Malthael Genji really doesn't have anything to deal with good Malthael players. His ult flat out counters Genji's and his damage is too spread out to make any use of counter-mechanics. Play with caution.

About OCM:

I'm a 2x Rank 1 and 4x Master+ player specializing in high MMR Assassin & "flex" play. I have played HotS since first wave technical alpha testing.

My guides are like notebooks. I update them progressively based on what I learn and theorycraft. As such, this guide is a culmination of my experience, successes, and feedback.

As we've seen with Overwatch heroes in the past, Heroes reimaginations of Overwatch heroes are just... so much fun. 4Head.

Genji is an insanely mobile backline hunter. Genji's strength is in his ability to go for a well-timed execute on an enemy, with annoying enough poke to warrant baiting and outsmarting the enemy team when they choose to engage.

One of the biggest things to understand about Genji's playstyle (at least my own personal style, as well) is that it revolves around outplays. Patience and reaction times are a huge part of playing Genji effectively, rather than just trying to big-**** anyone that gets in your way. Note that CC, especially silences, spell doom for Genji in most situations. Pick your engages carefully and know when the appropriate time is to go for the kill.

WEAB BLADE Top

This build is the build used frequently by many professional players; though it's apparent that the reason for this is organized, intense team play.

This build revolves around the cornerstones of Genji's strengths. There are a couple talents towards shuriken, a couple towards Reflect, and then a few odds and ends for maximized damage and utility potential.

Genji is not an easy assassin to play. While this build is what I'd call the "best" of the many he has, it is definitely the hardest to play. Make sure to keep in check when you are at close range versus long range, and make use of your mobility to confuse and manipulate enemies in large-scale skirmishes, rather than just retreat.

While the level 20 Blade upgrade is listed at the top, Zanshin is also an incredible option if you are able to absorb enough damage by level 20. If not, the upgrade is a safe but great choice as well.

It is important to also note how flexible Genji's level 7 choice and level 16 choices are. Everything is a great option, but sometimes there are stronger choices based on enemy team compositions. Strong Auto Attack comps are countered hard by Dodge, and more consistent damage comps don't benefit Reflect talents as well - so things like Final Cut are a great alternative.

ANIME Top

We've all seen a clip of some anime at some point that features the nuttiest, inhuman ninja combo we've ever seen. That's what this build does. This build capitalizes on Genji's outplay mechanics and emphasizes turning the opponents own damage against them before using your own combo to seal the deal.

It's important to pay attention to your total deflected damage with this build. Dragon Claw helps set a little subconscious reminder for how much damage you've been reflecting, but maxing out that required 6500 damage before Zanshin can mean the difference between winning and losing the late game. If you're in the clear and feel safe enough to do so, go absorb some free tower shots with your deflect and proc not only Dragon Claw, but some free Zanshin stacks as well.

This build emphasizes outplay, mobility, and combo damage. Stack up Dragon Claw, dive in with your E, pop Dragon Claw, reflect the response from the enemy, and use your kiting and shuriken damage to finish the job. Post-10, throw X-Strike in for that famous anime combo that will make your whole team go "NAISU".
