Hi, my name is Sugimori! I have a Youtube channel, and a Twitch channel where I play some video games like Heroes of the Storm, StarCraft, and Overwatch mostly. I am and always have been an analytical gamer trying to discover the best builds, and hate playing the meta. In my opinion, if the enemy knows what I will build due to what the meta dictates then the enemy will have the advantage. Off stream I like to play games like Dota 2 as well, so I have no shortage of MOBA experience and many times inspiration comes from Dota as well. More guide stuff to come in the future.

Grillin' and Killin' (Bruiser Build) Top

This build for Blaze is great if there is a more traditional tank on your team already and you can fit more into a secondary tank role. You can provide your team with more damage using this build at the cost of tankiness. In this build we will prioritize talents in dealing damage and escape mechanisms as Blaze doesn't have a great kit for doing that outside of Jet Propulsion.

Level 1

Adrenaline Stimpack is your best option at this level. Neural Stimpack may seem like it is stronger for a bruiser because you can cast more spells, I would urge you to pick Adrenaline Stimpack instead. Blaze desperately needs more escape mechanisms and Adrenaline Stimpack gives that to you. Think of this ability as your escape, with the extra effect of being able to gap close an enemy and deal more damage with an attack speed buff.

Level 4

Adhesive Petroleum will apply a slow to the ignited oil, so you never have to choose between slowing an enemy and dealing damage to an enemy. It should be noted that the slow is slightly weaker on the ignited oil than it is on the un-ignited Oil Spill. This difference is very small, but the knowledge of this may come in handy in a life or death situation.

Level 7

The build's namesake Grill and Kill is a great talent pick at this level. It is a quest talent that can increase the damage and duration of the ignited Oil Spill. This quest may seem like it will take a long time to complete, but with damage being applied very frequently, and your talent choice of Adhesive Petroleum, you will rack up quest points rather quickly. In the end you will be more deadly than before, achieving the build's goal.

Level 10

Bunker drop is a great skill when your team is competent allowing for the whole team to safely deal damage, and protecting teammates (or yourself) from death. If you sense a lack of team work on your team, maybe the more solo safe ability, Combustion, could be better.

Level 13

Fuel Leak is the best talent at this tier for a bruiser build. Other than laying down more oil (and potentially fire) for damage in initiation, this talent leaves a path that will slow down an enemy chasing you. As it allows for more damage, and an improved escape mechanism, it fits well with the ethos of the build.

Level 16

Heat Treatment is the best talent on this tier regardless of build. While using one of your major damage dealing skills, Pyromania, you will also heal for 75% of damage done. What this talent does is keep you alive longer to deal more damage, or help you to make an escape. Thermal Protection may be a great skill on any other talent tier, but I would not skip Heat Treatment unless you have a very good healer on your team that is great at keeping you alive.

Level 20

Burn Notice is a great talent for this tier, further slowing and damaging your enemies. Fortified Bunker may be a viable option if you have been seeing your team functioning well, and using your bunker often.

Firewall (True Tank Build) Top

This build is better for Blaze if you are in the position of primary tank (or only tank). This build is more of the Warrior-esque build. We will be primarily picking talents that help with your survival, and secondarily picking talents that help your teammates apply damage.

Level 1

Endurance Stimpack is the talent option for tankiness. Free shielding at the click of a button. Adrenaline Stimpack is also a great option, allowing an escape mechanism or another way to initiate.

Level 4

Meltdown is the perfect talent to pick for anyone trying to be tanky, and it is a no-brainer at this level. Reduces the damage that your enemies will deal to you when they are hit with your trait, Pyromania.

Level 7

Incinerator Gauntlets is the talent you want at this level. No talent at this level helps you with general tankiness, so we move on to our secondary criteria of helping your team. Incinerator Gauntlets increase your attack area, damage to minions and mercs, and ignites Oil Spills with basic attacks. this will help with wave clear and taking merc camps.

Level 10

Combustion is a decent pick at this level. It helps your team by slowing the enemies nearby and dealing chip damage to weaken them. The slow will allow your offensively stronger teammates land skillshots, and apply damage easier. Bunker Drop is a great talent as well, and helps provide tankiness with free effective health for your whole team when they are inside, and bonus armor when they leave. More often than not, however, enemies will either set up some zoning to kill your team after the bunker falls, or disengage entirely. I believe Combustion is the better talent for this playstyle.

Level 13

Nanomachine Coating will help reduce auto attack damage you take from enemies in Oil Spills and ignited Oil Spills. I selected this talent for this level because all heroes have an auto attack, and will always be effective. Suppressive Fire may also be a good option for an enemy team that is spell damage focused, but since Flame Stream is a fairly narrow skill shot, it would be less useful against many enemies or if you miss altogether.

Level 16

Heat Treatment is the best talent of this tier period. At this point with Meltdown chosen at level 4, Pyromania is your favorite skill. You damage everyone around you, heal for 75% of the damage you do during that team fight, and reduce all of their damage. This is the way of the tank.

Level 20

Flash Fire is a great talent at this level if you chose Combustion at level 10. It slows enemies, but no longer slows Blaze. This helps with your initiation, and secures the slow and chip damage for your team. If you instead chose Bunker Drop at level 10, if you sense good teamwork and your allies have effectively used your bunker in the past, you may wish to choose Fortified Bunker at this level.

Additional Tips Top

  • You picked a Warrior, that's awesome! What you didn't do is pick an Assassin, so do not pretend you are one. If your team needs you to soak damage, help them out, don't just go on a wild solo adventure to find a kill. If they need you to be a tank, then play as a tank, not a bruiser. Please don't ignore your team and their needs!
  • Use your Oil Spill in an effective way. Oil Spill is your method of making the enemy do what YOU want. You may see the oil as just a little slow or just a little damage, but your enemy does NOT want to step in it. Use this to your advantage to create zones that the enemy shouldn't be. Try funneling the enemies to make an artificial choke with your Oil Spill to help your Zagara land her Devouring Maw, or try blocking a choke off so you can more safely push some towers or forts with your team, or make a nearly dead enemy pick a different route.
  • Use Jet Propulsion as your initiation and Adrenaline Stimpack as your escape. The enemy can stop you from escaping with Jet Propulsion by standing in front of you.
