Hello!

This is my third guide. Hopefully you will like it.

Uther is one of the best heroes in the game. Easy to play thanks to his durability and direct spells (He has only 1 skill shot) . His main strength comes from his excellent healing and hard CC. You might want to play him as full support and stay behind your team but this guide is for paladins who wants to front line and show to the enemy, what they are capable of.

I present you two builds I use most often. Feel free to try them with different talents.

PROS
-Tanky
-Two heals, strong single target and one aoe.
-Two stuns, on with short cd and 2nd one is aoe
-Eats Nova for breakfast (same for other squishies)
-You can do some dmg

CONS
-You have to be close to enemy to maximize your effectivness
-Not exactly most mobile

Abilities overview Top

Trait: Eternal Devotion - After death you will become spirit for 10 seconds and you can help to your allies. However you do only 50% damage and healing. I am not fun of abilities which takes effects after death. You should try to stay alive always.

Holy Light (Q) - Cheap, strong, one target heal. Nothing much to say. With Holy Shock you can use this to nuke down your enemy.

Holy Radiance (W) - Awesome spell which is aoe and do both - damage and heal. Also it always heals you. And it has nice range. Good for clearing non-heroic units and for pushing. I use these when clearing mercenaries. I suggest you to take few steps back before using it, if you are too much in front of your team, to hit as many enemy and ally heroes as possible.

Hammer of Justice (E) - This short range ability will stun and damage your target. Cooldown is short only 8 seconds. Don't waste it to do more damage because it has only little damage actually. Save it for CC.

Talents Top

Uther is melee hero. His Hammer of Justice (E) has short range and thanks to your passive you can take some risk. To maximize fun and effectivness of this hero I chose him to play agressively on the front line. I usually use 2 different builds, depending on map. However I don't always stick to them 100% and from time to time I pick 1 or 2 talents differently because I have more fun like that and I try to adjust to situation.

This time I won't present talents as primary choice and it's alternative. I will make three groups. Main choice. Useful choice. Not interesting choice for this build.

Level 1

Main choices:

Conjurer's pursuit - Mana regen is always good. It's always useful when you have mana to keep fighting. Teleporting back to base is often waste of time and your awesome presence can be missed. I prefer to take this one on maps where you collect enough globes. That usually goes for Cursed Hollow, Dragon Shire and Garden of Terror

Blessed Champion - It's actually not bad talent at all if your team stays together and you auto attack a lot. This talent will help you keep your team healthy and it's good combination with Hammer of the Lightbringer because you have to auto attack to make use both of these talents. I use these on map where I bash a lot. Which happens on Blackhearts bay and The haunted mines also Garden of Terror.

Useful choice:

Reach - This talent increase range of your Holy Light (Q) noticeable. It made to save a life many times and it also helped me to finish some enemy heroes. I recommend you to try this talent by yourself.

Bad choice:

Dense Weightstone - Okay this talent increase damage by only 40% on ability which actually has very low damage and is best used as cc. I am not sure if I would consider this as useful choice even if this talent was increasing damage by 100%

Level 4

Main choices:

Hammer of the Lightbringer - This will obviously help you keep your mana up. As I said it's good combination with Blessed Champion and I also prefer to take atleast 1 talent which will help me with mana

Fist of Justice - With this talent you can cast your Hammer of Justice (E) which means even more cc. With this front line build, it should not be problem to make use fo this talent.

Useful choice:

Protective Shield - I rarely take this one, however it can help you to keep up your allies if enemy team has too much damage. Your heals have 12 seconds cooldown. That's quite a lot.

Bad choice:

Protect the weak - We don't want to waste our heal on minions or mercenaries

Level 7

Main choice:

Cleanse - In between these weak choices of this tier, this talent seems to me as most reasonable choice. If you are able to push one more button, you can save lives with this ability. It has short duration and most of cc is about 1-3 sec. If you are new to this game, you probably won't make good use of this ability. However it's powerful ability for experienced player who can predict a little and knows when cc is coming.

Useful choices - Bad choices:

Rest talents of this tier are roughly same quality and all of them are not very interesting. Thus it's hard for me to make a clear border which talent is still useful and which is not.

Wave of Light - This talent best choice if you want to keep playing Uther simple and you don't want any more buttons to push. It's best choice for newbies.

