Threat Hero Notes
1
Chromie Imperius can pretty much walk on any mage. They DO NOT want to be anywhere near you so exploit their poor positioning!
2
  No Threat
3
Greymane Hit Molten Armour when he jumps in
3
Gul'dan Walk straight towards him (or any mage really) with W and pressure with damage. Save Q to close distances. Horrify will usually walk you towards the enemy team.
3
Illidan Have to wait until he loses Evasion before proc'ing Marks. Q is an effective peel for allies getting Hunted.
3
Johanna Imperius damage > Johanna. Watch for her blind and work around Iron Skin
3
Kael'thas Angelic Armaments counters Pyroblast and will never break 1:1 until level 22 (at which the damage and shield are equal! cool!)
3
Kerrigan Angiris counters Maelstrom. Don't let Kerri accumulate a large shield.
3
Leoric Don't give him free healing off of his Drain. Fight him if you get Entombed.
3
Li-Ming Stay close to her to lower Orb damage and make it harder for her to connect all Missiles. Be patient when trying to stun her and wait for her to Teleport!
3
Maiev Close-range Maiev will get blown up by Burn the Impure when she tries her Bind-Pull gimmick.
3
Mephisto Mephisto's shade is such an easy Spear target you only need to get comfortable with its duration. After Spearing, he's ded!
3
Ragnaros
3
Rexxar It's easy to kill Misha as Imperius. Without Misha, Rexxar is very limited.
3
Samuro Clones will absorb Molten Armour damage. Focus on the real Samuro and you're already winning this matchup
3
Sgt. Hammer Bulwark of Flame at 4 if there are no options to get in on Hammer
3
Sonya Easy to beat Sonya 1v1. Without Leap? Even easier!
3
Thrall Thrall has good poke depending on which talent he takes at 1. He is easy to Spear and easy to get healing off of Unshakable Faith.
4
Artanis Imperius' sustain and damage are stronger. Suppression Pulse shuts down all of Imperius' damage
4
Blaze Burn the Impure > Blaze DoT
4
Chen Easy to get caught by Wandering Keg or continuously slowed with W
4
Cho Angiris is strong against Gall's heroics. Burn the Impure is extremely necessary at 1. Kite abilities and keep pressuring with damage.
4
E.T.C. Angiris can grab Mosh. Damage is not a threat, but his CC is!
5
  No Threat
6
Abathur Walking into mines are a simple and easy peel since imperius has no mobility outside of Celestial Charge. Envenomed Spikes/Adrenaline Boost at 16 are counterpicks to Imperius
6
Alarak Close range Imperius will get hit with Discord Strike Easily. Counter-Strike is easily proc'd by Molten Armour
6
Fenix Annoying slow (Q), and poke. Easy to hunt down with Celestial Charge.
6
Genji Mobility makes him hard to catch, wait for his CD's.... notably Cyber Agility
6
Junkrat Imperius is vulnerable to Mine shenanigans.
6
Kel'Thuzad Damage and CC can be scary but you have talent options (Hint: at 4, 16, 20). Always go in when he misses Chains!
6
Mal'Ganis Gal'Manis' damage is not a theat. His cc, HP transfer, and being in your face are his strengths.
6
Malthael Angiris for Tormented Souls
6
Nazeebo Toad build is good keep-out against Imperius. You can Q to get out of zombies or interrupt Ravenous Dead
6
Raynor He's got good poke and keep out. Easy to kill when out of position though!
6
Stitches Imperius is an easy Hook&Gorge target and is vulnerable to Stitches' Slam slow(16). His damage is not a threat!
6
Sylvanas Don't underestimate Sylv damage or heroics
6
The Butcher If you get chained it's rough unless you pop Armaments early. Angiris is very good when Butch is only targeting your squishies because his Charge+Chain leaves him in a predictable place.
6
Tyrael Imperius is the offensive version of Tyrael if Tyrael was given damage talents.
6
Valla Depending on the style of Valla player your going up against.... You will either get poked to hell while she stays mobile and out of range, or she will be Vaulting towards you at which point you can just walk up and kill her.
6
Varian Parry makes it hard to convert Marks into damage
7
Anub'arak A lot of peel options with his Q, E and Cocoon. Damage is no threat but getting caught or peeled are always a threat.
7
Cassia Cassia's damage can be scary and her Blind will negate your damage. Imperius' play style is weak against Ball Lightning.
7
Diablo Easy to hit Burn the Impure Combo on Lightning Breath. His Stun Lock Combo (Apoc>Q>E>Apoc(Stun)>Hellgate(Stun)>Q) will get you killed unless you preemptively activate Molten Armour/Impervious(20)
7
Falstad A mobile Fal is really good at keep out. He's got an easy escape with E, strong poke, and lane pressure with Z.
7
Garrosh Imperius is easy to Toss or Taunt. Garrosh has good sustain at 13 (Blood Craze)
7
Hanzo Super annoying poke and effective poke. Difficult to reach in the backline. Must save Q to prevent his Natural Agility (D) escape!
7
Yrel Yrel always has Ardent Defender in her back pocket for survival. Don't let her get behind you!
8
Dehaka Better sustain early game. Can't bully him until 20 with Brand of Solarion and even then Dehaka's sustain is too strong
8
Nova Nova gets free poke (Q) on Imperius from outside Spear range
8
Orphea Orphea is annoying with her little dashes and hard to catch
8
Tychus Mobile with % damage Trait! You can't 1v1 while he has Minigun up (watch for the red barrel). Wait for his Dash before trying to land a Spear.
8
Zarya Zarya shields are too strong! Speed Barrier(4) is good enough against Imperius to take. Don't feed her energy!
9
Jaina J's slows are very good against Imperius. Get in while E and W are on CD. Take Impervious (20) if she's dominating!
9
Lúcio Lucio's move speed (W) makes it hard to Imperius. His E will allow his allies to run away. Big shield (10) is hard to interrupt as Imperius. Lucio Q will push you away with ease. ALL OF LUCIO'S BASE KIT COUNTERS IMPERIUS!
9
Lunara Lunara's range, slow, move speed, and Leap (R) are all difficult for Imperius. She also has a spell shield at 13!
10
Arthas Arthas' numerous defensive abilities are too much to overcome alone. Frozen Tempest (E) is a natural Imperius counter. 25% armour at 7, Ghoul sustain at 10 counters Molten Armour damage, Anti-Magic Shell at 20. E build Arthas can trap Imperius in a world of slow!
10
Medivh Medivh makes it real hard to get good damage and finish off kills!
10
Tracer Very mobile with damage that accumulates fast. General counterplay is to keep track of where Recall will leave her. Don't go all in throwing out abilities recklessly. Sovereign Armour to mitigate Pulse Bombs if needed.

