Diablo In human form your basic attack range leaves you susceptible to diablos Shadow charge range and after Overpower you have few escape options.
8
Uther Once you dive in Uther's easy to land Hammer of justice can turn your momentum against you.
8
Raynor With a range of 6.5 plus his trait [advanced optics] you are no match for Raynor in lane early game. Late game be sure to bate out his stun.

The above build allows huge poke potential which starts a level 7 and spikes at 16 to deal an instant ranged aoe of 800+ damage every 9 seconds, then once the targets are low dive in to secure kills. This build essentially makes Greymane a reliable answer to the mages of old by out ranging and maneuvering their poke while delivering his own and to secure the finish once damage has been delt.

In team fights Greymane likes choke points and tight spaces, he can deliver a huge burst with coctail. And dive in to spam Razor swipes that have deceptively large aoe then after you have your escape jump out and throw another coctail and go back in for the kill; because of this, he synergizes well with Sylvanas who at 16 has cold embrace .
Greymane has great wave clear but should change to a Worgen to do so if you didn't take insatiable at 4. Worgen and razor swipe costs less Mana and he has better basic attack damage for things such as immortals and enemy camps.

Ability overview Top

Gilnean cocktail:

This is a tremendously strong talent if you take Incendiary elixir a level 7. though at 80 mana per use one must be mana conscious when using , at 16 pair with Inner beast you can instantly clear most waves at the cost of 150 mana or 23% of you mana pool. This talent is your main poke and gets most value on groups.

Inner Beast:

Inner beast doubles your attack speed from 1 aa per second to 2. The important thing to note is its long cool down of 16 seconds and its high mana cost of 70. With Wolfheart at 1 you can use stacks to refresh this cool down meaning attacking the small walls or just passively attacking small walls and minions while positioning in a team fight can boost value and reduce mana consumption. If you have a Greymane on your team don't kill the little walls.

Darkflight:

This is a tremendous gap closer lunging you at a target and dealing small amount of damage. While the damage it does by it self is negligible, you are transformed into a Worgen via your trait causing your auto attacks to deal 40% more damage. Worgen form is great if you have momentum, if you see some one a kill percent or if you need to clear a wave faster, Just be wary of stuns as you have little to escape with for 6 seconds after this ability's use.

Disengage:

disengage is just that , An escape for when you are in Worgen form. Only tip here is use it before you mount up, It has 0 mana cost and creates more space between you and the opponent.

Razor Swipe:

When in worgen form your Q becomes razor swipe, This talent has a 3 second cool down and a HUGE area of effect. The animation if you are a quick caster is less the half of its range. This abbiity lunges Greymane forward slightly and moves him past other characters which can help with body blocks and escapes.

Go for the throat:

has larger range then Darkflight and deals a large amount of damage. try to use this talent when they are low to get the kill ( each bubble in the HP bar is 250 hp the dark lines are every 4 bubbles and 1000 hp)

Marked for the kill:

this might help with ganking some one but I have not used it much

Talent overview Top

Level 1

[Good] Wolf heart is essentially the only talent you should be taking in this tier, a 16 second cool down on Inner beast is far too long for something that doubles your auto attack speed and thus damage, at level 20, which is far away, you can get tremendous value out of this talent when using Inner beast.

[Situational] Perfect aim can be considered if you are attempting to make a mage out of grey mane, Though through this build, this talent only really sees value after level 7 when you can get and then spikes at 16 via concentrated blast . though this build you get huge poke potential and rage at a safe distance, though mana is a huge issue early game.

Level 4

[good] Thick skin is a great talent against high damage auto attackers. Also, mid team fight most abilities are some where along their cool downs and you will primarily be getting hit by auto attack any way. If you take this talent be sure to bait out abilities and watch when others are used for maximum value.

[Good] The biggest issue with Greymane Is his Disengage cool down, which is 6 seconds after you dive in with Darkflight This talent helps you get clear of danger once your Disengage is ready. Also as the play style some times has you bouncing out to throw Gilnean Cocktails reposition and dive back in, This talent will help you position safely. Note: Some times if you are taking damage while in the disengage animation you will be instantly revealed.

