr also gains 10 Armor for 2.5 seconds after the passive is broken.

Tier 3


Spiteful Lashes - If Cruel Lash extends the duration of exactly one effect, its cooldown is reduced to 5 seconds.
Intense Burns - Ruhkmar's Condemnation's damage over time is increased by 25% on enemies within the first 25% of it's length (for 225 (+4% per level) total damage plus 90 (+4% per level) when struck by Cruel Lash).
Unworthy - Enemies affected by Ruhkmar's Condemnation deal 25% less damage to Zelkyr, increased to 90% if they are non-heroic.

Tier 4


Wrath of the Sun God - See above.
Skyreach's Watch - See above.

Tier 5


Flamefeather Kaliri - If a Kaliri is attacked by an enemy hero, it will dive attack them, Revealing them for 6 seconds and dealing 209 (+4% per level) damage over the duration. While they are Revealed, Wings of the Arakkoa's active can target them.
Sharpeye Kaliri - Kaliri have their vision range increased by 20% and all enemies in their vision range have their Armor reduced by 5.
Cloudwing Kaliri - Kaliri now take 3 basic attacks to defeat. If there is only one Kaliri active on the battlefield, its duration cannot run out until another is summoned.

Tier 6


Boundless Cruelty - Zelkyr deals 20% more damage to enemy heroes affected by a Root, Silence, Blind, or Cripple.
Triple Lash - Cruel Lash will also hit 2 enemies near its target, dealing 111 (+4% per level) damage and applying all other effects. If there are no other enemies in range, this instead increases Cruel Lash's damage by 55 (+4% per level) per extra strike on the initial target.
Respect the Ritual! - Zelkyr is Protected and Unstoppable while channeling Wing Clip. Its Armor reduction is then applied to him as long as his target remains Crippled.

Tier 7


Solar Barrage - Each enemy hit by Wrath of the Sun God's fireballs increases the radius of all remaining fireballs by 25%.
Aviary of Skyreach - Eyes of the Kaliri gains an extra charge. Skyreach's Watch can now be used while on cooldown if Eyes of the Kaliri has any charges available, consuming a charge instead.
Rapid Takeoff - Wings of the Arakkoa's passive now activates after 3.5 seconds of not taking or dealing damage.
Fury of the Sun - Zelkyr's basic attack range is increased by 1.1. Additionally, his basic attack speed is increased proportionally to how close he is to his target, from 0% at maximum range to 40% at melee range.

Default: High Sage of the Arakkoa
From his position as the leader of the Adherents of Rukhmar, High Sage Zelkyr rules over the high arakkoa with an iron talon. Now, he turns his fiery wrath to the Nexus to bring Rukhmar's glory to the heathens within.
Description:
Based on Zelkyr's appearance in the story Apocrypha. Has teal feathers with yellow tips, and radiant orange robes that glow with magic.
Tints:
Default. Teal feathers with yellow tips, orange robes.
Viryx. White feathers, purple and grey robes.
Iskar. Purple feathers, dark blue robes.

Legendary: Outcast
Once the leader of the Adherents of Rukhmar, Zelkyr found himself Outcast like he had done to so many others. Though the tables had turned, Zelkyr did not wallow in his misfortune; forsaking Rukhmar, he turned to the raven god Anzu and began planning his revenge.
Description:
Based on an Outcast arakkoa, hunched with crippled wings; uses a new skeleton/animations similar to Prime Evil Diablo vs Default Diablo. All abilities have new animations: Kaliri now have dark purple feathers instead of bright red; basic attacks, Cruel Lash, Rukhmar's Condemnation, and Wrath of the Sun God now uses a purple shadowflame instead of bright orange flame; Wing Clip's weapon is now a makeshift scythe adorned with feathers and charms; Skyreach's Watch Bladetalons are now Outcast arakkoa instead; Wings of the Arakkoa now has Zelkyr dissipate into smoke and appear at the target location instead of flying. Unique voice acting: more squawking like the Outcast arakkoa tend to do, references Anzu often instead of Rukhmar.
Tints:
Default. Teal feathers with yellow tips, orange robes.
Ikiss. Orange feathers, grey robes. Also has a mask.
Reshad. Red feathers, purple and gold robes. Less elaborate robes.

Epic: Sage of the Seven Seas
Zelkyr and his pirate crew sail their mighty ship Rukhmar's Glory over the seas, plundering as they please. Unfortunately, their reckless ways have earned them a rivalry with Captain Falstad and his crew.
Description:
Parrot arakkoa with a pirate captain's hat, one hook hand, and an eyepatch. Kaliri are also parrots, with feathers matching Zelkyr's current skin tint. Skyreach's Watch Bladetalons are also parrot/pirate arakkoa, but with bandanas on their head instead of a full hat. Slight animation change, Wing Clip uses Zelkyr's hook hand. Unique voice acting: pirate themed lines.
Tints:
Default. Mostly red feathers with some yellow, green, and blue. Dark blue pirate coat, black hat.
Classic. Teal feathers with yellow tips. Orange pirate coat, red hat.
Seagull. White feathers with grey-blue tips. Black pirate coat, dark blue hat.

Epic: Heavy Metal Zelkyr
A fresh member of ETC's band, Zelkyr is known for his merciless guitar soloes.
Description:
Zelkyr, but if he were in a metal band. Leather jacket, ripped denim pants, spiky belt. Cruel Lash now uses a chain; Wing Clip's weapon is an axe guitar similar to ETC's; Rukhmar's Condemnation animation is Zelkyr playing a short guitar riff and setting the area in front of him on fire. Unique voice acting: lines themed after ETC's speech, lots of guitar sound effects.
Tints:
Default. Brown feathers, black jacket, dark blue pants.
Classic. Teal feathers with yellow tips, orange jacket, black pants.
Hair metal. Bright yellow feathers, leopard print jacket, purple pants.

Rare: Talon King
*This skin assumes Terokk won't be added to the game; if he is, it'd have too much overlap and wouldn't be added*
Even though the Talon King was overthrown by the Adherents of Rukhmar, Zelkyr still finds value in battle armor matching Terokk's style.
Description:
Similar to base skin, but outfit is changed to match Terokk's battle armor instead of Zelkyr's robes. Plated armor with large spiked shoulders, and a tabard over the breastplate.
Tints:
Default. Teal feathers with yellow tips, orange armor.
Terokk. Red feathers with purple tips, red armor.

Rare: Ceremonial Garb
When performing rituals, Zelkyr dons his intimidating and regal armor to remind his subjects of Rukhmar's glory.
Description:
Similar to base skin, but outfit is changed to match his ceremonial armor as described in Apocrypha. Bands of sharp edged silver armor with a crown of jagged metal shaped like elongated talons.
Tints:
Default. Teal feathers with yellow tips, silver armor.
Radiant. White feathers, gold armor.
Ancient. Black feathers, copper armor.

Start of game, positive: "Ah, a worthy servant for Rukhmar. Let us fight for her glory."
Start of game, negative: "You're the best this realm has to offer? Well, as long as your sacrifice pleases Rukhmar..."
