Baal

Lord of Destruction

Tor'Baalos, the Lord of Destruction, is the middle of his Prime Evil brethren. After obtaining the Soulstone, Baal and his legion of demons stormed Mount Arreat, successfully corrupting the Worldstone, causing its eventual obliteration, even if it meant his own defeat. Now in the Nexus, he will sow the same seeds of Chaos and Destruction that caused the near destruction of the world...

Baal is a versatile Ranged Assassin, focused on damage windows set up by his trait: Lord of Destruction

Primarily a combo-centric Hero, Baal focuses on dealing delayed damage, using his trait to stack up the damage he inflicts over a period to be instantly enacted with a large bonus after a short period of time.

Baal prefers to be on the outskirts of combat. His Q ability: Calamity is best used at range, to allow him to channel it for as long as possible, in order to achieve the highest possible bonus damage. Enemies such as Zeratul or Li-Ming as stationary targets such as Baal as he is channeling are weak to heroes with high burst.

When close to enemies, Baal's W ability: Hoarfrost can be used to push them back, damaging and applying a Slow in the process. This abilities damage and Slow are scaled based on how close Baal is to the enemies he hits, making it the perfect follow up to a fully channelled Calamity.

Baal's E ability: Doomsday is a smaller, area-based version of his trait. Baal can use this to spread the damage dealt to a single target to an area around them. This allows for set-up with grouping abilities, such as using Zarya's Graviton Surge to deal massive damage to a group of enemies instead of just a single target. As well as this, any AOE damage dealt, such as with Hoarfrost, has the opportunity to double hit enemies, where they are hit with the initial attack, as well as by the AOE from Doomsday's explosion, dealing double the damage that was originally possible.

Baal's two Ultimate abilities; Shard of Destruction and The Black Abyss are both based on team fights, with the former being a more team-based, global ability, that benefits your allies damage as well as your own, whereas the latter is more used as a single-target deterrent for Heroes with low cooldowns from spamming their abilities, or to suppress potentially fight winning abilities from high-damage Heroes.

Active:
Cooldown: 20 seconds

Baal coalesces the power within the shattered Soulstone to send out a miasma of doom, causing all damage by Baal to a target enemy Hero to be prevented and accumulated over the next 6 seconds. Once this effect ends, all accumulated damage is inflicted, with its damage being increased by 25%.

Lord of Destruction does not prevent status effects such as Slow or Stun, only the damage from the ability.

Cost: 40 Mana
Cooldown: 7 seconds

Baal sends forth a swirling bolt of destruction that deals 146 (+4% per level) damage to the first enemy hero hit. Baal can additionally channel for up to 2.5 seconds to deal 214 (+4% per level) bonus damage depending on how long the channel lasted.

(W) Hoarfrost
Cost: 45 Mana
Cooldown: 8 seconds

A cone of ice shards erupt in an arc from Baal's location, moving forward over 0.5 seconds, dealing 114 (+4% per level) damage and knocking enemies back, Slowing them by 30% for 1.5 seconds. Enemies closer to Baal are knocked back further, and the damage and Slow duration increase the further enemies are knocked back, up to a maximum of 100%.

(E) Doomsday
Cost: 60 Mana
Cooldown: 14 seconds

Conjure a seed of doubt that travels in the target direction, embedding itself in the first enemy Hero hit, dealing 48 (+4% per level) damage. The seed accumulates all damage Baal does to the enemy for the next 4 seconds. When the seed expires, it explodes, dealing damage equal to 100% of the accumulated damage to all nearby enemies.

If the target is also affected by Lord of Destruction when the seed expires, the seed's area damage will still occur, with its damage amplified by Lord of Destruction.

Cooldown: 30 seconds

Active: Activate to cause a tentacle to erupt from the ground at a targeted location. The tentacle deals 56 (+4% per level) damage per second to a nearby enemy, prioritizing Heroes. If attacking an enemy affected by Lord of Destruction, the tentacle is driven to a frenzy, causing it to deal an additional 75% damage to the marked Hero, with a 100% increased Attack Speed.

Festering Appendages last for 6 seconds and have 3 charges, with a 6-second cooldown between uses.

Heroic Abilities

Cost: 80 Mana
Cooldown: 120 seconds

Baal channels for 1.25 seconds to inflict an empowered Lord of Destruction on all enemy Heroes. Shard of Destruction accumulates damage from all sources instead of just Baal's, but only lasts for 3 seconds.

The empowered Lord of Destruction does not stack with the Trait's version and instead overwrites it.

Cost: 60 Mana
Cooldown: 50 seconds

Curse an enemy Hero for 4 seconds, causing them to take damage equal to 5% of their Maximum Health whenever they use an ability.

(Q) Unacceptable Terms

(?) Quest: Hit 10 enemy Heroes with Calamity's Maximum bonus damage.

(?) Reward: Casting Lord of Destruction causes your next Calamity to be an instant cast with an additional 25% bonus damage.
(W) Chilling Touch

(?) Quest: Knock back 15 enemy Heroes the maximum distance with Hoarfrost.

