The Old Gods

The Unspeakable Evils

A unique Assassin with great area denial and disruption from range.

Lore:
Many horrific manifestations have been created by the Void Lords with a single goal: to consume all of existance and turn it into a realm of eternal torment. By chance, the Void Lords infected the world of Azeroth with the four Old Gods C'Thun, N'Zoth, Y'Shaarj and Yogg-Saron. When the titans realized that the world-soul of Azeroth was in danger they sought to fight off the monstrosities' endless armies and stop their corruption, but with little luck. Eventually they titans themselves tried to tear the Old God Y'Shaarj from the surface itself which caused collosal damage to the world. This caused the realization that the only way to stop the Old Gods was to imprison them and stop their corruption. But no prison holds forever... Such power is inevitably drawn into the Nexus. With a new realm to devour, the Old Gods have now arrived, driving powerful Heroes mad.
.

Abilities and role:
The Old Gods would be a Ranged Assassin, a hybrid between Sgt. Hammer and Abathur, who can at the start of the game alter between an Old God to play as with a talent choice. Each Old God talent was designed with their own characteristics in mind and a unique quest to raise their own power. Using their specific power, the chosen Old God can aid your team to victory.

Their main ability is their Maddening Whispers (E) which is weak at first but can over time become very scary and dangerous. It ties well into lore and fits their theme perfectly as they drive people insane and cause them to break down. Roughly 3 enemy heroes can be kept at 5 stacks at all times which means they are slowed and take MUCH more damage from you, though this is difficult because the enemies might not be visible for you to affect them. This keeps them from being too overpowered against all enemies, so they have to focus on a single enemy to break down which makes it easier to counter and less frustrating to play against. While playing as the Old Gods, the player will have to focus primarily on tanks which are harder to kill since they will be alive for longer and building up a lot of stacks can greatly empower yourself to contribute in a teamfight.

Void Blast is their main source of utility but also damage. It is a skillshot and requires some aiming to land with a relatively small hitbox but is very rewarding if it hits, dealing damage and rooting enemies around the target. It deals less damage to minions because of this so that it doesn't instantly clear waves. Use this ability to support your team or deal poke damage if needed. It is especially useful when teams are together because it can hit many enemies.

Crusher Tentacle is the Old Gods' main teamfighting "prescence" as they will act as both damage and body blocking. Tentacles have very low health and dies in about 2 basic attacks. It requires clever usage of the charges it hold to efficiently use them and not waste all charges at once. Use this is their primary source for damage and area denial. One could think of them as a Napalm Strike but more damaging.

Servant is the first heroic ability which causes an enemy with 5 stacks of Whispers to fall under your control for a short duration. This is a great support tool for both removing a Hero from the enemy team and adding more direct combat power for your team. To compensate for this upside, the ability is restricted to heroes with stacks, has a slow cooldown and requires a short channel. This ability would be best used on high damaging heroes that can punish their nearby allies.

Hour of Twilight is a more strategic heroic that enables the Old God to extend their ability range or for area denial. The Old God can make use of reduced cooldowns to unleash a lot of abilities and Whispers to cause chaos among the enemy team and deal a lot of damage if they fight near you. Visually, the Old God would become transparent if a hero would be behind it.

If the Old Gods die, their trait is activated, enabling them to use Maddening Whispers to keep stacks on Heroes from the grave (or from the Void because the Old Gods don't die). The Old God player should utilize the trait as much as possible to keep dealing big damage to enemies.

Notes

-Old Gods always occupy a fort or keep, when spawning, the Old God takes a random friendly building to occupy (preferring active and closer to core buildings).
-Visually, the Old Gods would take the appearance of your level 1 talent choice. If no talent is chosen, C'Thun is the default model until a different choice has been made.

