Lilian Voss (v5.0 Rework)

Necromancer Hunter

"I'll never stop hunting your kind, necromancer. NEVER."

Lilian Voss once sought out revenge for her newfound state of Undeath. After a long journey of acquiring two enchanted Runeblades through...dark methods, Lilian was finally ready to take down Darkmaster Gandling. However when the tables were turned and she was forced to fight those who helped her, she begged the Heroes who invaded Scholomance to leave her to die, with shame in her unbeating heart.

As her body lay there, spirit still floating around, she felt something draw her soul. She awoke to find herself back in her undead body, good as new. Why was she cursed so? An even better question crossed into her mind; where is Scholomance. She stood, Runeblades in hand, looking to fight her way back to rip out Gandling's black heart through this Nexus.

She will have her revenge.

About

Those who have played through World of Warcraft will more than likely remember the unforgettable Lilian Voss, especially if you played and leveled an Undead characters. Lilian was apart of the Undead starting story, and was constantly seen throughout Tirisfal questlines. She was one of the most important figures in the Scholomance dungeon, as adventurers had to run throughout the dungeon with her to chase down the final boss of the dungeon, only for her to be nearly killed, telling adventurers to go on without her.

However this isn't where she is last seen. In Warlords of Draenor, she is a quest giver if the player built the Inn, giving you a quest for the Shadowmoon Burial Grounds dungeon, giving proof that she is alive.

When I created her, I sat here and thought this needs to be a character that will be difficult to kill, who can interrupt plans of those looking to kill her. In the game, she is a proven resilient character, with skills that prove impressive in many situations. As such, this is where I started with her combat trait, Undying Hatred. Undying Hatred will give enemies the 'Oh **** she's still up!' kind of feel after they drop her health to 0.

Moving on to her core abilities, I wanted her to be aggressive, much to reflect her personality. All three of her abilities are used by her during her boss fight in Scholomance. Shadow Shiv would be great to use as an initiation into battle, and then Dark Blaze and Death's Grasp would be used to help keep sustained damage.

Her Heroics were meant to contribute to team fights. Death and Despair would be great to keep her tank-ness in team fights, allowing her to last longer if she was the only Warrior on a team. Hateful Sight would be great for shutting down a single heavy-damage dealer on the opposing team. If it were on Greymane for example, does he risk attacking an ally or fall back until it faded.

Skin Ideas

Hooded Crusader Lilian: Once she wore her Scarlet Crusade uniform with pride. Now it was time for revenge. Lilian would be wearing her Hooded Crusader outfit she is seen wearing in WoW's Scarlet Monastery and Scarlet Halls dungeons (spoiler, it's Lilian Voss if you didn't know by now).

Color Scheme:
1: Hooded Crusader Lilian (Purple & Red)
2: Alliance Hooded Crusader Lilian (Blue & Gold)
3: Forsaken Hooded Crusader Lilian (Black & Purple & Dark Blue)

Scarlet Punisher Lilian: Lilian always dreamed what her life would've been like had she not died. Thanks to the Nexus, she now knows. This outfit concept is similar to Crown Prince Arthas's concept, where she's alive instead of her undead form. However, her skills would be modified some visually to match her new living form. The modifications are as follows:
-Death's Grasps would be hands made of light instead of darkness.
-Dark Blaze would be holy fire
-Lilian could have her voice changed so she didn't sound like her undeaed self

Color Scheme:
1. Scarlet Punisher Lilian (Red & White)
2. Alliance Scarlet Punisher Lilian (Blue & White)
3. Holy Scarlet Punisher Lilian (White & Gold)

Hateful Sight is such a cool ability and I'm jealous I didn't think of it first lol.

It's an interesting idea as sort of a mirror to Leoric (dunno how flavorful it is, I levelled my Forsaken before Cata), but it seems like it would be hard to get it to a point where it's useful (ie, not just killed again right away) but not frustrating (there's no point in killing her to begin with). I think it definitely shouldn't be a talent to be able to control the corpse after death. That's an option you have to pick just to be able to use your abilities; a more-effective minion that you passively watch while dead isn't fun.

I like how her basic kit holds together: she's got effective ways to focus people on her and rewards for doing so with Dark Fire. She pins enemies down for her team to focus, and has a trait that's a consolation prize for being killed because she's PROBABLY going to die doing it. I'm much less hot on her ultimates: Death and Despair is basically a double-length Shrink Ray with an inferior snare, and Vengeful Spirit mirroring casts of Death's Grasp is going to mess you up more often than not because you can't control who goes to you and who goes to your spirit. Death and Despair could be saved if it hit everyone in an AoE and was her "tanking ult", not sure what to replace Venegeful Spirit with, but I wanna say some kind of long-lasting DoT effect, so she can be like "Well, my team broke off from this fight, but I gave you a present anyway."

I said I don't know her lore, but I do know there's got to be a better name for her trait than "perfectly good corpse", though that could be a talent name if that's an important bit of dialogue. How is this for a rework:

Undying Hatred: Lillian only dies X seconds [X= her level?] after her health is reduced to zero. During this time, her movement speed and damage are reduced by 35%, her mana rapidly drains, and she cannot be healed, put into stasis, or otherwise rescued from death.

Numbers might need tweaking of course, but how does that general idea grab you? I guess it is kind of like Uther, but hits the "killing me won't stop me from doing my job" thing from a differentish angle -- and while Uther's Holy Force Ghost could fit her alt skin, I think that "No, I'm not dying yet, I hate you too much to succumb to death again is pretty cool on its own.

Hey, let me just say I am sorry it took me so long to respond to your comment. I'm excited to get some feed back as I know the Concepts I am coming up with is not perfect. Receiving feedback on what you think should happen is a great way to helping me hone my skills on what I need to change. Going on that, let me go ahead and respond to what you have said:

Talking about the name of her trait "A Perfect Good Corpse", I had named it that because that is the name of one of the Phases of her fight in the Scholomance Dungeon in World of Warcraft. Just for now, I am going to leave the name until I (or someone more intelligent than I) can come up with a better name for it.

Going on to what you were talking about on her basic abilities, thank you! I am glad that they are liked! Going onto her Heroics, I can kind of agree with you. I was looking for stuff that would be connected to her, while giving her a sense of uniqueness to it that would over-all be effective for her role as a Warrior. But I am afraid I did not quite hit the mark lol I'll completely rework Death and Despair, changing the ability completely soon. I have some sort of an idea what I want to change it to. I'll certainly take in your suggestion for Death and Decay.

Talking about Vengeful Spirit...I'm afraid I am stumped. I'll figure something out, where I'll keep the aspect of her shooting out her spirit, but I'll change it to be better fitting for a Warrior-type build such as hers.

I really enjoy your suggestion for Undying Hatred, and I will be sure to add it in as soon as I go in to make changes to her. Thank you!

I'll work on the numbers, and see if I can pump out something a bit more balanced.

Thanks again for your input! It is really helpful!
