Illidan Threat: Global stun, Slippery, Evades basic attacks, Invincible transformation /// Counter: Maintain Avoidance, Blind, Poke, surge of light
3
Chromie Threat: Burst Damage, Slow, Time Stop, Invincibility, Fast B, Long range poke /// Counter: Poke, Burstable, Dive'n Burst, Dodge her easily predictable abilities ***A fellow assassin with no natural mobility who's more afraid of you than you should be of her. Get aggressive if you get Looped. 3 seconds is plenty of time to kill her before getting pulled back so why not make the most of it?
3
Falstad Threat: Poke, Burst, Gust, Slippery, Shield /// Counter: Poke, Bustable, Fend after barrel roll, Blind
3
Valla Threat: Basic attacks, Arrow burst, Stun, Sustainability // Counter: Blind, Avoidance, Burst, Poke *** Don't underestimate Valla's damage output, with either Arrow or basic attack build. Strafe isn't mitigated by Avoidance and can keep her sustained post 20.
3
Sgt. Hammer Threat: Damage from Ultimates, Knockback Armour, Sustainability and shields, Slippery /// Counter: Avoidance, Blind, Poke, Siege Mode gives easy Fend damage ***Avoidance prevents the majority of Hammer's damage. The common and correct move for her will be to blast you out of Fend.
3
Greymane Threat: Cocktail/Throat damage, stealth(talent) /// Counter: Stay out of cocktail area, blind his jump in and maintain avoidance. Poke him and exploit his lack of sustain
3
Tracer Threat: Pulse bomb /// Counter: Maintain avoidance, keep track of recall location, focus with basics and poking, don't use Fend and Ball Lightning if possible
3
Mephisto Threat: Burst Damage (Consume Souls 10), Root (Durance 10), Slow (Q), DoT(W) ////// Counter: Shade(E) can mess up Ball-Lightning but is real easy to hit with Valkyrie. Consume hurts but overall he's really easy to kill since he has to be close range to deal his damage(Lightning Nova W). Poke him to low > finish with Fend before or after Shade
4
Varian Threat: Taunt, Slow, Sustainability, Burst, Invincibility, Banner speed or armour /// Counter: Taunt Varian can't solo you, TB can be mitigated and blinded, CS is scariest, throw ball lightning early when he's committed. Poke, use blind defensively against him. Fend very effective!
4
Malthael Threat: Sustainability, Armour, DoT /// Counter: Poke, fight with cc, stay healthy, ***Wraith Strike allows him to dive in on you and jump behind Fend. Tormented Souls makes him almost unkillable to Cass
4
Alexstrasza Threat: Sustainability, Poke damage, Invincibility (Dragon Form/Cleansing Flame)***Counter: Poke, Abuse Abundance's predictability -> Ball Lightning when grouped up
4
Blaze Threat: Stun, Slows, Bunker invincibility, DoT, Shields, Beefy /// Counter: Fight with team
4
Fenix Threat: Slow can catch you, Slippery, Burst heroics /// Maintain Avoidance in close, poke down his shield don't let it regen, Avoidance doesn't block Salvo, Fend very effective. DON'T RUN FROM FIGHT YOU CAN'T PEEL AWAY JUST ATTACK AND FORCE HIS WARP.
4
Deckard Threat: Lots of CC potential, Root, Slow, Sleep, Stun(talent), burst healing for allies. /// Counter: Exploit his long cooldowns to get in close and get damage in. Keep moving to dodge root
4
Yrel Threat: Slow, Self-sustain, absorb damage /// Counter: Focus down, she'll hammer away fend, don't feed absorb with BL or Fend
4
Thrall Threat: Root, Heroic slow and stun, Poke /// Counter: Time avoidance with his basics, poke him, blind when he engages (usually after root), help teammates by blinding him. Fend very effective!
5
  No Threat
6
Malfurion Threat: Root, Silence, Ally Sustain /// Counter: Patient play, keep out of Dream radius
6
The Butcher Threat: Stun, silence, burst damage, sustainability, Lamb will kill anyone /// Counter: Inner Light talent, Deny damage or healing with blind, Poke, scary at full stacks
6
Gul'dan Threat: Damage over time, Sustainability, Fear /// Counter: Easy poke, Burstable, Deny healing, Be cautious of fear
6
Gazlowe Threat: Aoe stun, turret damage, lazer poke /// Counter: Poke, limit # of turrets ***Stay outside Grav-o-Bomb range, and don't dive in when he's set up with his turrets because their damage isn't mitigated by Avoidance.
6
Xul Threat: Root, Poison, Slow, Shield, Some burst /// Counter: Poke, Stay out of root range
6
Stukov Threat: Silence, Ally sustain, Slows, Knockbacks /// Counter: Poke'n burst
6