Playstyle for each Old God

Generally, all Old Gods would play as a Hero who focuses to eliminate a single Hero by targetting them with Maddening Whispers. They would also serve as a area denial Hero with Crusher Tentacles and Void Blasts near objectives or tight paths to block enemies from reaching your allies. The Old Gods doesn't deal much damage unless the Hero damaged is affected by Maddening Whispers which is why their poke damage is limited and they should instead work together with your team to debuff enemies with roots and a little damage to finish off enemies and aid your team's objective progress, teamfights, defenses etc.

Quoted:
C'Thun: Quest: Hit enemy Heroes with the initial damage of Void Blast 20 times. Reward: After hitting 10 Heroes, Void Blast initial bolt hits a 25% larger area. Reward: After hitting 20 Heroes, Void Blast chains to a nearby enemy causing the second target to also explode.

C'Thun is designed around his eye that can fire beams like in World of Warcraft. C'Thun is powerful for players who can land skillshots which rewards with empowering Void Blast. When the quest is completed, the chaining bolt can enable powerful plays together with talents such as "Truth of Shadows (13)" or "Eternal Death (16)" that can reduce your cooldown of Void Blast and increase its damage to empower it even more. C'Thun would be played similar to a Hero that deal poke damage or root similar to Feral Spirit or Howling Blast that enables your team to utilize the root or damage to land skillshots or finish off enemies.

Quoted:
Yogg-Saron: Quest: Killing enemy heroes grant 1 stack of God of Death. Each stack increases your damage by 3%. Can stack up to 15%. Reward: After killing 5 Heroes, your damage ignores armor and deals 200% more damage to shields.

Yogg-Saron builds around the idea of himself claiming to be "The God of Death" and being responsible for the "Curse of Flesh". As Yogg you would play looking for those snipe kills to kill off fleeing enemies or Heroes on low health to increase your damage to all Heroes and not just be limited to using Maddening Whispers to an enemy. By being an good player and taking part in kills, the quest can be fairly easy to complete and allow you to contribute more damage in teamfights and deny armor and shield abilities from enemies which can be really powerful in certain matchups. Talents to synergize with Yogg-Saron are talents like "Eternal Torment (4)" or "Constrictor (7)" that makes it easier to kill or damage enemies.

Quoted:
N'Zoth: Crusher Tentacles can now manually be ordered to strike instantly. Quest: Kill 40 minions with Crusher Tentacles. Reward: Crusher Tentacle reduces the cooldown of your Heroic ability by 1 second every time they deal damage to an enemy. Additionally, reduce the cooldown of Maddening Whispers by 1 second.

N'Zoth is more scheming. Doing things from the dark and preparing his return. His talent 1 is about this idea of building power without direct interferance with enemy Heroes and then being very powerful when he appears. When playing N'Zoth the player will want to complete the quest early so the reduced cooldown of Maddening Whispers can be used to bring down enemies quicker in teamfights to eliminate them. When your Heroic is unlocked, the reduced cooldown from Crusher Tentacles helps to keep yourself being threatening. The "Servant" heroic is especially powerful since you will be building up stacks of Maddening Whispers quicker and reducing your heroic cooldown. Talents that synergize with N'Zoth are talents that improve Crusher Tentacle and Maddening Whispers.

Quoted:
Y'Shaarj: Maddening Whispers reduces the damage dealt by the target by 15% for 3 seconds. Quest: Use Maddening Whispers 25 times. Reward: Enemy minions killed by your basic attack is converted to fight for your team. Reduce the cooldown of Unshackled Terror by 10 seconds

Y'Shaarj focuses on some different aspects. Reducing the damage dealt by enemies allows Y'Shaarj to support his team by debuffing enemies in fights to save allies from damage. At the same time, if a lane is being overrun by enemy minions, Y'Shaarj can travel to that lane and convert the minions to your team for a counterpush when the quest is completed. Playing as Y'Shaarj focuses on these aspects and that's why using Maddening Whispers is especially important. Talents synergizing are talents like "Gaze of the Void (4)" and "Eternal Torment (4)" that allows Y'Shaarj to cast Maddening Whispers more easily to complete his quest and be able to utilize split pushing and reduce the damage dealt by enemies.