(?) Reward: Casting Lord of Destruction increases the Slow of your next Hoarfrost by an additional 15%. Enemies knocked back the maximum distance are instead Rooted for 2 seconds.
(E) End Times

(?) Quest: Hit 2 enemy Heroes with a single detonation of Doomsday 5 times.

(?) Reward: Casting Lord of Destruction causes your next Doomsday to detonate an additional time 1.5 seconds before the seed expires.



(E) Perpetual Agony

Dealing 350 (+4% per level) damage to enemy Heroes affected by Doomsday extends its duration by 2 seconds. This effect can only occur twice per cast.
(Trait/D) Enough!

Casting Lord of Destruction causes Baal's next 2 Basic Abilities cast to have their cooldowns refresh 200% faster. This effect does not stack.
(Passive) Essence of Hatred

Dealing damage to enemy Heroes with Basic Abilities reduces Baal's Basic Ability cooldowns by 0.3 seconds per Hero hit.



(W) Frostbound Flesh

Hoarfrost grants allied Heroes hit by it a shield that absorbs 300 (+4% per level) damage for 2.5 seconds. The duration of the Shield increases the closer allies are to Baal, up to 100%.
(Trait/D) Sapped Strength

When Lord of Destruction expires, Baal gains 1 Armor for 5 seconds for every percentage of Health the target enemy Hero is missing. This effect does not trigger on defeated enemy Heroes.
(Passive) Essence of Terror

Baal gains 0.4% additional maximum Health for 4 seconds for each minion kill, and 4% for Hero kills, up to a maximum of 20%. Every additional application increases the duration by 4 seconds, up to a maximum of 24 seconds.



(R) Shard of Destruction

Baal channels for 1.25 seconds to inflict an Empowered Lord of Destruction on all enemy Heroes. Shard of Destruction accumulates damage from all sources instead of just Baal's, but only lasts for 3 seconds.
(R) The Black Abyss

Curse an enemy Hero for 6 seconds, causing them to take damage equal to 5% of their Maximum Health whenever they use an ability.



(Q) Desolate

After hitting an enemy with Calamity, if there are no enemy Heroes near them, they are Slowed by 60%, decaying over 3 seconds.
(E) Cataclysmic Force

Hitting an enemy Hero affected by Lord of Destruction with Doomsday causes a shockwave to erupt between Baal and the affected Hero, dealing 102 (+4% per level) damage and Slowing enemies between them by 30% for 2 seconds.
(E) Extinguish Hope

Enemy Heroes have their healing received reduced by 30% whilst affected by Doomsday. Enemy Heroes hit by Doomsday's explosion have their healing received reduced by 20% for 4 seconds. If Doomsday's explosion fails to hit any enemy Heroes, the affected Hero has their healing received reduced by 30% for a further 4 seconds.


(Q/W) Shattered Souls

Damaging an enemy with Calamity within 3 seconds of being knocked back with Hoarfrost separates the enemy's soul from their body. Enemies must collect their separated souls to regain them and remove all effects.

Whilst an enemy's soul is separated, they take damage equal to 2% of their maximum Health per second and Lord of Destruction's cooldown refreshes 25% faster. These effects do not stack.
(Trait/D) Ravager

Whilst Lord of Destruction is active, Baal's Basic Attack becomes a long-ranged channelled beam that deals 50% less damage, but deals damage every .25 seconds.

Channelling Ravager against enemy Heroes affected by Lord of Destruction increases Baal's Spell Power by 3% per second, to a maximum of 15%. This bonus is lost after 5 seconds of not channelling.
(Active) Festering Appendages

Active: Activate to cause a tentacle to erupt from the ground at a targeted location. The tentacle deals 56 (+4% per level) damage per second to a nearby enemy, prioritizing Heroes. If attacking an enemy affected by Lord of Destruction, the tentacle is driven to a frenzy, causing it to deal an additional 75% damage to the marked Hero, with a 100% increased Attack Speed.



(R) Total Annihilation

Every second, accumulate 20% of all the damage dealt to enemy Heroes affected by Shard of Destruction. When Shard of Destruction ends, Baal unleashes the accumulated damage in a large area around him, damaging all nearby enemies.
(R) Mana Rift

Baal restores 10% of his missing Mana whenever an enemy Hero affected by Clawing Abyss uses an ability.

Passive: Clawing Abyss gains a second charge with a 10 second cooldown between uses.
(Q) Eradication

Hitting an enemy Hero with the maximum bonus damage from Calamity inflicts a talented Lord of Destruction on them for 4 seconds.
(Trait/D) Vile Effigy

Damaging an enemy affected by Lord of Destruction leaves a Shade of Baal behind at the enemy Heroes location for 4 seconds. The Shade mimics Baal's Basic Abilities and Basic Attack, dealing 20% damage. Maximum of 3 Shades active at a time.