6
Sonya Threat: Whirlwind damage, stun, beefy at 20 /// Counter: Poke with Q, Ball Lightning gives you the damage edge ***Leap is a big threat but uncommon, don't get caught in whirlwind if you do just fight through
6
Zul'jin Threat: Ability damage build Zul, Unkillable, Slow, Root(talent), Ignore armour at 16 /// Counter: Try to save blind for taz'dingo(it will block the highest damage), keep up avoidance, poke his regen.
6
Tychus Threat: Overkill damage not mitigated, Minigun % damage, spell shield /// Counter: Overkill can move Tych out of Fend area while still dealing good damage to you. Blind blocks Minigun and Avoidance DOESN'T MITIGATE MINIGUN DAMAGE.
6
Azmodan Threat: Late game burst, Dunk and lasers /// Counter: Keep moving unpredictably and dodge dunks in the late game (it will be about 30% damage w/ heroic). Poke him down low enough for a Fend finish as Fend damage is faster than a full laser charge. Easy Valkyrie target. ** You will win 1v1s @ 100% hp. He needs support or for you to be hit with a few dunks beforehand to win a 1v1
7
  No Threat
8
Cassia Threat: Poke damage, Physical armour, burst damage, Blind /// Counter: Throw ball lightning early, Don't Fend unless you can kill, Be the better Cassia
8
Lunara Threat: Poison, Poke, Slippery, Burst, Outranged /// Counter: Fight with cc ***Cassia doesn't do well against this ranged assassin. Luna's poison isn't mitigated from Avoidance and, in fact, wears you down pretty quick. Luna can outrange you
8
Hanzo Threat: Out ranged, Poke, Stun, Slippery /// Counter: Poke'n Burst, Blind, Avoidance
8

8

8
Li-Ming Threat: Burst damage, Resets, self-shield /// Counter: Poke her low and dodge her abilities, prevent resets by staying healthy, get in close don't give her the space she wants. Fend after teleport

9
Nova Threat: Poke damage, Slow, burst damage /// Counter: Nova is burstable, don't get fooled by clone ***A hit from Snipe will not leave Nova within your basic attack, Q or Fend range. Her clone can lead to lost damage from Ball Lightning**

9
Nazeebo Threat: Poison DoT, Spider burst, Invincibility, Trapped by zombies/// Counter: Stay healthy, Dodge abilities, Poke, Expect Ice Block

10
Anub'arak Threat: Beefy, Spell armour, 2 stuns, Cocoon, slippery /// Counter: Basic Attacks, fight with team, don't overestimate Cass damage

Cassia - Amazon Warmatron

Cassia Hero Spotlight
-Cassia has no natural mobility or cc. A simple slow can lead to Cassia getting caught, which is why positioning is the key to success for playing Cass.

- Cassia is mana efficient. If you find yourself constantly thirsty for mana, you're probably using Blinding Light too much.

- Blinding Light + Fend is Cassia's bread and butter burst combo used for securing kills and weakening enemies.

-If you like tier lists, Cassia is around A- (S being highest) and recently rising with her last few changes

Avoidance

HotS Guide to Stutter Stepping
- You absolutely need to be profcient in stutter-stepping until it's as natural as breathing! If you aren't stutter-stepping during fights you'll be destroyed by AA attackers
- Avoidance makes Cassia "deceptively tanky". 65% 40% mitigation against basic attacks means Cassia can win a battle against almost all ranged AA carries through perseverance. The only threat is being blown up by ability damage.... too bad that's only the majority of assassins.
- Avoidance also encourages enemies to poke with abilities rather than their basic attacks.

Lightning Fury

- Lightning Fury splits perpendicularly which can allow you to hit targets that would otherwise be impossible to hit (much like Gilnean Cocktail). Learn its trajectory and practice throwing it at minions, and structures to reach targets behind them.
- Lightning Fury comes out slow relative to other skill shots, Snipe for example. Get comfortable with its speed and trajectory

Blinding Light

- 15s cooldown; Be selective and conservative in it's use
- Can be used to deny damage from an AA carry Tychus, The Butcher
- *NEW: Can reveal stealth, proc Spell Shield, stop regenerative abilities Second Wind

Fend

- Be patient and wait until your opponent burns their mobility before going in (ex: Teleport, Vault, Run and Gun)
- Very strong when paired with allied hard cc to keep the target in the Fend area
- Fending will take you out of Avoidance and can expose you to a lot damage

Ball Lightning

- Always take if the team needs increased damage output
- Look to maximize its damage. Don't throw it if a second bounce isn't guaranteed.
- I recommend throwing it early once a team fight is initiated or if you're dived on.
- Keep an eye on it and dance within its bounce range to keep it up or transfer it between enemies.

Valkyrie

- Great for pulling backline heroes
- Synergizes very well with cc abilities such as Entangling Roots
- Preps enemies to be hit by Blinding Light + Fend

Ring of the Leech

- Best option at 4.
- Gives Cassia sustainability before, after, and during team fights. Straight keeps her alive. Should be baseline!

