Introduction Top

Hey guys, my name is CRGRO. I'm a 3k mmr player according to hotslogs and have a lot of experience playing assassins exclusively. I've played over 800 games as assassin with a 56% win rate and I've seen a lot of strategies in my days. This is going to be a semi-detailed Raynor Guide for the Kharazim Patch.

Who is Raynor? Top

Raynor is a single target killing machine capable of burning down tanks in seconds and executing assassins in the blink of an eye. He can hit for up to 700+ crit late game with one AA late game, and attack farther than any hero in the game. He's a tough assassin due to his passive heal and a very smart choice for any assassin in the current patch trying to win more games. His win percent keeps rising and I don't think it will stop.

How to play Raynor Top

Raynor is based around auto attacks, so you want to play for auto attack. I personally move with right click and use "a" (for move to auto attack) left click to target my enemies. I've seen Chu8 play Raynor and he strictly seems to right click, but I feel like using "a" left click allows me to be more precise with my movements and more exact with my kiting. Use whatever you feel more comfortable doing at the most effective level. You want to keep max range at all times from your enemies. Use your Q to peel for your teammates, not just yourself, but anyone who needs it. On the other hand, you want to use your q at the last moment when chasing as a killing blow shotgun blast or a parting gift to ice the cake of damage you have just baked.

During the beginning of the game you want to exclusively lane. Try not to get ganked, which is easy because Raynor doesn't have extremely efficient wave clear. Collect as many stacks of SM as you can and soak exp for your team. Raynor is great at getting exp for his team because he wants to stay in lane for as long as possible to soak as much SM stacks as he can so he can do more damage late game. Always go with your team for objectives unless they can afford for you to keep soaking. Don't be afraid to ask if they need you, sometimes they will, sometimes they won't.

On fast maps like BoE, where within less than 2 minutes of the game you are experiencing team fights. Do your best to deal damage to the opposing immortal while soaking lane.

When you hit 7, depending on what talent you go, this is when you start to roam with your team while still attempting to pick up as many SM stacks as you can. If you take the movement speed you can play very aggro. Use it to buff your team, spread some damage where you can and wait for one of their squishies to step into your range and obliterate them. If you take POAC, use your ult for more than just team fighting. You want to use it to harass before teamfights before you get there, but spend the time it's out to soak lane getting the CD down while simultaneously stacking for SM

When you hit 10. You want to use your ult wisely, generally it is to be used when you're being engage on, as it takes a quick second for the banshees to come down. This gives you a bit of feather time to prepare to place them. You have to be good at micro managing your ult because they can easily get aoe'd down or focused if the fight isn't busy enough. Place them on the outskirts of the fight and make sure they are on people in the back line. The raiders do a lot of damage even without dusk wings, so they can kill people who are running away. Make sure you spend the time to place them on the right people, in the area where they will do the most damage without taking the most damage.

When you get berserk, be careful of how you use it. This talent is great for bursting people down so you want to use it as either an execute, an inital act of violence, or a stand still machine gun tactic. Stacking this with W makes you attack so fast that it's actually less benefical to move, so you want to be able to stand still in a good spot and use your w and berserk to get the most out of it.

At level 20, if you take nexus frenzy, you have hit probably the most overpowered power spike of this patch. You now have sniper like range. You can AA as far as your Q can shoot. Use this to your advantage. Poke poke poke, and slaughter the enemy back line when you get an opportunity.

If you decide to go POAC and dusk wings. Abuse the fact that your ulti now has the potential to solo someone under 70% hp by itself. Seriously, I have initiated the ult when I was in bot lane on sky temple, sent it mid lane to where a falstad was clearing lane (while I was still farming bot) and almost have my ulti kill him. Without me doing anything, dusk wings took Falstad down to about 15% and he had to fly away. Use this to your advantage, if you are late to a fight. Ult a minion or a merc and send it down to the fight to initiate for you.

Where do I stand with Raynor? Top

Generally you want to be with your back line. This allows you to peel for people like kael with your q, while dishing out a damage to their tank. If you get an advantage, you can spread out on your own and get good position on their squishes. Be careful though, because you can die fast if your q is down and a zera decides to pop on you.

Conclusion Top

In all, I would suggest Raynor to anyone playing an assassin trying to win more games. His win percentage has gone up 4.6% on hotslogs since the patch and I've won just about every game I've played with him. He's a really good assassin and he also serves as a great way to improve your micro mechanics. I apologize for this guide being so short, I'm writing it in response to a post on reddit that asked for my build. I hope you enjoy and feel free to check out my stream where I talk theory crafting and play just about every hero at a decent 3k mmr lvl (according to hotslogs :) )
