Malfurion Stormrage was the first night elf druid and also initiated the mainstream use of druidism among the night elven people ten millennia ago under the tutelage of the demigod Cenarius within Val'sharah. Through Malfurion's guidance, the kaldorei managed to successfully halt the Burning Legion's first invasion of Azeroth during the War of the Ancients. In its aftermath, he became the greatest of the world's archdruids.

Malfurion is a healer that supports his team with healing over time spells, roots, and the ability to restore his allies' mana pool. Regrowth has a long duration and is able to be cast on several allies at a time, allowing Malfurion to provide sustained healing to his entire team simultaneously. Through his talent choices, Malfurion has options to greatly improve his healing potential, add more utility to his toolbox, and increase his damage output according to the situation at hand.

Due to the nature of Malfurion's healing style, he struggles to mitigate high amounts of burst damage directed towards friendly players and is reliant on using his Entangling Roots ability to keep threats at a distance while his allies recover slowly over time with regrwoth. Tranquility is Malfurion's best and only option to deal with bursty opponents and it's an option that isn't very reliable without the empowered version that comes with Serenity at level 20. Prior to unlocking Serenity, or if you don't select the talent, avoid using Tranquility outside of important team fights.

With the ability to maintain healing over time effects on all five friendly players simultaneously, Malfurion is unrivaled at sustaining his team's health pools. The low mana cost of Regrowth allows Malfurion to spam his healing ability every time he needs to refresh a Regrowth on an ally without worrying about the mana cost. Even better, Moonfire is even cheaper to cast and allows Malfurion to do additional healing to all allies affected by Regrowth each time he hits an enemy hero with Moonfire.

Entangling Roots is an extremely powerful ability with the potential to root the entire enemy team in a single cast and can be upgraded at level 4 and again at level 7. With talent options to summon treants for extra damage, reduce enemy healing received when rooted, increase the root duration, and increase the area of effect, Entangling Roots is a very versatile ability that can be adapted to any situation. Be advised, however, that it has a very high mana cast and will quickly see Malfurion using his hearthstone or drinking from the fountain to restore mana when used excessively.

The low mana cost of Regrowth and Moonfire allow Malfurion to fulfill his role as a healer without needing to rely on the fountain or hearthstone for mana. However, the high mana cost of Entangling Roots makes it a struggle to maintain a healthy mana pool. Revitalize can be chosen at level 13 to help offset the high mana cost of entagling roots, but there are better choices on that talent tier. Effective communication with your team will be the most effective way to mitigate the mana cost of Entangling Roots so that Malfurion never wastes mana on a root that doesn't land.

Through Innervate, Malfurion is the only hero in the game that is able to directly restore mana to his allies and is a very powerful ability that allows mana-hungry friends to stay in the fight longer and cast spells more frequently. Unfortunately for Malfurion, all of his other utility options are gained through talent choices. That's not to say that he lacks utility, but it does mean that choosing those options comes at the expense of empowering other aspects of his healing kit. Nature's Cure is a Cleanse ability that is unique to Malfurion that can be selected al level 7. hindering fire applies a 25% slow to enemy heroes when affected by Moonfire and is available at level 13. Twilight Dream is an AOE silence and Malfurion's second choice for an ultimate ability.

This build can be considered Malfurion's default healing build and should be used in most matchups. The goal of the build is to maximize healing output and take advantage of talents that benefit from having multiple instances of Regrowth active. The gameplan from start to finish is to keep regrwoth active on as many allies as possible at all times while using Moonfire for burst healing. Each ally affected by Regrowth is instantly healed when an enemy hero is hit by Moonfire. Entangling Roots is very powerful, but also very expensive to cast; use it when you are confident that it will land and will be impactful.

Rejuvenation causes a Regrowth to be cast on Malfurion whenever you cast it on another friendly player. The free Regrowth generated by Rejuvenation last for 50% of its normal duration. This talent is the keystone for the entire build as it allows you to cast two Regrowths for the price of one. Malfurion should avoid casting Regrowth on himself and instead focus on teammates. So long as friendly players are being healed, Malfurion will always have an active Regrowth on himself as well.

strangling vines causes all enemy players to receive 40% less healing from all sources for three seconds after being affected by Entangling Roots. A successful root will usually, if not always, result in getting a kill on an opposing player. The reduced healing that rooted enemies receive ensures that their healers will not be able to keep them alive. It is important to cast entagling roots where your opponent is going to be rather than where they currently are due to the high start up time of the spell.

Wild Growth extends the duration of all active instances of regrwoth for each enemy hero hit by Moonfire. This talent is useful for maintaining Regrowth on distant allies and frees Malfurion to cast Moonfire more often since he will not need to refresh Regrowth on allied heroes. Nature's Cure is also very potent and can often turn the tide of battle when used correctly. Avoid trying to cleanse every single instance of crowd control on your team and instead be on the lookout for bigger abilities like Ring of Frost or Mosh Pit. More experienced players should choose Nature's Swiftness while new players will find that Wild Growth to be more helpful.

Tranquility heals all nearby allies for an amount per second for eight seconds. Allied heroes will also receive 10 armor if they are affected by Regrowth. Tranquility is an amazing heal to bring the entire team back up to healthier levels and is also very good at sustaining your team throughout the duration of a team fight. Be mindful to keep Regrowth active on allies while also repositioning to keep all friendly players within the healing radius. Twilight Dream is Malfurion's alternate heroic ability that deals damage to enemies around Malfurion and silences them for 3 seconds. Choosing this utility option severely limits Malfurion's ability to deal with incoming burst damage and should really only be taken when the team is communicating effectively and playing an aggressive gameplan.

Nature's Swiftness grants Malfurion 6% movement speed for each ally currently affected by Regrowth. increases Malfurion's movement by 6% for each friendly player affected by Regrowth, including any active instance of Regrowth on Malfurion. At 5 active instances of Regrowth, Malfurion will have 30% additional movement speed, the same speed increase gained from mounting. Mobility is one of the most powerful attributes a character can have as it allows them to avoid skillshots, move out of AOE abilities, and quickly get within range of an ally in need of a heal. Hindering Moonfire benefits your team by locking down fleeing opponents who would have otherwise escaped to safety. It can also be used as an activator for heroes who use talents like Executioner. However, this aggressive style of play isn't suited for this particular talent build.

Nature's Balance increases the area of Moonfire by 25% and also increases the duration of Regrowth by three seconds. The Regrowth that is cast on Malfurion from Rejuvenation does not benefit from Nature's Swiftness. The increased duration increases Regrowth's total duration from 20 seconds to 23 seconds, making it much easier to maintain 5 active instances of Regrowth. This is important to improve the effectiveness of the level 13 talent Nature's Swiftness and the level 20 talent Serenity.

Serenity reduces the cooldown of Tranquility by 3 seconds for each enemy hero hit by Moonfire and also increases the healing of Tranquility by 10% for each ally affected by Regrowth. Because Malfurion is already using Moonfire frequently to keep his allies healthy, there is no need to change how Malfurion is played in order to fully utilize this talent. It's not uncommon to hit two enemy heroes at a time with monfire, especially in the late game, so it is reasonable to view this talent as reducing the cooldown of Tranquility by 6 seconds each time Malfurion casts Moonfire. Once this talent is unlocked, Malfurion should feel free to use his ultimate ability more liberally as it will be back off cooldown shortly. If Malfurion is using Twilight Dream, Astral Communion is the recommended choice over the other options as it allows Malfurion to more safely and effectively insert himself into a cluster of enemies and catch them by surprise.