[Situational] Greymane has huge mana issues early game, his abilites Innerbeast and Gilnean Cocktail Cost 70 and 80 mana respectively. If you use these on waves you will soon be uncomfortably low on resources. Though I do not recommend this talent as if you are unable to full back / conserve mana until you need it/ have a team that wont soft poke for 5 seconds until every one has arrived; you have bigger issues.

Level 7

Level Seven is the key talent tier one from the other team should be looking at to see what build Greymane is going.

Quick silver bullets Increases Greymane's Human auto attack range by 20%. Visually it is about one or grey manes body widths. What this means is it goes from 5.5 to 6.6. This is 0.1 further range then Raynor Raynor still will have more range on him though via his Advanced optics trait

Incendiary Elixir is my favorite talent at this tier, I feel it provides the most value for Greymane. You don't have to hit any thing for the aoe which essentially increases its effective range and use. Also it increases its single target damage.

Wizened duelist is basically gathering power , And with Greymane Who has few talents to keep him alive it can be a risky talent. Though if you manage to get 10 stacks, and even with 5, he will become a monster in Worgen form.

Level 10

[Good] Go for the throat:

has larger range then Darkflight and deals a large amount of damage. try to use this talent when they are low to get the kill.( each bubble in the HP bar is 250 hp the dark lines are every 4 bubbles and 1000 hp.)

Marked for the kill:

this might help with ganking some one but I have not used it much.

Level 13

[Situational] Visceral attacks deals a huge amount of aoe damage behind enemy lines as it lets you spam razor swipes this talent can also nudge you around more to give you a slight movement increase.

[Good] On the prowl if my talent of choice in this tier, Greymane if fragile and if he doesn't get the kill he is in huge trouble, this talent for three fold lets you position in human form, chase in Worgen form and greatly helps your escape. If it were not for any thing else, Just having 30% move speed for an escape on this character I feel is invaluable.

Level 16

[good] Concentrated blast is a great default option as long as you have incendiary elixir at level 7, at level 16 you deal a large instant burst aoe of 800+ damage and it can be activated as soon as you leave Worgen form, for Disengage resets your human cool downs. THis ability gives you huge poke into their back line.

[Situational] I think if Greymane is stunned he is squishy enough to the effect that he is probably pooched any way, But regardless in some situations this may be the best option.

[situational] if you have Arthas as a dive partner or even Jaina with Lingering chill this will body targets while you are in Worgen form.

[Good] Alpha killer is a tremendous and unique talent. Similarly to Giant killer it does Percent damage, Though it is effected by your trait it only works in Worgen form. Never the less, Against squishies such as Jaina it will do about 180 damage per second under the influence of Inner beast by it self. Now against tankier characters the value goes through the roof.

Level 20

Storm talents have always been a large spike in most characters, but never to this extent. (though I still wish for blink]

The first time I used this talent I shouted "ITS OP" , The poke delivered with this talent is unparalleled and always a respectable option.

I prefect this talent just because Worgen form does more AA damage, and paired with a Johanna the amount of effect this talent delivers is astounding.

Synergies Top

Greymane Is a fun character, he is like Valla who can turn into Zeratul. I would not say he is a god tier carry but provided a few conditions are met he can be a tier one assassin. He loves choke points and the opposing team to be in tight spaces, His aoe from gilnean cocktail, razor swipe and tooth and claw can all do a lot of bursty damage to the opposition. because of this he works well with Johanna who can group their back line together. Once they are together some one like Sylvanas after 16 with cold embrace will make their whole team vulnerable to your attacks.

Greymane like Zeratul is an executioner, once some on is low he easily can get the kill, paired with some one who can bring the target to low percents like Kael'thas or Jaina will allow greymane to shine. he is squishy when he dives in and has no real way to leave for 6 seconds until disengage is up, so a good diving partner like Johanna or Leoric even Arthas or tyreal is recommended.

Uther Is a good pick up, more to deny him for the enemy team then any thing, But Dsheild is very powerful with greymane. The Medic is also good, Lt. Morales can give you stim drone, peel people off you with her grenades and provides good heals so long as you are not too deep.
