How do I get lumber?

I wrote a previous guide about Cho, most of that guide, while a couple years old, still applies to cho'gall. I would recommend you reading it if you are interested in reading some important concepts that apply to cho'gall.

Cho'gall was patched... only making him stronger, pro teams are starting to pick him, high level players are starting to pick him. It is fun to see so many cho'gall games going on in ranked and that is why I felt it was necessary to revisit the cho'gall guide that I wrote before.

In this guide I will try to focus on the 3 builds I have learned from playing loads of games as Cho and Gall.
****If you want to learn how to play cho'gall at the highest level: Play gall a lot, play cho more, play against him, and watch how the pros play him.

I think the most important thing to learning how to play cho is playing gall. Find good cho players and watching how they play will make you a better cho player.

I have included 3 different builds that from playing with many different players in different situations have found to be successful in their own niche. I will try not to over explain each build as part of the learning process with cho'gall is self discovery. If you don't make your own mistakes those important opportunities to learn won't happen for you.

Furthermore each build is not a set in stone build. I think each one has its own unique play style that you will develop with practice. Also each build should be decided on by the 2 before the game starts.

Lastly I don't think this is the only 3 builds that are good with Cho'gall but there are the 3 I like to play. I enjoy playing the bomb build one the most because then the gall player feels good even though they are being carried XD

Main Tank Build (1) Top

The main tank build revolves around the idea that you will be in the thick of it for most of the game. If your team doesn't have a second tank and you have to main tank I would strongly suggest this build. The build has strong sustain and synergies with galls talents.

Again the gall talents can be changed mainly the 4 13 16. Being in the front and having twisting is great to slow those divers and keep the back line safe.

Cho talents can be changed to depending on who you are facing mainly the ult and lvl 1. If you are facing a team that likes to kite and never full engage get upheaval for big time explosions. The main idea for the build is have flame up on as many targets as possible and using faster attack at 13 to fight through the pain. Getting hide at 1 can be great too if you have the right healer otherwise get 150% heal on heroes.

With this build when you try to kill someone try to get a good chain stun with your cho or gall by dropping the orb that stuns--hammer stun push back-- into the second bounce stun = 2 sec stun

*in some games molten block will be better than unstoppable fist because they will have a massive chain and even gaining unstoppable won't stop all that dps.

Bomb Build (2) Top

Bomb build is my favorite because later in the game when gall has >75 stacks it will melt teams. Add ana nanoboosts and runic feedback = bowling for days with silence = f u money on cho'gall

This build has weaknesses, you will need time and skill to get those stack. You also will need someone else to soak the dps. I suggest getting roll back when you start trying this build and as you get better (gall) you won't need it as bad. Even with a good gall roll back can be huge and still a good pick.

This build will delete zerg waves but will reduce your ability to capture those points. Understand that trade off.

The play style with this build is to get gall's bomb stack as high as possible as fast as possible. Getting 20 stacks fast will allow you to snowball faster. So protect gall and your healer, play more defensive and time your bombs correctly.(the closer you are to the enemy the easier it is to get stack)

I like twisting with gall for this build because of the mind game that if they dive your team you have the massive aoe dps deterring teams from diving. I put hammer for this build because you will find yourself being dove still and to protect your healer and gall the hammer can create space and peel. Upheaval is amazing though with this build. Once the bomb starts getting out of control (lvl 16) teams will be spread out before engagement trying to not let you get 2 stacks on bomb rolls.

Goal with this build: roll the bomb backwards((towards your core))--fist in--Z with gall--upheaval--twisting--they land behind you--bomb comes back--they are deleted

*depending on the game gall shouldn't go will of gall but if you do and get nanoboosted you will do so much f u dps that teams will stay in their fountains if you haven't won yet. *last game we did this gall was at 160k, next dps in the game was at 54k....

Fist Build (3) Top

While the bomb build is my favorite this build is the most fun.

Here is how the build operates, once you get 16 you are now a raid boss.

because you are a raid boss forget the rest of your team, and over extend and force them to engage you. Time unstoppable fist correctly--gall z away-- fist and hit 2 of them--(fist will have no cd)--start fist again and run away--fist and hit 2 heros--flame--fist--run away--fist and hit 2 heros--gall z away--fist and run away--fist and hit 2 heros--flame--fist and run away--- ect.

because of how all the talents work you will be sweeping through the team and they can't do anything. They will hold stuns till you fist and hit them so you need to be ready to have gall z and you fist again or your toast. Once you practice this a little this build will make you so overconfident you will think you have f u money the next cho'gall game and make big mistakes.

this build when done correctly will allow you to fountain farm them at 16 solo vs 5 people.

downside to this build and why the downside is part of the reason I will pick this build. galls overall dps will be reduced, most of the game you will have ogre hide on because you are doing all this fisting. Once you start doing the sweeping fist thing fitting the bomb roll into the whole combo will be your undoing because they are holding those stuns. The cast animation on bomb will destroy you. Because you can't bomb as often it is important that gall picks up talents he can you while you are sliding in and out.
The reason why I will pick this build is to have fun in qm or if I am playing with a noob gall.
I will only play this build in League if they go 2 tanks and melee assassin.

Ana (Secret Tech) Top

Following Ana release Cho'Gall has reached new heights. As I stated before Ana will allow you to get to that F U money Dps Lvl.

I have not played Ana (busy playing cho) but my pwntbrah420 buddy plays her when we cho'gall TL.

Here are some of his advice for Ana players serving their great lord Cho'Gall

-Cho'Gall is always right
-Dying for Cho'Gall is the greatest gift we can provide to our great Lord and Savior
-Only heal Cho'Gall, the other players are just fodder anyways

Okay he didn't actually say that so here are his points

-Once they see how great Cho'Gall is they will spread out in a semi-circle and all try to converge on me the healer
-Cho'Gall's overconfidence will lead him to forgetting to peel for us, don't miss with the sleep
-know your bushes and places to kite with
-hitting sleep will help gall get bomb stacks
-coordinating sleep with cho'gall will allow us to delete people
-sometimes the best way to avoid damage is to stay close to it... sometimes its a good idea to follow cho'gall into the thick of it so he can help peel
-3rd talent depends on if they have more aa or mages
-20 talent can be 1 or 4 with cho'gall
-Cho'Gall has a huge hit box so healing him is easier
-Timing of nanoboost can win games

Closing Top

Again each build is not set in stone, depending on the map and team comps you might want to change one or two talents. There are core talent picks for each build and changing those will drastically change the play style.

There are also talents that you may never want to pick up and you will learn over time which ones those are. Don't get stuck into a build order before the game, make a decision on the build after seeing your and your enemies team.

A cool side thing about playing cho'gall with someone is that over time you won't need to talk as much because you know what each one of you is thinking.

Side notes Top

-A dead dps is 0 dps
-a master has failed more times than an apprentice has tried
-if we learn how to be successful through failure, we should see failure as success as long as we don't let our emotions deny ourselves the opportunity to learn.
-"I don't know how to!" -> "Learn to"
-before you learned how to run you fell on your face trying to learn how to walk, don't let toxic players ruin the learning process, (also if your new play qm first)
-you will be blamed for every game "good cho'gall guys" ... "this cho'gal F***ing blows"

Good Luck and Have Fun in the Nexus