Clairvoyance - This talent might help you find enemy if you don't see him on map. It can be used to check up some points of interest, which can be sometimes useful.

Rebuke - Probably worst choice. Because this can complicate use of your Hammer of Justice (E). Although it can be used to knock enemy from vulnerable allies or push an enemy into more advantageous position, at the end you might do more harm. You are not most mobile champion and get to right position might be problem.

Holy Devotion - As I said I don't like abilities which activate after death and that's because I don't plan to die. If you doing good, you won't need this because you won't be dying and if you are doing bad and you die a lot, it won't probably change anything.

Level 10

Main choice:

Divine Storm - Aoe damage and stun ability. Especially when talented again at level 20, this ability can change course of fight. You can stun and hurt multiple enemy heroes, save lives or nuke down a squishy thanks to this ability. Imho it's superior than a 3-4 second invulnerable 1 target.

Useful choice:

Divine Shield - This ability can save lives or might help your team mate destroy enemy team. However it's quite unreliable to use it on ally you don't know, because you can only guess how will he/she react. It's fairly more useful if you play with friends.

Level 13

Main choice:

Burning Rage - My favourite talent. This will help you to deal some damage as you should be in front line, it should be useful. Also once you reach this talent, you should be able to fight 1vs1 very well and it should help you to nuke down squishy targets and push.

Useful choices:

Shrink Ray - Very good ability which help you take down dangerous enemy. It can also help you to prevent enemy nuke your allies.

Sprint - This is another nice talent. Extra movement speed can once again help you to save lives (yours most often) or take down enemy. Just don't waste it and use it in right moment.

Bad choice:

Spell shield - It's not that bad talent. However it's worst possible choice in this great tier. You are tough and should not die so easily. Even if enemy teams try to nuke you down often, Sprint is better choice to stay alive.

Level 16

Main choices:

Holy Shock - My personal favourite. I use that to nuke down enemy. With this talent I am usually able to take down single squishy target during my full E-W-R-Q combo.

Gathering Radiance - Another great talent I use often. This one is obviously much more useful when you stay with your team. More targets you hit, more it does heal and damage.

Useful choice:

Imposing Presence - Nice talent if you tank a lot. When your team lacks of warriors you might prefer this talent and try to tank.

Bad choice:

Hardened Focus - As you can probably guess, you won't stay over 80% hit points during fight, when you are in front line for too long. This is not talent compatible with this build.

Level 20

Divine Hurricane - This is most reasonable choice if you have taken Divine Storm. With this you can actually stun all 5 enemy heroes. Also cooldown gets 20 seconds shorter which is a lot.

Bulwark of Light - I would probably take this talent in case I would have Divine Shield. One second might sound like nothing, yet it might be difference between life and death.

Storm Shield - Probably worst choice. It's not bad talent, but it's not that impressive. You might prefer to pick this over Bulwark of Light if enemy team does a lot of aoe damage or fails to focus one target.

How to play? Top

As I said playing Uther is easy. Check health of your allies and heal them with your Holy Light (Q). This should be clear.

Use your brain before using Holy Radiance (W) and go into position from which you can hit more targets. You might wait a second if you expect to be use this ability more effectively. Like when you expect more your allies to fall from 100% health or when more enemy heroes are approaching.

Use your Hammer of Justice (E) as much as possible, but that doesn't mean you have it waste on 1st tank you meet. You might better to save it for a damage dealer little more far away.

Finally take the best position to stun as many enemy heroes possible if you have taken Divine Storm. Sometimes you might try to wait for enemy to make bad move and get stacked in jungle before you unleash your it.

For 1vs1 fight I obviously spam my Holy Radiance (W) + Hammer of Justice (E) as much as possible. You have to make decision if it worth to use your heroic ability in fight like that.
For nuking down squishy heroes like Nova I usually use E->W->R->Q combo. However you might to take down some hit points to more mobile heroes like Valla before you push R because they might run away and you never want to waste you heroic ability.

Don't forget. Stick with your allies. Don't solo too much because you are most effective with your team. Do objectives. Keep gathering health orbs if you have taken Conjurer's pursuit. And stay cool and don't flame. Even when you are losing, flaming never helps and it needlessly ruins game to you too.

Once again I repeat: english is not my first language nor I am good expressing and explaining in my first my language anyway :)
