The Dark Prelate and his Warp Blade Top
This build is for people that play Zeratul as the roaming dark prelate he is; seeking other players that have 50% or lower health. It is focused, rather than versatile and utilizes Zeratul's already substantial basic attack damage and buffing it to a point where Zeratul can splatter through minions/creeps and finish off those over-extending and/or unexpecting heroes. This build also conserves a great deal of mana as your basic attacks will deal quite a bit of damage, allowing you the flexibility to use your skills more strategically.
There are three main reasons for taking
Greater Cleave:
-XP Soaking - This is important for every team, and if there aren't any heroes nearby to engage immediately, you can clear a group quickly to gain that little bit extra XP to bolster the team.
-Runners - This attack is almost a ranged attack because of the increased radius. If you first use your
Blink ability to jump in front of an escaping hero to body-block them, you can save your cleave for when they continue to run, letting your Warp Blade to continue to slice through your opponent.
-Team fights - With team fights that often begin to cluster up, Zeratul can sweep through and provide a wide area of DPS while he focuses on a primary target. Save your
Blink for escape in this instance, you don't want to hang out in the cluster for too long unless you can seal the deal.
Giant-killing, focused, follow through Top
These talents provide great synergy with each other. Using abilities will decrease the cool down of
Focused Attack and your
Follow Through will further buff your basic attack. With these two talents, and optimal procs you can potentially output a basic attack at 115% of your normal damage without the need for any Mana.
Giant Killer further buffs your basic attack, making his warp blade like a hot knife through butter.
Void Prison Top
There are numerous benefits to picking this Heroic ability, but the primary purpose that I use this for is for Crowd Control (CC). If you're in a 3v4 or 3v5, good placement of this void prison can even the playing field for 5 whole seconds. This may not seem like much, but Zeratul along with his friends can dish out quite a lot of damage in 5 seconds.
I generally try to CC the support or if there is no support, I CC a melee warrior. This will leave more vulnerable Specialists and Assassins alone to focused down quickly.
The inverse can also be effective, if you are able to successfully grab the enemies DPS and Tank, you can pummel the support into the ground. If you have the advantage of using some sort of voice over IP (VOIP) communication, telling your team where you're going to drop this will help them avoid getting caught up as well (something I'll admit I've failed to do from time to time).
Another strategy for using the
Void Prison is late game when you might be attacking the core, and the opposing team has one or two heroes dead that are about to re-spawn. The
Void Prison fits pretty nicely as a cork at their starting base, preventing the re-spawning heroes from entering the fight. (I will try and post a replay of me landing this)
Double-Bombs and Nexus Blades Top
Double-Bombs is what can make Zeratul even more burst-y. Especially against runners.
Nexus Blades further strengthens Zeratul's resolve to eliminate the scourge of the opposing team. This 20% increase means you can potentially hit with basic attacks for 135% damage. The slowing effect allows you to continue your assault longer, or enables one of your team mates the time they need to come in and assist.
