Xal'atath was once a mortal child on a world consumed by the Void and became a herald of the Void Lord Dimensius. She later turned on him, then set her sights on Azeroth. The Old Gods defeated her and sealed her consciousness in the Blade of the Black Empire. For ages the blade whispered to and corrupted the people who carried it. After the Legion invasion she escaped by possessing a high elf corpse and bargained with the Old God N'Zoth. She later took the title Harbinger of the Void, gained the Dark Heart, destroyed Dalaran, and united Void entities into the Devouring Host to attack the Sunwell.
