Introduction Top

This guide is for 2 specific heroes who work insanely well with each other; Abathur and Samuro.

The global pressure those two heroes can put on the map is tremendeous, as well as the burst output they can apply on a target, while being able to survive!

Abathur is a specialist, in the way that he is a very different hero from others. He will help Samuro by giving him health regen, vision and more.

Samuro is classified as an Assassin because of the damage he can deal, but is more of a specialist if played the way he should. He will help Abathur with his body and the pressure he puts on structures, creating a big distraction for the team, and allowing the zerg to bodysoak more efficiently.

Talents (and synergies) Top

Level 1
Way of Illusion is picked up to increase your basic damage.
Way of the Blade gives you more direct damage, but way less than the quest.
Way of the Wind can be picked up if you feel you need more mobility and cannot hit people enough to stack your quest.
Regenerative Microbes gives healing to your shields. Nothing can compare to it.

Level 4
Mirage grants you Spell Armor which is the main source of damage you have to deal with.
One With The Wind give you armor at the cost of engaging with your main escape option...
Deflection is a decent pickup if the enemy team is relying a lot on Auto-Attackers.
Sustained Carapace makes your shields bigger, and last even if you quit your host. Synergises with your lvl 1, nothing esle needs to be picked up!

Level 7
Burning Blade empowers your criticals and grants you waveclear.
Phantom Pain empowers your criticals drastically when you have active illusions. More burst, less utility.
Crushing Blows is a dead talent. Without the other talents, your criticals won't do much anyway.
Calldown: MULE is usually the best talent as you can repair structures and be more safe with your main body.
Needlespine can be good for additional burst.

Level 10
Bladestorm is garbage. It gives you pretty much nothing except a self cleanse and a little burst that makes your location obvious.
Illusion Master is the only viable ultimate for Samuro (unless you play at lower levels). This is what makes Samuro a terrifying specialist.
Ultimate Evolution is the only viable ultimate for Abathur! Also, Samuro is an incredible copy target, and together they can snipe a Fort/Keep safely with guarantee!
Evolve Monstrosity is not viable (unless at lower levels) since people take it down quickly.

Level 13

Mirrored Steel increases your survivability in teamfights by making your illusions almost permanent.
Kawarimi makes your illusion management hell, and is not very useful since the number of your illusions is limited to 2.
Shukuchi grants you a little teleport that can be used as an escape or a gap-closer. Pick this talent over all if you don't need to stay in extended teamfights.
Soma Transference grants your diver more survivability in teamfights, which makes it the go to pick.

Level 16

Merciless Strikes makes all your basic attacks Critical Strikes on disabled targets. Usually not a pickup, it's awesome here because...
Envenomed Spikes slows the enemies movement speed and grants the bonus damage Samuro needs.

The other talents are quite good, but the extreme synergy between the two heroes makes those pickups a must when working together!

Level 20
Three Blade Style is just the pickup for Samuro at lvl 20. The others are good, but this one is superior.
Hivemind is amazing in almost any cases, inceasing your healing on your team and the slow area on the enemy team as well.
Evolutionary Link is a good pickup if you need to teamfight a lot and the enemy is good at locking a target down (usually the one diving).

Several tips Top

To stack your quest with Samuro, use your illusions towards the enemy (so you teleport away from them) and let them attack. You can also use your activable critical to get more.

As an Abathur, you only need to stay on Samuro's Head to finish up a target, or before lvl 4 to keep the healing going. After lvl 4, put a shield, use your abilities once, and get out!
The cooldown of your symbiote is lower than that of your shield, making going in and out the most efficient way to heal people.
This also gives you time to place mines to acquire vision on the map, and to reposition your body if needed.

As a Samuro, your job is to soak xp, push the lanes, roam between lanes to gank people, and take camps (with proper timing, not just anytime).

After lvl 10, if your team is losing an objective, give it up and start pushing, with the Abathur copy if possible.

When bodysoaking as Abathur, try to be in a safe spot and keep vision on the routes that can lead to you. The range of your soaking if about half the screen.

If your team doesn't need you anywhere, you can soak using the symbiote as well. Put it on a minion that is in the backline so it doesn't get killed straight away.

As Samuro, you can burst someone down with your criticals, which is why you want to keep your critical up before engaging, then use it twice in a row by pressing your activable critical.

If Abathur's lane is getting pushed, it's your job to depush it, as you're a good solo laner and you might have taken the waveclear talent for this.