NEW: updates in RED

Imperius Overview Top

Basic Combo

Easy Spear

Wrath of the Angiris

Good heroic to hard peel dangerous heroes with strong sustain, damage, or initiation when no other cc alternative exists on the team.
The Butcher Kerrigan Malthael Dragonblade Sonya

Angiris Grab

You need to proc the slow on Solarion's Fire to connect with the Grab. It will hit them if they do not have any mobility options.

Bruiser Top

Burn the Impure Damage Combo:
(activate) (activate) [AA's] (Damage)

NEW: Brand of Solarion is incredible at 20 because it allows every auto-attack and Holy Fervor proc to benefit from x3 Valorous Brand + Burn The Impure damage while also delivering constant healing from Battle Hunger. Stack 3 marks and land a Q to start the damage. The only way to counter Imperius after 20 is Blind and Healing Reduction.

THIS COMBO IS INCREDIBLE DAMAGE YOU CAN KILL ANYTHING WITH THIS COMBO! except some other high health warriors

Hitting Molten Armor during Celestial Charge's stun will lead to a lot of damage falloff! You must activate just before the stun ends and you can AA.

Burn The Impure + Battle Hunger + Holy Fervor

Incredible damage and sustain! During teamfights Holy Fervor will proc anyone with Valorous Brand via Molten Armor AND reduce their armour Melting Touch

Better Peels and Debuff Top

The idea of this build is to help the tank peel when they do not have the best peel ( Stitches for example). Peeling for your backline is also very helpful in winning fights when you can turn on the enemy diver ( Thrall, Samuro, Valeera)

Consuming Flame gives the team added utility to catch heroes in a composition that lacks good cc (teammates with Illidan, Gul'dan and Li Li for example)

Heavenly Host Very strong for keeping teammates alive. Ideal for late game situations when you need to keep your Kael'thas Greymane or Ana from being picked and bursted.

RIP Unshakable Faith and Bulwark of Flame

Unshakable Faith

A little more reliable healing than Battle Hunger with a bonus utility of cleansing yourself of slows and roots.
IF THE ENEMY HAS NO SLOWS OR ROOTS: Battle Hunger
IF THE ENEMY HAS NO SLOW OR ROOTS AND IS AA HEAVY: Bulwark of Flame