Patch Notes Relevant to Cassia Top

Patch 38.2 / Oct. 10
Quoted:
Abilities

Lightning Fury (Q)
Damage scaling reduced from 4.5% per level to 4% per level
Talents

Level 7
Surge of Light (Trait)
Damage reduced from 225 to 210

- Her poke damage (Q) is nerfed to be fair late game against squishies. Same with Surge of Light, making it slightly weaker to be more fair. Subsequently, Cassia will be receiving much less healing from both abilities which is the REAL nerf.

Thunderstroke Build Top

Team Fighting:
Lightning Fury > Ball Lightning > Blinding Light > Fend > Surge of Light > Lightning Fury

Chasing Situations:
Lightning Fury > Blinding Light > Fend > Surge of Light > Ball Lightning > Lightning Fury

- Consistent poking and wearing down of enemies. Keep throwing Q's and be annoying.

- Take Surge of Light for reliable damage burst over Impale. Big aoe damage on blinded enemies and not so easily dodged. Life saving healing with Surge of Light + Ring of the Leech

- If it looks like you aren't going to kill with Fend: Use it to close the gap and pop Surge of Light while your enemy is still blinded

- Once you hit 16, Pierce will allow you to hit multiple heroes in a team fight. Sometimes it's worth it to instead combo Blinding Light + Lightning Fury when enemies are grouped.

- Thundergod's Vigor and Pierce work in tandem to turn Cassia into an automatic spear throwing machine. One reduces the cooldown per enemy hit and the other allows it to hit multiple enemies.

Charged Strikes Basic Attacking Build Top

Team Fights:
Lightning Fury > Ball Lightning > Charged Strikes > Blinding Light > Basic Attacks

-Huge damage potential of Charged Strikes in team fights. Pop it once a fight is initiated as it should last for the entire fight.

- DON'T USE Charged Strikes TO POKE. USE Lightning Fury!!

- Use Charged Strikes to chain damage through minions to heroes kiting behind them

- Blinding Light + Charged Strikes Gives you an increase of 40% for 2 seconds. Also, this build benefits more from having teammates who have blinds so make friends with the likes of Johanna, Li Li, Artanis, Auriel etc.

- Grounding Bolt + Martial Law Allows Cassia to be a giant killer against high health warriors and tanks. Punish their poor positioning accordingly.

- To overcome Cassia's short 4.0 attack range, positioning is key for this build. Get familiar with her default range and range with Titan's Revenge.

Fend Build w/ Valkyrie Top

Basic Combo:
Valkyrie > Blinding Light > Fend > Lightning Fury > AA

Elite Combo:
Valkyrie > Lightning Fury* > Blinding Light > Fend > Lightning Fury > AA
*Not timing this properly will disrupt the rest of the combo due to the recovery animation from the Q

- TAKE Ball Lightning IF YOU NEED DAMAGE AND YOU'RE PLAYING HL.

- You're not Stitches! Don't initiate by hooking an enemy with Valkyrie because I guarantee you'll miss. Look for a pull after the fight has initiated.

- The build excels against mages who hover around the range of Valkyrie; Great for teammates that like to get the finishing blow Genji, Zeratul, Li-Ming, Illidan; Very good with strong AoE CC Entangling Roots, Scroll of Sealing

- Ridiculous damage if the target stays in the Fend area. Stronger than Martial Law in some cases!

- Strong wave clear post 16

- Thunderstroke Adds increased damage output and a stronger poke which is crucial to putting enemies around the 60% HP mark to proc Impale. Continues to be strong after quest and into the late game.

- Big damage fall off without Ball Lightning. You will have fewer kills and lower damage if you take Valkyrie

Notable Talent Alternatives Top

Plate of the Whale

+ Works in tandem with War Traveler (heal while you chase)
+ 20hp/sec at max stacks

- Stacking is difficult: Enemies are already deterred from attacking you with basics thanks to Avoidance.
- Ring of the Leech heals more and faster than a rate of 20hp/sec
- 10% bump in hp is almost negligible for opposing assassins; if they want you dead, you're dead!

Recommendation: Take Ring of the Leech for faster and larger heals

Inner Light

+ Blind surrounding melee attackers (great against The Butcher and Thrall)
+ Bigger radius for easier blinding
+ Potential to keep an enemy blinded for 4s

- Stuns and Roots are typically cast from outside its range.
- Can be proc'd at inopportune times. The skill can't be toggled a la Spell Shield
- If you're accurate with your Blinding Light the 25% increase in radius doesn't benefit much.

Recommendation: You can cast Blinding Light on yourself (Alt + W) and do essentially what this talent does. I still believe the ability to self-heal with Ring of the Leech outweighs the utility of Inner Light

True Sight/Burst Build Top

As of Patch 27.5, True Sight has been removed from Cassia's talent list.
